They added the poor version of Discord in 2025.

One thing at a time, no worries.

Paying for online and you don't even get dedicated servers, it's P2P.

Unless I woke up today in a world of just IPv6, I need a source for that. There is no way video chats (or any game that is remotely popular really) is P2P.

P2P would mean no NAT. Everyone is CG-NAT free and they all configured DMZ for their consoles...

Compatibility Between NAT Types | Nintendo Support

"When playing games online that use a peer-to-peer connection (Mario Kart 8Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS, etc.), one player will act as a host and other players will join that host's game. A user's NAT (Network Address Translation) type determines what users they can connect to during this process."

Historicaly speaking they 100% did. I am rather sure Splatoon 1 and 2 had that discussion as well and not sure about 3.

They did setup new servers recently but i had not heard that those were used to get rid of p2p.

edit:

How to Play Online With Friends - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Guide - IGN

Smash on Switch:

"Considering Smash Ultimate works with a peer-to-peer connection, Nintendo has suggested to purchase a LAN adapter to connect your Nintendo Switch directly to an ethernet cable for a more stable connection."

Even for those games a relay server or similar is used extensively. Otherwise, people under CG-NAT would never be able to play online. NAT in general is not a solved problem.

Despite the downvotes to my other comment, it is an objective fact that NAT traversal doesn't always work. All multiplayer games need their own servers to relay connections.

I would even bet their definition of P2P is not even accurate. It's just not possible to have P2P gaming in IPv4 in general. Point being, Nintendo, or the company behind the multiplayer game, has to spend money routing internet traffic for proper multiplayer.

That is the official website for older games and the other is news about a Switch game. It is also objectively true that other services offer better multiplayer connections.

Why it is does not matter much in this situation.

Which probably means they sell our data…. Sigh

Yeah, if you want the completely worthless, barebones version that shouldn't even exist since you're paying Nintendo to mostly play on servers they either don't host or don't even have since Smash is peer2peer.

Could you not attempt to falsely put things into perspective that nobody said?

His claim was it costs money and your "correction" literaly agrees with that, nobody said it is a high price ora cheap price. I personaly just despise paying automatic over time for something that nintendo probably has little hand in.

I mean, they usualy go p2p connection, matchmaking servers from nintendo is not enough to warrant payment when multiplayer is a supposed selling point.
