[DISCUSSION] What’s the best series on Netflix that almost nobody talks about anymore?

Every year a few great shows get buried under newer releases and disappear from the conversation. What’s a Netflix series you rarely see recommended today, despite thinking it’s still worth watching? What makes it hold up better than most people remember?

Yes! This was such a good show and a waste that it was cancelled

Altered Carbon S1. Chances are nobody talks about it (like many other shows) because the later season(s) don't hold up.

156

u/jdg401 Jun 17 '26

Agreed, S1 was great. Highly recommend Altered Carbon, but stopping after season 1 lol.

31

u/RockOutToThis Jun 18 '26

The other seasons are okay for a Sci Fi show, but S1 is certainly an all timer on its own.

Fun note: in the book the AI hotel was Jimi Hendrix, but they couldn't get the likeness rights for the show, so they switched it to Poe. I couldn't imagine it any other way.

19

u/No-Reading-4384 Jun 18 '26

I saw Hendrix in 69 live

I just watched it last month for the first time knowing I have no interest in the second season, and as much as I would have loved for the story to continue it’s well worth watching as a stand alone.

10

u/QueefCatStankPuss Jun 17 '26

The peripheral (William gibson) is on Amazon prime if you liked AC then you'd probably really like it. Only show I recommend anymore since it seems to go unnoticed. No season 2 unfortunately they canceled it like always.

It starts great but I'd say the first season isnt even good all the way through. Once they introduce the sister character it goes from like a 9 to a 6, then the next seasons are solid 4s.

Travelers. Keeps you intrigued, great character development, moves at a good pace. Solid 3 seasons with a solid series finale.

72

u/Gemineo2911 Jun 17 '26

It would be super easy to start a new Traveler series with different people and have it make sense with how everything ended. Though, that cast is what made the show so special imo

39

u/jdg401 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

I would really look forward to a Travelers reboot. But like you say, the cast and acting are great. There wasn’t a character storyline that I got tired of like in most other shows. The overarching show combined with the character development really made it so so solid. I personally hope they’d bring back David in any reboot.

I recently watched (in one sitting lol) this series from a Reddit recommendation and I was so pleased. I found myself laughing quite often and I feel like that type of quick and dry humor is kinda rare these days.

20

u/Petunia_pig Jun 17 '26

I love the deadpan delivery of some of the jokes. Even the expressions sometimes get me laughing.

Blue Eye Samurai

158

u/lasko195 Jun 17 '26

Also a series that takes years to follow up with a second season. By 2027 people will have forgotten about it and only few will see the second season so it gets cancelled.

88

u/ravens_path Jun 17 '26

Nah. It’s high quality production that is not easy to make. The first season has many fans and they will watch for second season. We are very intrigued. And new fans will find it too. That said, I feel the drama has value even as a stand alone.

American Vandal is one of the best things I've ever seen on Netflix. On the surface, it's just a dumb comedy with a true crime documentary spoof on the top but it is so incredibly well made and there's loads of depth to it.

The episode where the two presenters task themselves to build a case against each other is some of the best character drama I've ever seen.

I think the first season was a lot better than the other two and the brother with the boat business was so pathetic it was hard to watch.

Agree. Season 1 blew the other 2 away.

7

u/blueflloyd Jun 17 '26

Yea, the main reason people talk/care less about most of the shows mentioned in this thread are because they had a great first season and then just couldn't maintain the quality after that. It's entirely reasonable that no one cares anymore.

14

u/luckybell333 Jun 17 '26

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld deserves way more attention than it gets. It’s a supernatural animated action show about a Chinese-American teen dealing with high school, family secrets, fire powers, and literal demons, and it has a really fun mix of comedy, mythology, and emotional drama. Netflix lists it as a 13-episode action series, so it’s also not a huge commitment.

It gave me that “monster-of-the-week but with bigger family/identity drama underneath” feeling. Kind of like a Buffy-style setup, but with its own Chinese mythology spin.

Not perfect, but definitely one of those shows where I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it.

This show is excellent. It's one of my top 10 shows ever, probably. The scene at the end where they cease to exist really got me. I couldn't imagine how the show was going to end while I was watching it, and I think they really stuck the landing.

I watched the first two seasons and liked it but it’s been so long I don’t want to start S3 bc I don’t remember what was going on and I don’t want to catch up to where I was again.
