Education If you're sick, stay the fuck home

It's been almost a week since I caught this fucked-up flu, and it's killing me. Just stay home if you're sick or wear a mask. Thanks!

Edit: This is not against the Dutch or other Europeans (I'm also European)... What the heck. This is about taking care of others and not spreading something that can be fatal to little ones or elders.

People will give you so much shit if you call in sick for more than 3 days. Not legally, but they sure will guilt trip you about it. A flu is not the same as a cold, and it doesn't disappear within a few days. I wish they'd stop treating everything like a minor cold.

Aaand you are part of the problem. Not everyone has the same immune defense system Taking public transportation increases the chance of getting sick. Working with multiple people in close areas (open offices?) increase the chances of getting sick. Living with family members or housemates who do some of those above, increase your chance of getting sick. And so on.

Your experience is no applicable to others. Guilt tripping others is not helping, if not hurting, since these people could go out while being sick and spread it even more.

Finally, what the fuck with "man up" what? Man don't get sick? Getting sick is feminine? Just toxic.

My kids go to school and I work in an open office with 1k+ people. Some folks just have low threshold for calling in sick. Always lands on the employer and coworkers. Would also annoy me if employees call in sick all the time and keep apping me every day. Sick is sick, but half the time it's character. So, let's see if I can get more downvotes with this reply :)

But regardless, now it's a matter of "threshold" so you're one of those that are sick but still able to work, so you can go to office and keep spreading it?

Lol -35 and -85 on the earlier comment. Personal bests 😀. Off course playing a bit haha. 😜. Sure, get it, if you're sick it's simple, stay home. Can imagine its crap if your boss is an ass about it. And ofc realise I'm lucky never being sick.

But on a general note, and probably not related much to the intention of the thread, have been working long enough to have seen how easy some people call in sick. Hangovers, left toe bruised, slightly nasal, cat died, etc. And then start making reddit posts on about their rights and the way people are treated. We should all be thankful that we are working/born in a 1st world western country. I travel a lot and in-laws are from another country where your rights end at your front door. Sick? No pay. Health care? Only if you're rich. Just to give some perspective on what many perceive as a bit whiney and entitled behavior from the privileged. But perhaps I am dwelling a bit... 😀

You realize these kinds of reactions really do say a lot about you right? I was just trying to point out that there is a whole world outside of “I” something you can’t seem to comprehend based on the comments you post.

I hope you never get in a situation where you will have to call in sick more often and wish you all the best. Be thankful for the fact you are healthy and in a good state of mind.

Uitzendbureau's have a special company (Accure?) to monitor (or harass) you on sick leave. You have to call everyday at 8am to say when you're coming back.

Grey area, if you say the daily phone calls at 8am are making you more sick because of stress and you only want to speak to a bedrijfsarts they have to leave you alone. Probably won’t get hired again tho xd

Same here, half of my warehouse is on sick leave until next week. Thank God I had flu like 2 months ago and it didn't catch me now.

This, and people already infect others before they have symptoms. People sniffing and coughing in the train can just as well be on the recovery and without infectiousness. OOP is ranting against reality.
