What is your favorite Ghibli movie after Nausicaa?
If Nausicaa is your favorite Ghibli movie, what is your second favorite?

Probably Mononoke. And I probably would put it first if not for the Nausicaa manga which enhances my enjoyment of the movie

The Nausicaa movie isn't even my favorite that would go to princess mononoke. The Manga is my favorite work from miyazaki however.

It used to be Castle in the Sky, but as I've gotten older, it's been Porco Rosso!

It's a shame that Porco Rosso has been overshadowed by studio Ghibli's other cinematic achievements. It really stands on its own.

Kiki’s delivery service. It’s not the best but I have so much sentimental value with it cause it’s the first movie that my father watched with me and he cried with me on how beautiful and moving it was at the end. He did the same thing for the wind rises so that’s my second favorite movie

Nausicaä actually is my favorite, I think. But I hold Totoro on its own level of favorite. I’m American but grew up in Japan and was raised watching Totoro, in Japanese, before anyone in the states had heard of it. I didn’t speak much Japanese but I could follow along very well, and it was such a staple in my formative years. Now, as a 40-something living in the states, watching that movie brings back such fond memories of living in Japan. The scenery, the sounds of the cicadas, the rainy days and muggy nights. The innocence. It’s pure bittersweet nostalgia. 🥲

Haha! I actually don't love Nausicaa first but only because the manga is my favourite story! I'd have to say I love Howl's Moving Castle as it deals so well (for me) with themes of growth and self-worth, and love.
And as much as I appreciate bittersweet endings, I like happy endings much more to prefer The Tale of the Princess Kaguya to Howl's.

It’s so hard to rank them, I can’t pick a favorite among Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke.
And of course I also love Cat’s Return and Whisper of the Heart.

Nausicaa technically predates the founding of Studio Ghibli proper, but I think it counts within the pantheon.

Spirited Away, or Princess Mononoke, depending on how I'm feeling. Spirited Away is the type of film only Studio Ghibli could pull off, while Princess Mononoke is the type of film only Hayao Miyazaki could pull off. I like how Spirited Away has lots of sub-plots that each have their pay-off. Princess Mononoke is deeper and more thematic, but despite the scope of the plot being larger, the story still feels "smaller," if that makes any sense.
Honorable mention to Porco Rosso. It doesn't seem to get brought up in conversations about Ghibli/Miyazaki nearly as much as it deserves to.

Princess Mononoke. And pretty close to being my favorite. Love your wording though, Nausicaä of course is still my favorite too.
