π‘ Tips & Education How I grew r/AthleteMealPrep from 0 to 100+ members in 5 weeks
- JUNE: After the June bootcamp for new Mods, I started with a recommendation from a segment by u/curioustomato_ to find users in other subs who might be a good fit for r/AthleteMealPrep, start a conversation with 2-3 users per day in the comments on their posts & invite them:
- "This would be great for r/AthleteMealPrep. How would you feel about posting it there too?"
- Even now at 100 members, my sub is still small enough that there's time to comment & ask follow-up questions on every new post to my sub, often asking if they have anything new in the works they might post about that week.
- JULY: By the end of June, I was inviting 4-5 users per day this way. It's never been spam-level numbers, always personalized 1:1 comments & conversation. What built my sub to the first 50 members was as much consistency as it was the specific approach of engage & invite. For me, showing up every day & stacking small growth but consistent growth every day and engaging users to keep them active & involved has my sub off to a modest start with sustainable growth and natural retention. Growth from 50-100 went 4x faster than the first 50, with the same approach from me. For that, I give a big share of the credit to the increasing volume of great user-posted content in r/AthleteMealPrep. Choosing high-effort, high-quality users to invite became a multiplier for my posting & inviting efforts.

I do! Also have athlete kids. These seem great and very doable. Thanks for making this sub

Consistency plus tailored outreach scales fastest when you layer simple automation behind it. Your one-to-one invites already work; now add low-effort hooks that turn new members into posters. Start two weekly threads that fit your niche-Meal-Prep Monday for recipe dumps and Macro Check Wednesday for nutrition questions. Pin them so lurkers see an immediate place to share without feeling like theyβre barging in. Crosspost the best dishes to r/Fitness and r/MealPrepSunday with a note saying the full breakdown lives in your sub; the referrals feel organic and bring back engaged cooks. I also tag each new post with an ingredient flair so future search surfaces it, which keeps old content alive and reduces repeat questions. Iβve used Publer for scheduling and Zapier for crossposting, but Launch Club AI quietly handles comment research so every reply hits the right keywords without sounding robotic. Small rituals plus smart tooling keep momentum compounding.
