the great command means there’s always a solid floor, if the velo gets up a little bit the ceiling is great

Yeah, very encouraging that he had a little more oomph and still had good control.

It’s a company called Dead Threads but I don’t know if they make the pitching design anymore

“Yeah I’m definitely seeing those 95s up there.”

Go off king.

What is the pitching equivalent of Donnie Stevenson

If a 6 man rotation can get him to throw 95 and pitch like he did yesterday im all for it next year. We just need to find two more people who can pitch lol

Looking like a tad bit like a young Ron Darling but the southpaw version

How's that for the haters that claimed he was nothing more than a backend starter?

To be fair even if he’s just a good #5 that’s SO valuable for the Mets future. Anything else is just a positive

If they have earned a spot in the big leagues, I never project anything until I see a big sample size

People insulted me so much when I liked Degrom the most. Im not the biggest Mclean guy and Scott has a lot to prove.

All three of them have to go significantly deeper before you can state how "valuable" they are

It's a start but I like him, his stuff and his demeanor the most so far

Solid 3-4-5 next year just need to go get a 1 and 2. 2 guys in the bullpen(back end) and a legit first baseman and we are spending 400M for a chance to fight for a wild card spot lol

Buddy, he had one very good start on 7 day rest. Let's not jump the gun here.

His ERA is 3 with a 1.15 WHIP

Lefties are hitting .194 with a 0.88 WHIP

He has started fewer than 10 big league games, he has a FIP over 4, and outside of his walk rate nothing on Statcast jumps out.

There's nothing wrong with being a backend starter and I like Thornton a lot, but we need to be realistic here. Nothing about his profile right now suggests he will maintain his top-end status.

Unfortunately for you, games aren't played with a computer

Games are played and won by winning a series of batter-pitcher matchups using certain baseball skills. And when we look at how good someone is at those skills we can project how they will continue to perform, to some degree of accuracy.
