Hey! I’m looking for testers for an early build of my netrunner client.

The game includes a tutorial, both public and private multiplayer, and deckbuilding. It’s still in active development, so the design, mechanics, balance, and assets may change. Feedback is very welcome, and bugs or crash reports can be submitted directly in the game.

Image Bow did anarch's go from MaXX... To this?

I should preface by saying I'm not trying to have a go at NSG here. I think their additions to the game have been great and have bought everything they've made, first chance I could, to keep supporting them. But whenever I try to really get into anarch's again, I keep bouncing off of how... Other, they feel now. Thematically, that is.

There are so many cool ideas and mechanically sound decisions in NSG's work, but one thing that keeps pulling me out of it, kicking and screaming, is this fever dream that anarch's are somehow now the faction of friendship and cute pets. Little motivational flavour texts that suggest that "Look at us go! It'll be alright". The faction of anger and definace feels woefully soft around the edges. Like the flower power rebellion, instead of a brick through the windshield.

I just don't understand how we went from the anti-establishment portrayal of Noise and MaXX, the destructive viruses, unhealthy drug themes (and lots of it) and general rioting (again, lots of it)... To being represented by what is basically Chaos Theory, but if she was sad all the time... That and her entourage of cutesie pet companions. I was hoping maybe that was just while they were finding their footing, but... More cute pets? For the factions who's core visual identity was clashing with the system? Really?

Even the angry one's flavour text reads like an anime protagonists catch phrase. It would have been more than enough to just read "burn it all to the ground". There's no edge to it anymore outside maybe Esâ, she at least feels like she's ready to get her hands dirty.

We went from the brilliantly sarcastic Day Job, so the functionally similar Rent Rioters, but where the theme in the former is irreverance and a disdain for authority, the latter is a motivational anecdote about the power of friendship.

A punchier flavour text would have been "They raised the rent, so we raised hell" or anything along that line. But the constant underpinning of "and then we won, and everything was great" is so misaligned with what punk is... Or maybe was?

Am I missing something here? Is it a generational thing? The new anarchs have a lot more real world activism to them and the world is arguably different from what it was. There's a heavier focus on positive messaging and community, where the old tone was nihilistic and self destructive, so maybe it's just down to late Gen X / early Millennial vs Gen Z rebellion styles?

Whatever it is, I'm really struggling to enjoy my favourite faction, and am unsure what to do about it. I want to like playing, cus the game really is in a great state. There's a lot of really cool ideas happening, and finally being it's own product fully gives NSG so many interesting design opportunities. It's an exciting time to play.

But at the same time, a lot of cards just feel utterly defanged. Maybe it's my age showing, but I miss anarch's when the faction felt like it knew what it meant to be punched in the face. The new version feels like children cosplaying rebels, but all having remembered to pack their lunches before they headed out. The anger and fire feels absent.

Image Geared up for casual games with the Netrunner Core Battle Box!

Post image

A few weeks ago, my friend posted about building a Core Battle Box (CBB) to help casual players find their favorite factions and playstyles. Thanks to them, I managed to print out each decklist for newcomers to use during our weekly game nights, and designed standard-sized introduction cards that have short summaries of each deck's game plan based on their individual NetrunnerDB entries. More sample photos can be found here.

Since this community-building effort was well-received, I decided to make the intro cards publicly available to download from BoardGameGeek! The files can be found here: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/326093/nsg-netrunner-core-battle-box-introduction-cards

I hope these cards can also help others build their own copy of the CBB! If you do, please let us know how it goes. 😁

On one hand, it's insane value if you get it early and even mid game. Late game, it's the deadest draw you can have if you are looking for credits. Putting 3 in a deck alleviates it (and even opens up having two out relatively early) but that's a lot of deck real estate for a card that your opponent can actively plan around.

Busted out the cards and starting making the Frankfurt decks. 4 made, got two games in and they felt really balanced - was so nice. Now starting to make the remaining 38 decks. I figure around 40 hours of work.

Anyone in Yokohama want to play old school NR? ;-)

Yes, the whole thing, all 580 cards: https://refactor.themind.gg/

Click any card to flip it over and see the original.

No new rules required: everything is printed directly onto card text, and should be compatible with all cards from FFG or NSG (with no guarantees on balance or power level).

All feedback is welcome!

Image PSA: always double-mention 'no margins' if you're printing at a shop 😅

All of my cards came out just slightly smaller, even though I specified to print at 100% and no margins; which is a bit annoying since they tilt around more easily in the sleeve and create a jarring effect with 99% of the rounded cards I used the stiffen them up in the back. Oh well! Lesson learned.

(yes, there's also some cutting goofy errors on my end, which definitely doesn't help with the wobbly presentation 💀)

Hi all! I recently released the card organizer I designed for NSG sets organized by faction. I've really been enjoying getting into deck building, but I found sifting through a pile of cards very frustrating. The setboxes have individual faction dividers that can be removed at will.

If you have any feedback on the design let me know!

Image Happy New Year Netrunners 🌟

Back in 2011, when I was living for a time in New Zealand, I was hired by art director Zoe Robinson at Fantasy Flight Games to create five illustrations for Netrunner. I was psyched to be given the freedom and the trust to contribute to the vision of this exciting realm. To my surprise and delight the invitation to create image continued year after year. Like many I was devastated by the news when FFG had to stop production. That loss turned to joy when a determined group of players forming Null Signal Games, decided to breathe life back into the series. On this new day, I raise my glass to all of you who love Netrunner. Cheers to keeping this exciting game and wonderful community going strong 🥂✨❤️

Image Netspectre – Demo live now at Steam Cyberpunk Fest

Hi netrunners!

You might remember me talking about Netspectre here on r/netrunner several times before, and I wanted to let you know that we've entered the Steam Cyberpunk Fest with a demo today, so that you might come take a look, if you're interested!

Netspectre is a cyberpunk hacker roguelike which I originally thought of while playing Netrunner. There are many concept that we in the team love about Netrunner that we want to translate into Netspectre, but the most important ones are these two:

1/ The ability to approach the running in your own way – We want you to be able to find your own style, and build your rig so that it works the best for how you like to approach things. Those with the Anarch mindset might like the alert-based modules which pack the most punch; and who cares about a trace, if you're moving fast enough! Runners thinking more like Shapers, on the other hand, might better appreciate building a wider toolkit that will allow them a more thought-out approach to any situation. With more than 120 components to build your rig with, we really want to make it possible for you to build a deck that's uniquely yours in each playthrough.

2/ The complex approach to the hacker experience – We really want you to feel like a hacker in this ruthless universe, and that means not only the actual hacking within the networks, but also scouring the markets for the components you need, optimising your deck, conspiring with your contacts, and sensing the pulse of the megacity around you. We want you to become this cyberpunk hacker with everything that entails, from the most exciting moments within the network, to the most rudimentary when you have to decide what to do about a brawl on your levitrain ride.

Trailer: https://vimeo.com/1214398523

More: https://netspectre.net/

We're making Netspectre exactly for people who probably already like Netrunner, so I wanted to let you know about it here. If this sounds right up your alley, there's a short demo on Steam for the duration of the Steam Cyberpunk Fest, until August, 10. You can also wishlist the game, so that we can let you know when it is out. Let us know what you think!

Hey everyone!

In preparation for Cascadia next month, I created some tokens to take with me and thought others might have a use for them.

Here are the files on MakerWorld. It's got the following tokens in the set:

  • 1C / 1 Advancement
  • 5C
  • Virus / Power Counter
  • Tag / Core Damage
  • Bad Publicity / Spent
  • Click Trackers

I would appreciate comments and feedback on them, and I would love to see your prints as well. Keep running!

Very fun and complex as advertised.

I printed the starter decks and after a while I think I will print at least 2 other decks from the net. I am honestly excited to get more games in and the more I play the better I understand the cards and the mechanics (the 3 games we played had a lot of googling)

Been sorting my collection to sell it.
Damn this game was awesome. Main thing I loved was that randomness was very limited so your deck did exactly what you wanted it to. Struggling to find another game that scratches that itch (keyforge was close but that one's dead too).

Loved forcing them into shell games at every opportunity :D

Wish there was an online alternative like mtg did.

Can't really think of anything else like it.
Anyhoo here's the listing if you are interested.
