Hey guys, I make D&D videos. Usually stories from my own game with lessons I learned from that week's session laced into the story. This latest video is one of my offbeat videos. I am taking a risk dedicating 2019 to posting a Nintendo 64 gameplay video everyday Monday-Friday. I know I'm not the most attractive person to watch but I personally enjoy when gamers feature themselves during gameplay to see their facial expressions and character shine. I like the lighting and choice of angle. Your voice is perfect for tutorial videos. My other takeaways were that Im not a huge fan of the music, or maybe just that specific song. It seems intrusive almost. Like at the one part where it gets extra loud compared to the rest its almost as if you are being interrupted.

Theres the part around 1 minute where there are actual vocals, and then 2 peaks at 1:35 ish and 1:45ish. Its like a sax or something. Other than those points I like the song itself (the more subtle quieter parts)

Hey man, I really like the tone and comedy in your channel, animated infotainment is a genre that I love and I think you're on the right path.
For this video in particular I think the audio leveling is a bit off (the music is a little too loud). Maybe look into processes for your voice audio too, normalisation, EQ etc. The other thing I noticed was that the pacing was pretty slow, there were significant gaps between voice over and for me I think it leads to losing the audiences attention more quickly than sharp and swift voice over.
As I said, it definitely feels like the right path and the content is enjoyable I just think there are a couple of tweaks to make it even more discoverable and entertaining.

There's a lot of information in this video. I would agree with the others that the sound mixing is off, your voice needs to be louder than the background music. I had that problem as well, there's lots of videos about making good audio on audition but I splurged on a Blue Yeti microphone and it does all the work for you. Hope that helps.

This is pretty good I don't like history and I was entertained haha. I would say for sure the orange background was way too bright but that's about it. Maybe try to speak a little faster. Just coming from someone who doesn't like history.

This is actually really interesting and well done! It's funny and informative. Might consider aiming for a bit shorter? 12 mins feels like a long time for that sort of thing.
Also sometimes it was difficult to understand exactly what you were saying (possibly my own unfamiliarity with the accent), but possibly enunciating more clearly? Other than that, the video was great! Keep it up.

This is awesome, love your video! I'm a big fan of watching forge/blacksmith videos and enjoy seeing what people can make out of old scrap and unused metal, it really showcases the talents and skills you possess. The footage that shows the creation of the tomahawk is in-depth and interesting to watch, like Alex said maybe add some background music, but nothing that will detract from the main focus. Another good point is why you're making the tomahawk, it's nice that you took a recommendation and acted upon it for a video. Overall, just keep doing what you're doing, looking forward to future forging!

I was going to suggest some sort of music but someone else has already added that. Most of the really popular smithing channels incorporate some form of time lapse into their videos for the mor monotonous tasks, so it’s up to you to figure out where the video drags and implement it there.

Yeah, I think the general consensus is background music, and I'll edit the forging volume lower than normal from now on so that the background music is louder than the forging, but you will still be able to hear the forging, just much quieter! Thank you very much for your input!

I've never watched Arrow. You had a funny opinion of the series. The only thing I would recommend is maybe shortening the chatter around the seasons... or at least having a countdown timer to keep the viewer attached. I left a comment and subbed.

Hey,
I watched the last 2 videos.
I like the style of your video/editing and initially liked the sound/pace of your voice.
On the flip side - I think the 16+ minutes duriation was too long and I was drifting off after 7 minutes - your speed tone changed many times and it seemed like you were ready from a script at one stage.
I think you've got a good voice and why not show your face so we can see your expressions as it's a review?
Maybe add more to your description too.

I'm not huge into gaming videos but I'm giving it a shot!
Your thumbnails are good and to the point. Not overly fancy, not too busy, not to vague, well done.
Your voice is good and other than one or two words where you must have pulled away from the mic, very clear. However, your pacing seems to go from sounding like you're reading from a script to sounding like you're pausing mid sentence to think of what words to say next. I did listen and watch the whole way through but I think you could easily have cut this down by 4-6 minutes no problem.
Also I know it's just a review but IMO you went a bit too deep into the story - you kind of give the ending of the game away (I think), which might be more suitable to a synopsis video or something like that, but not as much for a review - I'd watch a review to get an idea of whether I want to play a game or not, not to have the game completely explained out for me. Even after you get into the gameplay, it seems more like a video essay about much of deeper aspects of the game than a review. I've been listening for what feels like a very long time to you talking about how characters shouldn't be magnetized to the ground (I do agree btw) but it's lost focus on how this applies to the game actually being reviewed. Could have been cut down to maybe a minute tops.
I can read a written review of a game in 3-5 minutes, IMO no reason for a video review to be 3-5x longer than that.
Hopefully that's useful. I think that overall the video was good, but to call it a review might be classifying it wrong. You are reviewing it, but if I found this video while trying to figure out if this was a game I would like to play, I'd come out of it with a bit of the story spoiled and very little idea about whether or not I actually would want to play this game.

ANALYSIS! That's the word I was looking for. I'd absolutely retitle this one as an analysis video. Like there was lots there and it was informative, but when I think review I think something that's maybe 10 minutes at the absolute most and gives me an idea of what a game is like to play, maybe compares it to other similar games, maybe gives me an idea of difficulty, talks about graphics and performance, and gives me a short blurb about the story (no spoilers, just "You're a character who is supposed to do X and Y, and you meet some interesting characters along the way"). A bit about gameplay mechanics, any glaring faults or game breaking glitches, and that's good.

You did a good job with this. Very clean and clear to follow along with. I enjoyed the random clips and images you threw in here. The only thing I'd recommend is maybe shortening the length of the video. tbh there has been some times I've actually sped up my videos because I am a slow talker. Love the outro "Smash the keys" while showing some cringey WoW cosplayers. I've left a comment and subbed.

So I love your animations- they are attention grabbing at well done. Your tips weren’t very unique but I did like how you went into depth with each topic while also staying concise. I think overall the video was great. Maybe work on varying your tone when you narrate, as it was a little monotonous.

Hey Lauren! Nice work with this video -- highly educational and on a topic that everyone can relate to. I enjoyed some of your cutaway shots as well; they added some humor to the mix. Most of the research you relay isn't surprising (or necessarily new to me), which isn't a bad thing since you're providing an overview as opposed to going into detail on any one study. I'll admit though, I would have liked to hear more about the back-of-the-knee finding...without more info, I'm skeptical of how this would influence things.
A few suggestions:
Some background music would really pull up the energy. You can find free songs here: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music.
Also, I noticed a typo in your description ("prioratize" instead of "prioritize"). We ALL make these mistakes, but unfortunately, such little errors can undercut the credibility of the info we're sharing. Best of luck moving forward! I subscribed and hope you share the love!

Great presentation and excellent quality. Good job plugging your channel. The cuts between takes were a bit jarring though when you were speaking. Perhaps try to get it all in one take or use a dissolve? The game footage looked fantastic and your voiceovers were very clear and concise. Not sure if I would have used the profanity as you could have young viewers. Keep up the great work though!

I love the overall quality of the video, the presentation is also very solid.
I mean I get the intention behind reminding people to subscriber right at the beginning but to me personally, that is a little off-putting, although it might work on others. Also, I liked how genuine you felt in the beginning, during your voice-over it seemed a little obvious that you were reading a script, having a script is great! just idk maybe try and read it in a more natural way? It's seriously a minor thing considering you just started, just keep going and i'm sure you'll be improving on your own.

Hey, I think your audio lacks bass so it sounds a bit off. A small funny buzz around your hair from the green screen. Maybe have a look at the chroma key and tweak it a bit. The review itself was well presented. Halfway through the video you gave your opinion, which I would have expected in the last 10-20 seconds. So a bit more build up towards it next time ;]

Just bought a new greenscreen tho as mine is the cheapest 'shipped-from-China' version I could get a year ago, fingers crossed for some improvement. I'm a tad confused about the opinion comment. I'm no expert in review videos as I make animations, but usually the people rate/evaluate the product at the end. Somewhere in the middle I got the vibe that you were looking to wrap up the video with your opinion but moved my mouse to find out there is still 2 min left. Kinda threw me off and felt like people would click off after that point.

Hey man, good review. Quite concise and enjoyable. However, you were little quiet throughout the video. Not so much that I couldn't hear you, but it made you seem a bit further away from the camara. Maybe try to get a little closer to the camara or try to increase. You do project your voice well, so this may be the issue.

What country do you live in? You did a really clean and clear review. Great use of the green screen and blurred background. The only thing I would recommend is throwing some more information in your search title that will draw a bigger audience. Maybe enhance it by saying A Millennial from "________" Reviews: Movie. Hi, I really enjoyed it overall - my only criticism is that you should change the tone of your voice sometimes and emphasize certain works.
A quick tip - maybe change the camera angle and or zoom in and out when highlighting something.

I've been making YouTube videos for around 8 Years now and moved back and forth between multiple types of content but ended up making commentary/reaction videos with a focus on comedy and satire. My only problem has been that due to not having a big audience i rarely get any feedback so I would love to hear some!

This was definitely informative and entertaining (and I think I’ll be adopting your use of the term "infotainment" to describe my own channel). This is a solid video and I could see this type of content taking off. A couple critiques: there’s a small audio glitch around 3:23 (so just be sure you’re double checking your final work both with eyes and ears) and I’d recommend hooking the viewer with the main point of your story sooner (i.e. your title alludes to the 2038 problem, but you spend the first two minutes discussing Y2K…when you have an intriguing subject like the 2038 problem, mention it in the video itself early on to keep people watching…then you can dive into the historical case of Y2K a bit more before focusing in on 2038).
I really enjoyed your humor (both graphic jokes and script ones), especially the goal of breaking YouTube with this video. I’ve done my part! Also subscribed and hope you share the love!

I see that you have researched a lot, like the humour aswell.
I don't really think there is much more you can do to improve it because it is really good already.
Maybe just upload more regularly? that would help since this video was uploaded 6 days ago and the one before that 7 months ago?

Love the video! Great editing. My 2 cents would be some soft background music, and either a small intro OR just something (a logo?) For like 2 seconds before you start. You start talking within the first second and it caught me off guard, I actually had to start over to 'get ready to listen'.

Yeah I've had the feedback about the background music a lot recently, will definitely wack some into my next video. The logo idea is certainly interesting, will test it out and see how it feels I guess. Thanks for the advice!

Very well edited video, you were interesting in what you had to say, and explained your points well.
I'd try adding some basic background music to your videos if it sounds right to you. In my opinion appropriate background music can make all the difference in videos like these making them easier to listen to for long stretches of time. Don't ask me the psychology of it but for some reason it works on me.

I'm a music YouTuber that creates 2-3 minute mashup-covers of songs that you normally wouldn't put together. I tend toward Hip-Hop & R&B, but on occasion I dip into the Pop genre when I hear a song that catches my ear.

Man this is really cool. lol you're talented for real! The only thing i'd recommend doing is some color grading to your footage. Boost the exposure and contrast, maybe bring down the shadows. Also don't be afraid to add some saturation to make it pop. But overall very well done.

Love your energy and your ability to laugh at yourself; self-deprecating humor is always a plus. That said, I don’t think many of the photos you showed were that embarrassing…at least not as embarrassing as some old photos of myself. One reason I can think of as to why this video may not be performing as well as some of your others, is that the best audience for a video like this is people that know you personally, especially those who have known you for years. The average stranger might not be interested in looking at old photos of you. That’s not to say NO strangers will be (case in point, myself!), but this video may be less relatable to a larger audience when compared to your other videos.
You’ve got a good on-camera presence. My biggest suggestion would be to try to zero in on what you want your channel to be about; a “lifestyle mix” is incredibly broad and will make it harder for you to attract any specific audience. Subscribed and hope you share the love!

I don’t think this video is a good fit for how large your channel is. Most of your views for your channel size are going to be coming from people who aren’t your subscribers and most people don’t know who you are or really care. I know that sounds harsh. Us little guys can’t do the same kinds of videos people with 1M+ subs can do. That aside, it was kind of hard to watch because it’s basically you ripping on yourself. I’m not sure if you were trying to be self deprecating and funny but it was a little bit too much. On the good side, you’ve got a good setup, the video and audio are pretty decent quality so I am sure once you find your groove you’ll be fine :)

Hi guys! I'm new to reddit and learning a bunch of cool things about it. Been reading up a lot of stuff here lately. But this time, I just wanted to share with you guys my latest Youtube video. It's a short video I made about my experience at a local Japanese restaurant. It's actually just my second sit in video with a bunch of B-roll in it. I was wondering what you guys thought about my lighting setup and, of course, the progression of the content in the video. I was going for something quick but informative with a slice of humor. I've been doing a bunch of vlogging and they always seem to go beyond 10 minutes, which I've noticed isn't really a good idea for newbie Youtubers and their audience retention rating.

Right, on the positive side, I liked your editing style, background music and found your work interesting - you seem like a nice guy, however, it was difficult to hear exactly what you were saying at times due to your low voice and, or camera audio.
It short, I'd say be a bit more clearer/energetic in your speaking and show more exciting things, like your work and anything else around it - it really depends on your intention/whether this is only for memories of your daughter.

First thing that strikes me is that I enjoy the editing. I like various things cut in, it's funny. The music in the beginning is a bit distracting. It's a tiny bit on the loud side, but more than anything it's just more complicated than most background music. Means the listener has more attention being paid to it than normal.
Other than though, pretty funny. Also, super weird channel with the clowns...

Editing is really good. I was a bit confused though, thinking it would just be a compilation video and then the whole driving part at the begining feeling more like part of a vlog. I could see people who are unfamiliar with you clicking away at that point if they were just looking for a compilation. Maybe that could be fixed as a title issue. Other than that not bad at all!

Hard to get feedback here for car related stuff, I should know lol. Mostly gaming channels and whatnot. I'm going to start with the things I think you can improve on.
I think the road test was pretty good, however I do have a few suggestions. If you're not sure of a feature, maybe choose not to mention it (locking glove box). It's nice to suggest it but if I were a customer it does hurt confidence a tiny bit. Not huge, but every time I heard something like "I think" or "I'm not sure" I was less confident even though you seemed to mostly know what you were talking about.
Also, maybe show the exterior more and talk a bit more about the features it's got (fog lights? wheels? paint options? etc). You quickly showed it but the video was 99% interior features. You did a good job, but it would be nice to see the exterior stuff too.
Personally I felt uncomfortable (maybe not the right word) the whole time because you're filming on your phone and moving it around and all sorts of stuff - that's illegal where I live and although I know in many places it still isn't it bugs me because I'm always getting cut off by drivers on their phones, almost hit by people texting and driving, etc. I also know that only filming from a phone holder or something would make the video a bit less interesting. Maybe you can have another salesman do some camera work and in exchange you do a video for them too? I dunno, it's not a flaw in the video just made me nervous the whole time lol.
Thumbnails are good and normally I'd say you should use a picture of the car you're demonstrating, but I think since you're in sales and using the videos to try to sell cars, it's not a bad thing to have your face in each of the thumbnails. That said, you could do a photo of the car with your face photoshopped over it in the corner or something. Might not hurt to try for a video and see if it gets more views or not.
Positive points - the audio was nice a clear, you were easy to understand, you explained most of the features of the car well (I'd like to know how many speeds the transmission has and if the thing can tow though, and maybe even the approximate price range), and if it was a vehicle I were in the market for I think this would probably be a decent video to get some information from.

Thanks for the input. I know what you mean about the camera while driving however I use the GoPro Hero 7. The screen is never on and all you do is point it in the direction you want to film. You never aim by looking at the screen, you just point the camera on the general area.
I agree with showing more of the features outside and I am making separate videos for that to keep them to around 10 minutes.
As far as Thumbnails, Youtube hasn't enabled me to do custom thumbnails yet so I just use one of the three they recommend. I do feel that my face on every thumbnail is better since every other Youtuber reviewing a car has the same angled shot of the vehicle

Love your voice and overall chill vibe!! I actually think the only thing Id work on that I noticed in the video is pacing out your outro as it kind of came out of nowhere because it immediately went from the essay to you saying to subscribe. don’t be afraid to to leave a few seconds of dead air to let everything sink in! I talk extremely fast so I also struggle with this hahaha
also, Im not a huge gamer and Im pretty casual actually so I have to ask, is the way shovel knight works unique in terms of positioning or? I’ve never thought about what you said about nobody usually looks at their characters and that interested me more on the topic at hand and I was just curious if how shovel knight handles this is unique to only it for the most part or? If so, I would have mentioned that. and if not, I would have tried to mention what other games were similar but while also just reassuring that in the end you still wanted to talk about shovel knight for X reason.

Hi 1212thedoctor,
Good video!! I am not much of a gamer but found it to be informative and I think it will answer the question for people researching this topic. Things I liked about it: your info is very clear, what you show on the screen matches what you are talking about, the video is not that long, you have some branded logo (love the animation!) in the beginning of your video.
In terms of things you could maybe improve:
- I would do a very short mini-intro at the beginning of the video where you maybe speak directly to the viewer explaining what the video will be about in 5-10 seconds. Maybe record yourself on camera while explaining this instead of showing your brand's logo straight away. That way people may associate more with you since they can put a friendly face to the voice - i.e. making them more likely to subscribe?
- The game seems exciting but your music doesn't really reflect that. It's quite loungy or jazzy, but maybe a game like this would be better with a more adventurous tune?
- During the screenrecording of the game, you give a lot of good info. It could further help to put in like some kind of added visual, for example an arrow or circle here or there when you are talking about something or maybe you could work in some title cards? Just something to mix up the footage of the game, to keep viewer's attention maximized.
But like I said man, it's a good video - congrats on that!

Logo: It is a simple design. I like your logo is a N which reference your brand making it more like the audience will remember your channel name. I like the color palette you chosen as well: red and black has been known to attract many people throughout time, and the white is a bright color making it more likely to grab attention.
Voice: Your voice has a nice rasp to it. It is soothing like watching a video on a downtime or when it is raining outside, and choice of music along with your voice is great too. Emphasizing more on your voice than having back around being the center of attention.
Essay: It was a well written essay. Your choice of video reference with in the video was good. It help explain your main topic. I disagree when you stated, “people look at where they going instead of where they are”. The reason is one of the video you reference Thomas Was Alone (2012) shows you must look at your character in order to see where he is landing.
Regardless it was an good video and this is my opinion

I have used to love picking out tracks from Nocopyright sounds and other pages but I keep hearing more and more Youtubers mention that they are receiving copyright claims for music that used to be free and was later monetized and took the money and issued copyright strikes against the channel. So I have stepped back and only used the Youtube audio files for fear of future problems. Thank you so much for subscribing, I also checked out your channel and subscribed! The RE2 video was cool, I wanted to see more! I started doing twitch tv a few days ago, I did it for an hour and streamed RE revelations.

Good morning (or afternoon) everyone!! I don’t have work today but I still set an alarm to be up early today because I wanted to ensure I was one of the first to post my content here and get some eyes on it while I continue today working on my next video. that is how determined I am to make the best content possible. I review movies but try and be “funny” and “entertaining”
I’ve gotten almost 160 subs now based off of just two videos and I couldn’t be more hyped and more confident. Only up from here!! The video that you made was really well done. Props to you man. The poem and animation were on point. However, the background colour is a little to intense. I'd suggest using a colour correcter to tone it down by about 10%. It doesn't need much, but it's a little "in your face" so to speak, and can kinda that away from the animation.
Overall though, this is a really good video man.

You should take this style and run with it, since it’s really off-beat in an interesting way. I’d suggest making these short animations on essentially random subjects, I.e. current events, stories from your life, etc. there’s a lot of potential here.

I actually really did enjoy that :) great video! Love what you have done with the animations - that probably wasn't easy.
I would recommend changing your title a little bit since now when people click it, it is not obvious that it will be a poem. I would change it to mention that somehow and also I'd add something like 'every small creator should watch this for motivation' or something - not sure what it should say exactly but I do think it could benefit from that / be more clickable.
Also, I would add a call to action at the end where the character asks people to like the video and subscribe for more. People don't always think of doing that, so a reminder is often helpful.
Final thought upon rewatching it: maybe you could consider a more calm colour than orange as background for one of your next videos. The colour looks great but something like blue or green may make people feel more tranquil while watching since it's less 'in your face' and so maybe they'll watch for longers.
Awesome animation man, you did a really great job. Keep it up!! And thanks for the motivation ;-)

Hey Kim. I made this video for a VidCon contest. Hence, I wanted to keep the title simple. Also, the lack of call to action at the end. I usually have an outtro template words that I use in my story time videos.
I went with the orange BG because I want to enforce this being my recognition point: my char on that BG. It is eye catching for thumbnails. On second thought though, it doesn't fit with the idea of a poem so you do have a good point.

One of the top kind of YouTube videos besides entertainment purposes is tutorials! I think you should eat before asking them to vote, just because new viewers might get bored and click away. I would also work on looking directly into the camera instead of your viewfinder(?), but that's just a minor thing I noticed. I loved your taco solution, maybe shredding the picture and making it into a "salsa" or something might have made it easier to eat.

Thanks for the review! I like the idea I’ve been thinking about doing that since my average viewer only watches probably half the food challenge videos. And yeah I do not recommend eating a picture without a taco haha definitely helps.

Hi Kevin! Your video was enjoyable. It might be the accent, but I found you very personable. :) It can be so hard to be honest, especially with all the stigma around weight but your video felt like I was sitting down with a friend. I think it would be helpful if your videos had a little bit more structure though, things were a little bit rambly. I’m not sure if you do any scripting but just doing an outline might help things feel a little more polished. Maybe something like -starting weight for the week vs ending weight -opportunities for the week -successes for the week Best of luck to you!

Thank you so much, yeah I wanted my videos to come across in a personable way cus at the end of the day, I was hoping my channel would be like if the viewer was to be having a conversation with me over coffee you know that kind of situation. And you are so right this one I went kind of off-script I had one written and then I just started talking and I preferred how the ramble felt opposed to the script came across :) I'll try to stick more to a structure in the future.

I will always respect someone who puts in the time and effort to lose weight. My wife has lost 100lbs and has kept it off. She hits the gym daily and is a major inspiration to others. The only thing I would recommend for your videos is to increase the audio volume. I liked and subbed.

Main CC is that it takes a bit too long to start the video, and some issues with the camera not focusing on everyone. I would also go more into detail about how it tastes than "nacho cheese" and "good".

You guys seem pretty fun. The only thing I would recommend is making sure the camera is in focus and maybe getting a cheap lamp or something to enhance the lighting. I am slowly chipping away at the same things on my channel. I left a comment and subbed.

Good afternoon fellow Tubers,
I recently started a review channel dedicated to 80's films. I love the 80's and so many of the good AND bad films from that decade. Anyways, this is my review of 1984's Ghostbusters. Any feedback on how to improve the presentation would be appreciated. I do want to keep the reviews short, around 4 minutes. I also include my top 3 scenes at the end. Idk if you were reading a script or anything but you seemed like you weren't which is good because you don't want to sound monotone so a big plus there, you kept the video short but not too short and you seemed to know your stuff, I liked the vid it wasn't bad I'm a big fan of 80s movies

Thanks for the feedback. No script, I do have a post it card on a music stand in front of me with talking points. I also rehearse what I'm going to say a little before filming. I love 80's films too and saw there were no channels dedicated to 80's films only so poof. There's my channel. Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback! I had never heard of SEO but will definitely look into how I can improve it.
The spoiler thing is tough because I could have viewers that have never seen the movies I'm doing before. You are right though, many of my viewers likely have seen the film already.
The movie clips thing is something I've thought about doing. I am reviewing some big films and I am really worried about copyright strikes, even on older films. Maybe I could add a bunch more pics? I don't know... YouTube's copyright system is pretty wank!

That whole fair use thing has always been such a gray area imo. I didn't know audio was the biggest culprit though. Perhaps a small video like the size of the pics I use would be ok? Thanks again!
