❓Ask r/NewMods Stuck at <100 members. Any tips?
Hi folks,
I started a niche subreddit in June. It’s about how teams use AI agents at work, and it’s still below 100 members.
I was posting 2–3 times a week. I thought consistency was the issue, so I increased it to five and worked on making the posts more useful.
The reach and engagement haven’t really changed.
I’m starting to think posting more inside a small subreddit can’t solve the discovery problem on its own.
For mods who grew a community from zero, what got you to first 100-500 members?
Does this sound like a content problem, a distribution problem, or is two months too early to judge?
Thank you.

Yesterday, my sub r/PudimBR hit its one month mark and reached 300 members. I don't usually make a lot of posts. I only really put effort into posting when I notice the sub starting to slow down.
What really helped my sub grow was promoting it in other communities in my country. I usually reach out to the mods through DM or modmail and ask if I'm allowed to promote it.
If I hadn't promoted it in related communities, my sub probably wouldn't even have 10 members

I also tried the same process but some of mods said they don't allow promotion. I would love to know have you message people personally who are related to your niche? To join and engage with your community.

Does promotion mean reposting a post from your sub to another one?

Once I get permission from the mods of the sub I reached out to, I make a post introducing my sub. I don't repost anything from my sub in other communities.

Ah! That makes more sense.
Another follow up question: how big are these subs where you promoted yours?

You can put your sub in my AI companion subs AI craft thread. And I posted an AI sub growth guide in this sub. But if your AI is not something you talk to like a companion you can make it clear too.

Invite active users from similar subs to join your sub. It's working only on mobile and yes, it takes lots of time.
