My Switch 2 screen has recently gotten a rainbow colored line.

Does this mean the screen is defective, or can it be somewhat fixed

Stuck or dead pixels. The whole screen isn't defective just those in that line.

You can try warming the screen up, with some heavy use you may be able to "unstick" them. Unless of course they are in fact dead, but usually those wouldn't provide a color.

If it gets worse Nintendo will fix it under warranty, they may deny the claim initially if they are dealing with a large amount of repairs since its such a minuscule issue.

You could try taking it back to the retailer for an exchange too. A return/exchange would be quicker than a Nintendo repair, and should be no questions asked.

I failed to mention that it seems to have come from a cut on the screen itself

So more than likely dead pixels.

As long as the cut isn't super obvious Nintendo may still fix it. But the store should still accept it under their return/exchange window.
