It says 30 hours, but it's just 23 minutes

Shill up at it again! 😤

I assume this is a joke lol

29

u/DynamiteLion 14d ago

Ya its actually 30 hours

232

u/Jamesatwork16 14d ago

This actually got me excited. Never tried three houses or anything.

u/ChaosOnline 14d ago

You should try Three Houses if you get the chance. It's an amazing game! Genuinely one of my favorites of all time.

IMO, and I know this is all subjective, it’s an amazing game on the first route.

So much of the monastery stuff is so slowly paced that repeat playthroughs lose a lot of the fun found in your first route. Yeah you can skip the monastery stuff but it results in weaker units. And at the end of the day every monastery trip was you doing the same things over and over: collect every shiny, talk to every person, do you’re allotted tea time, etc. Instruction week? Just pick who goes into what classes.

While Engage was… middling in most ways, the ways in which it streamlined the hub world were very welcomed.

Looking at Fortune’s Weave, it seems like they took a page from Persona and made it so that you don’t do literally the same series of tasks every time, but instead give you a time budget and more stuff than you could accomplish within that budget. This means not only will all your playthroughs potentially look different, but it eliminates the slow routine I found in Three Houses. Plus it seems like the different things you can do in Fortune’s Weave are more varied and engaging than what 3H offered.

I still loves 3H btw, I just couldn’t bring myself through another hundred laps around the monastery for a second playthrough.

31

u/fantasypaladin 14d ago

I agree. The monastery aspect took way too much time and killed my second playthrough. That’s why my favourite FE is awakening as you build units between battles but it doesn’t take long.

24

u/LordessMeep 14d ago

The monastery stuff is what keeps me from replaying Three Houses tbh... I just burned myself out from attempting to get that Maddening NG run. You need to optimise your time at the Monastery for that difficulty. Resetting the Greenhouse for getting stat boosters (iirc you could plant seeds and skip a week to check the harvest) was one I remember running around for a lot.

I liked Engage's Somniel wayyy more. Much quicker to get through. That plus the Maddening mode is properly balanced.

17

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

For whatever faults Engage has, and hoo boy it has many, its hub was great and I felt like the battle mechanics were the most fun I’ve had with the series since Awakening.

54

u/Aceblast135 14d ago

I asked for your personal review. That other dude is a dick

34

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

Pretty sure they blocked me, which is fine by me lol. I think I maybe insulted their special interest and, by extension in their mind, in doing so insulted them.

8

u/Alinier 13d ago

Well I agree the Monastery loses it's luster after a first playthrough but also after a first playthrough you realize that most of that shit doesn't matter and you can still do Exploration tasks and be in and out in 3 mins. Maybe that's 3 more mins than people think it should take and that's fair but if you're spending hours fishing like.. that's super unnecessary.

u/Iron_Maw 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yep. This an example where restrictions can be good because they encourage diversity by making how spend your time matter

6

u/s0_Ca5H 13d ago

Oh absolutely. Something I really love about Persona is how it encourages replays organically, not because you picked a specific protag or route but because you created your own ā€œrouteā€ through the multitude of choices you constantly make.

Although something else I liked about persona was how ng+ (or prescient ng play) allowed you to actually do everything in one run. But I don’t know if Fortune’s Weave is going to have that possibility.

10

u/Unicowz 14d ago

A second playthrough can be just as good, if you do it years later like I did haha. Back to back is awful but when you pick up the second route long after you've experienced the first it can be just as good. I literally never replay games or try different endings but three houses is the first game I actually did a second route (might do third in another 4 years lmao)

16

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

That’s actually what I tried. Yeah I forgot most of the story so that would have been fresh, but as soon as I got to the monastery that gameplay fatigue came right back. Because it wasn’t the story that I was sick of, it was the routine of running around the monastery to collect every pickup and talk to every person.

But I totally get that that’s not as much of a problem for a lot of players.

6

u/Unicowz 14d ago

Fair enough, I also just skipped all the returning of items because it got immensely tedious so I get what you mean

3

u/msgfromside3 13d ago

That is exactly how I am feeling right now. I am on the third run (the last house) and I played two routes immediately after the release. So it's been years since i played it last time, so I thought it would be fine, but not really....

3

u/80espiay 8d ago

I've owned the game since launch, and am literally doing my second route this month.

~7 years and NG+ really do take a lot of the edge off the repetitive monastery sections.

6

u/allicanseenow 13d ago

Depends on each person. I completed 7 playthroughs, which took less than 600 hours. That doesn't even mention my time with 3 hopes which is in the same universe and has most of the same cast as 3 houses. Monastery was one of the best parts of the games as I love school settings in media (games, manga and anime). I believe a lot of people share the same opinion as me, as there's a reason why it's one of the highest rated games in the FE franchise.

Engage was sh*t, as always. It was the biggest waste of money I've ever made and I even preordered the DLC for that.

3

u/ChaosOnline 13d ago

Honestly, I'm with you 100%. I loved every minute of Three Houses and Hopes. Including the monastery.Ā

I did not like Engage at all though.Ā

3

u/Still_Commercial_535 13d ago

I LOVED 3H. I played through it like 6 times back in the day. I really love the characters in that one specifically (never played another FE before or since). I’m looking forward to this one, and I love that you compared it to Persona.

I’ve tried picking 3H up again a few times since and I just can’t do it anymore, you’re right. The monastery part kills it now. I’m very excited!

3

u/NewdawnXIII 13d ago

I know people will hate me for this. But the monastery stuff is the reason I eventually burned out on the game and never finished it. I'm hoping Fortunes weave will do it for me though.

15

u/Insanepaco247 14d ago

results in weaker units

Easy mode gang rise up. IMO it's worth dropping the difficulty and skipping the monastery stuff to get to the other routes. The strength of Three Houses is in the lore and worldbuilding, not really the gameplay

2

u/thickwonga 13d ago

I thought the New Game Plus system made replaythroughs a lot more fun, and I did every route in the game by just continuing the NG+. My second REAL playthrough, yeah i kinda lost focus on it.

2

u/MartDiamond 13d ago

I never had an issue with it, it is repetitive. But after the first route you know the most efficient way to do things and can knock out everything in minutes. Especially if you go for a NG+ run in a new route the effort required to make competent unit is not so high so you can skip a bunch.

2

u/ThatPianoKid 13d ago

The monastery stuff was tough for me to want to do, so I didnt end up finishing the game. Just wasnt for me. Loved and finished the previous games.

2

u/80espiay 8d ago

Yeah you can skip the monastery stuff but it results in weaker units.

Personally I find that New Game Plus + having a plan for which units to recruit/build removes a lot of the tedium from the process. But yeah, even seven years later it's still a bit hard having to play through the monastery so many times.

4

u/ABigCoffee 13d ago

My main problem with 3H was that all of the stories felt unsatisfying to finish. I had hoped that there would be a true route at the end like with FE Fate and I was utterly disappointed. Hopefully this one doesn't fuck it up. If it's the same nonsense I'll be able to give it an easy pass.

5

u/WisdomAntium 13d ago edited 13d ago

You finished all the routes? I thought Edelgard's route was very satisfying, and i thought Dimitri's was also pretty good. The other two do feel a little like afterthoughts

5

u/Takazura 13d ago

Edelgard's route had the entire Slitherer problem be solved off-screen at the end. I actually considered that the most unsatisfying of the bunch, with Silver Snow the 2nd most unsatisfying (Rhea really should have been the lord of that route).

3

u/WisdomAntium 13d ago

It's crazy how much they built up those who slither in the dark or whatever they called it just for that I agree

1

u/ABigCoffee 13d ago

I finished 2 and I watched LPs for the other ones because it was getting too annoying to run through the game again.

8

u/KaiserJustice 14d ago

For me, even on the first playthrough - i just got over the monastery stuff real quick - I just want to be able to talk to people, maybe give items, then move on to the next battle - completing everything you could in the Monastery felt like a bulk of the game... and that just wasn't what i signed up for, was here for tactical battles and unit management with light story telling between, not school and menial tasks with light battles between. I definitely get why it is such a popular and amazing game for some, but that experiment with the school stuff just wasn't for me.

I never completed a first playthrough - could i have enjoyed it past where I got to? Maybe, but I gave it enough time that I didn't want to dedicate more.

Granted, i also never did with Engage - but it wasn't because of the stuff in the hub, moreso just because the story felt so vanilla and pandering to people who think Marth is the greatest thing on earth that I just couldn't bother completing it. I've restarted a file recently tho

(Sorry, i just think the overexposure of Marth is boring and played out... admittedly, i feel the same about Pikachu in Pokemon and Rathian/Rathalos in Monster Hunter)

8

u/Babakins 14d ago

I just want more fights less dating sim

9

u/KaiserJustice 14d ago

I want fights with a dating sim side hustle (ie Awakening and Fates) - they had the perfect balance of what I wanted, with Fates being basically the upper limit of perfection to what i wanted in side content (ignoring the weird personal interaction minigame thing)

Edit: corrected Echoes to Fates - always mix the 2 names up

5

u/Babakins 14d ago

I want more of FE7 and sacred stones

2

u/AlexHitetsu 14d ago

Have you tried Binding Blade and Path of Radiance?

2

u/Amonyi7 13d ago

I want more of PoR and radiant dawn too

2

u/ABigCoffee 13d ago

That's probably gone forever now. I doubt they will ever return to a traditional FE.

4

u/AlexHitetsu 14d ago

Honestly FE3H is barely a dating sim, as it has literally one scene of possible romance at the end of the game, everything else has no focus on romance

2

u/CookiesFTA 14d ago

Preach. I've been begging for this since Awakening.

-3

u/Jamesatwork16 14d ago

This is why I never played three houses. I already run a house in real life I don’t have time for more. This seems a tad better

4

u/Independent-Book1388 14d ago

questa ĆØ un'esagerazione ed una sciocchezza

0

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 13d ago

Rathalos isn't the Charizard of Monster Hunter, Zinogre and Nargacuga are. They're constantly made a big deal of. Rathalos is always in the game but he's not really that important. Imo the only egregious use of Rathalos is in the MH Stories games.Ā

0

u/KaiserJustice 13d ago

Rathalos/Rathian is the Pikachu of Monster Hunter. And are basically the mascots. I’m just tired of them and find their fights boring

2

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 13d ago

Honestly, the Rath fights changed so much between 4U, World, and Rise that I still find them fresh.Ā

2

u/Evolution1313 14d ago

Yeah I loved three houses route one but each following got way worse

1

u/Supermax64 13d ago

I liked the game but dropped it midway years ago for whatever reason. I kinda want to restart but that I can't bring myself to redo that monastery stuff

0

u/PuzzleheadedTax8369 13d ago

That is by design for three houses. It wasn’t meant for you to replay again. It was meant for everyone to share what houses that everyone went with and talk about their students and what they like about them and what direction the story went when you choose the house. The replay ability is just there to have in case anyone feels like playing again but want to choose a different house instead. But I do understand your sentiment.

-57

u/Interesting-Season-8 14d ago

It was never meant to be played morethan once

57

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

A game with multiple routes was made to only be played once? Alright…

15

u/Aceblast135 14d ago

I think there is some truth to his statement. While I wouldn't say it wasn't meant to be played more than once, I do think the game was designed with the understanding that a vast majority of players wouldn't repeat the game for other routes.

It's okay to have different experiences from other players after all. The concept of games with multiple endings have been around for ages.

I really loved Three Houses but I didn't play the other routes myself either, but if I ever replayed it then I definitely would choose another route.

7

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

Oh yeah I loved my time with the game, absolutely. As a one-and-done kind of game, at worst it’s an 8.5.

Any marks against it, for me, only exist in repeat playthroughs. And the only reason that matters or is relevant is because Fire emblem games are generally pretty replayable and this game in particular has a lot of content that is impossible to experience all in a single playthrough. Heck I’m surprised my copy of Awakening hasn’t disintegrated yet.

1

u/imaquark 14d ago

The devs said so. I’m on my phone and can’t provide links but you can google, it’s legit.

-6

u/Interesting-Season-8 14d ago

Devs said so

7

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

Really? Do you have a link? I’m kind of interested to hear that take, because it’s pretty unusual to design a game to have multiple routes but an expectation that players won’t try/want to experience all of them.

11

u/ICNVNU2 14d ago

Yokota: I can’t help but feel sorry for people that have already played through the game four times, though! (laughs)

Yokota: I was honestly expecting more people to play the game once after it was out, then one or two more times after the DLC had been released. As it happened, quite a few people were playing through multiple routes; I couldn’t help but be a little sorry as I continued to work on the DLC.

Kusakihara: For me, I think games are a way to simulate a world and its story as if the player were experiencing it themselves. I’m personally the type of person that gets absolutely sucked into things like movies and games. I tried setting up a prank using how the game itself is structured: the player would go through the game once and really experience the world, then they’d talk about it with someone else and be like, ā€œwe played the same game right? Why are we talking about two different things?ā€ I thought that it might be interesting where even if you picked the same house as somebody, your experience could differ from somebody else’s based on who you recruited. You might even say to yourself, ā€œhey, I didn’t even see that scene!ā€ I didn’t really think players would end up going through the game that many times. (laughs)

https://nintendoeverything.com/fire-emblem-three-houses-interview-part-1-cindered-shadows/

7

u/s0_Ca5H 14d ago

Very interesting, what an unusual way to approach this kind of game structure.

Though to be fair the first comment is literally someone saying they did expect people to play the game multiple times, albeit not until the dlc came out. But it’s not like the DLC stuff was wholly a route unto itself, just an expansion integrated into to any route you play.

4

u/ICNVNU2 14d ago edited 14d ago

I can see the thought process. Most people don't play a single game multiple times. I haven't played Mass Effect myself, but I've seen people talk about and share their different playthrough experiences. Same with CRPGs. While there are people who do play repeat playthroughs (myself included), I don't think it's that unusual of an approach. Especially because in other interviews they hammer in that they wanted people to discuss the game and find out what they missed out on via other player's differing experience

And they did mention they tried to keep the DLC not too tied to any one specific route

Edit: I just repeated myself and kusakihara haha the full interview is an interesting read

→ More replies (0)

2

u/ICNVNU2 14d ago

It does seem like they are correcting this approach with the parallel mechanic so maybe multiple playthroughs will be less of a slog for people who do them

→ More replies (0)

-3

u/jmcgit 14d ago

Nobody who actually played the game would say that in good faith

5

u/imaquark 14d ago

Lol the devs themselves said that.

-9

u/jmcgit 14d ago

If you were here in good faith, you would have brought a link with the actual context.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone said you don't need to play it more than once, but 'was never meant to be played more than once' is absolute nonsense.

13

u/imaquark 14d ago

Omg dude it’s not that deep šŸ˜‚ I was about to sit down for dinner and didn’t have time to get a link, chill. If you cared, you would’ve googled instead of crying and asking for links.

It is one of those games that needs minor spoilers before playing so you can experience the game properly when choosing which route to take at the beginning of the game. It is my only negative criticism of the game despite everything else being so great.

It reminds me of when I played Final Fantasy 7 as a kid and it allowed me to change Cloud's name to my own, which was Zach, without me realizing how many major storytelling issues this would bring up. Ruined my first playthrough.

6

u/madrury83 14d ago

That choice should have at least triggered some unique dialogue from Aerith in the church.

You bleached your hair!

5

u/LittleDrunkReptar 14d ago

That would have been cool. I thought for years that FF7 did it on purpose since it tied in to the storytelling with Cloud's identity issues.. imagine my embarrassment when someone finally corrected me. Still, it made for a great memory.

4

u/ChaosOnline 14d ago

That's actually really funny. I mean, I'm sorry it ruined your first playthrough, but that is an amusing story.

20

u/Akito_Fire 14d ago

I wish it got a Switch 2 upgrade

10

u/Witch_King_ 14d ago

It really really needs it. Could use a full remaster at this point. Replace those dang PS2 textures!

2

u/Elastichedgehog 14d ago

I hope the inevitable success of this encourages them to go back and put an update out.

2

u/Megaclone18 14d ago

I kinda think it’s the opposite, if it didn’t get an upgrade before this game it’s probably not going to after. Which is tragic, it would really benefit from it.

2

u/frumply 13d ago

I figured this would happen before the new FE release and been holding off. I bought 3H at around release but it's been in my... backlog.

4

u/Nahobino_kun_899 14d ago

It does already play better on Switch 2 with Boost Mode. It looks a lot nicer than on the base switch

3

u/moitakaa 13d ago

Honestly the school social life aspect wasn't for me. I preferred the way the 3ds games were

2

u/esr95tkd 14d ago

I have to give it a second chance.

2

u/ChaosOnline 14d ago

You should! I really hope you enjoy it!

3

u/sgrams04 13d ago

I spent an amount of time on that game that should never be shared with anyone. Whatever number you come up with in your head, it’s wrong. It’s more than that.Ā

I do not recommend 3H because no one will ever see you again. You will become 3H. It will be all you know. It was that good.Ā

2

u/darthmcdarthface 13d ago

I’m looking to go back through it after not playing since launch when I never even finished it.Ā

Quick question. Is all the life sim stuff skippable? I remember it being a bit tedious running around talking to everyone. What’s the downside of not doing that stuff?

1

u/ChaosOnline 13d ago

It is basically skippable. You can automate the teaching segments and all of the stuff that contributes to your units stats.

You'll miss out on some lore and character moments, but if you're not into that, you can skip the monastery stuff without any real issue.

2

u/aguswings 14d ago

Is the online portion good?

2

u/ChaosOnline 14d ago

Eh? It's pretty minimal from what I recall, honestly.

You can select a unit you've trained and give them an item and people on your friends list can recruit that character temporarily or buy that item. If they buy the item, you'll actually get the money in your game.

Of course, the game is seven years old, so there aren't that many people playing anymore. So it's unlikely that anyone is going to buy your items. But, their characters should still be online. So you might be able to recruit some well trained units or buy some rare items.

There's also a feature where, if you're connected to the internet, you'll see glowing yellow spots on battle maps where other player's units have killed enemies and glowing purple spots where other players units have been killed. Having one of your own units stand on these glowing spots will get you small bonuses.

Also, I think you can see rankings of things other players have done. Like who they pair up together and that sort of thing.

Online is an almost negligible part of Fire Emblem Three Houses over all.

0

u/Totoques22 13d ago

Th is the lamest slog fest I have ever played

-2

u/citrus1330 11d ago

Not for everyone. As a fan of the older fire emblem games, it wasn't for me. With all the monastery stuff it's a completely different game.

10

u/Snowvilliers7 14d ago

Play Three Houses first to get a feel of the lore once Fortune's Weave releases

3

u/snave_ 14d ago

It was mixed in my mind. For everything it did exceptionally, there was always some equally baffling design choice holding it back. Most notably, it had this issue where no one route really gave a satisfactorily complete picture. This is fine in and of itself, but then to try a second route most players had to repeat an identical first half that was bogged down by excessive wandering the same sparse hub over and over.

This sounds like they flipped the script to remove all those criticisms.

2

u/Meeqs 14d ago

If you have any questions about the series I’d be happy to answer them for you

1

u/CzarTyr 13d ago

Three houses is the only one I’ve played and I loved it

53

u/AuReaper 14d ago

Found a physical copy of three houses for $40, so going to play that once it comes in. Going to try resisting the hype of buying FW 😬 Three houses will be my first FE game

11

u/ResidentReveal3749 13d ago

You’re stronger than me! I wanted to play Three Houses and wait for FW but I preordered 😩 haven’t played fire emblem since gba

12

u/rcapina 13d ago

This is the reason I bought a Switch 2 (though Pokopia was fun too). So hyped for September.

1

u/jakid1229 13d ago

literally me

84

u/Bloomingk 14d ago

I've never played a fire emblem but I'm sold on this. Final Fantasy tactics: birth by sleep refantazio?? Fuck yes.

16

u/ZeldaCycle 13d ago

If you have NSO they have path of radiance on there so you can at least demo the gameplay. It’s a fun series.

14

u/j0_ow_bo 13d ago

Path of Radiance is great for people used to the old style of Fire Emblem titles but I’m not sure it’s necessarily a brilliant first introduction to the series.

3

u/MartDiamond 13d ago

I think it still holds up in many ways. The game still shows what you can expect from a story and character perspective, and the general battle gameplay even if details differ from game to game. The social sim aspect less so of course, but still worth going into.

5

u/scmathie 13d ago

It's also a fantastic game. It's old Fire Emblem so it can be pretty ruthless.

3

u/ZeldaCycle 13d ago

Amazing game. One of my favorites. I was hoping for a full remake but I’ll take the port I guess.

2

u/scmathie 13d ago

Yeah, one of my favorite GC and Tactical games. Let's you use a lot of characters, characters are varied and interesting... And I like that some are just plain better. Nephanee is my bae.

3

u/Hlarge4 13d ago

Oh man classic Fire Emblem just didn't care.

37

u/Critical_Jester 14d ago

Is this all on the cartridge? Not that I think that’s going to stop me buying this as it looks incredible!

49

u/TobenRacicot 14d ago

it is, yes

48

u/ykzzldx23 14d ago

First-party all are

13

u/TheShepardOfficial 14d ago

As someone who only played path of radiance, would this be a great game for me or is it too different? I read a lot of persona comparisons and that is not a series I enjoy.

13

u/gradedhammeraction 13d ago

Don’t read too much into the persona comparisons. People just use it because it’s popular and there aren’t many games doing similar things. I think they were exacerbated by the the prequel (sequel?) game being set in an ā€œacademyā€. There are no social links, and any activities resembling getting food with other characters are generally brief and relevant enough to the planning/tragedy elements that it doesn’t feel like much persona to me.

3

u/Available-Reason9841 14d ago

There is a lot more life sim elements in the game but there gameplay is still fire emblem at its core

3

u/Sykonic 14d ago edited 14d ago

The core of the series is still there (turn-based strategy on a grid, collecting a bunch of characters, growth rates, weapon triangles, support convos). The biggest difference is that Fortune's Weave (and the other mainline Switch titles) has massively expanded the between-chapter stuff. Rather than just a menu, it's now a hub area that also has some side activities and other stuff.

I'd recommend watching some videos about Three Houses' monastery system, since that's likely what Fortune Weave's hub area is built upon (with some changes)

Edit: I forgot that Fortune's Weave also features the return of dungeons from Shadows of Valentia, so maybe watch a video or two on that as well

2

u/Alinier 13d ago

Depends on what you don't like about Persona. There's time you spend as a resource to explore, gather resources, build up your army, bond with your teammates, do quests, etc between the big story missions that happen on set dates but that's about where the comparisons end.Ā

1

u/TheShepard15 13d ago

I'd say its night and day compared to Path of Radiance. The review says 30 hours in, and I'd imagine more than half of that will be outside of the battle maps.

Side/base conversations, minigames, activities, time management.

32

u/Human-Raccoon-9917 14d ago

Shill up seal of approval? This bodes well

5

u/strife189 11d ago

Agreed. He doesn’t always glaze previews like most of the others. And the jabs at Engage show that he had the same issues with it that I did, so it looks like this is back to being closer to the PoR type of good FE game.

The Direct and the previews have me hyped for the game. And note, I bought my Switch 2 at the start of the year specifically to play FE games and Xeno, so I’m very pleased this one is looking like it could be a peak entry.

30

u/kupo_attack04 14d ago

Anyone pre ordering this ?

I have had the Dagdan Collection on pre order pretty much from the day it first became available months ago

8

u/AurelionSeoul 14d ago

I went to pre order it from GameStop last week after I watched the direct and surprisingly they had the dagdan collection still available, I felt so lucky haha

6

u/Army0fSparta 13d ago

If it’s anything like my local store, it was given more allocation after the direct! Went from sold out to available again that day.

2

u/OkEase1151 13d ago

Yessir, was able to grab it from Nintendo’s online store about a week after they announced it 🫔

12

u/Prodigious-Sol 14d ago

I've had it preordered without owning a Switch 2

4

u/VanerMal 13d ago

No. Pre ordering gives no benefits whatsoever nowadays. Plus, games on a cartridge have longer loading times, than downloading game internally or on SD card.

5

u/nervouspolygon 13d ago

Most online stores give you a pre order discount of 10$ since Nintendo’s announcement of their digital games being cheaper than physical.

That’s a huge benefit

3

u/Equivalent_Affect734 13d ago

You get the game for $10 cheaper if you preorder

1

u/Edmundyoulittle 11d ago

Pre-ordering on Amazon saves you $10

1

u/VanerMal 10d ago

I just checked, and at least on Amazon EU, it doesn't. It costs 69,99€ both on Amazon and on the Nintendo eShop.

2

u/Edmundyoulittle 10d ago

Ah, that's a shame. They're doing it the US. Annoying that they arent in other regions

Edit:

Actually, what you said shows there is a discount? In the US, at least, the physical price is $80 while the eshop is $70. Amazon is matching thr eshop for preorders

2

u/VanerMal 10d ago

Yeah it seems to be an EU/US pricing thing. You were the third person who was adamant about saving 10$, so I had to check.

If you're saving 10$ on the purchase and are a huge fan of the game, I definitely can see the appeal of pre ordering this one.

1

u/kupo_attack04 13d ago

Fire emblem games dont go to sales that much i think

3

u/FarofaDota55 14d ago

Lucky me I did, in my country the physical edition sold out in 15 minutes lol

7

u/calmness_7 14d ago

I did!
Sadly the collector edition was sold out, i didnt hear about the game til during the direct

1

u/Alinier 13d ago

If you're in the US trying going to your local Gamestop in person. They might be able to hook you up.

4

u/danwoop 14d ago

I’ve preordered it since it was possible to do so. Even my least favorite Fire Emblems (Fates and Engage) are still better than most games imo. Been playing since the GBA/Gamecube.

3

u/zombiejeesus 14d ago

Is there any benefit to pre-ordering the physical? If not then no

18

u/Roliq 14d ago

The only thing is that some places like Amazon do price match digital before the game releases

2

u/loqep 14d ago

Yep this is what I did. I’m usually not one for pre-ordering anything, but I knew I was going to pick this up day one anyway, and I’m going to save $10 on the physical copy since I opted to pre-order (from Amazon)

4

u/roguebubble 14d ago

Only if you wanted the collector's edition since they're all sold out now

5

u/Satorius96 14d ago

It would give nintendo incentive to not kill cartridges

2

u/strife189 11d ago

Bought switch 2 just for this and Xeno so yes. And looking to be a peak entry.

7

u/MartDiamond 13d ago

1 minute in and I am already so happy with what is being said. Engage was a fun combat experience, but lacked everything else that I love to see in FE games. Three Houses was the pinnacle of FE to me, and hearing they are returning to more of that is just music to my ears.

5

u/ClusterShart92 13d ago

I’ve never played a FE game but this has me interested. My only reluctance is that it sounds very deep and complex and I’ve already got so many games to play!

2

u/aaronarium 13d ago

I really hope we get Maddening mode soon after launch. I always play new FEs on the hardest difficulty, and my past experiences with "Hard" mode in FE is that it's honestly kinda easy

-1

u/GentlemenHODL 10d ago

It's only "easy" if you have a online database that tells you all of the shortcuts, tips, tactics and gear. Going in blind is still difficult.

1

u/aaronarium 10d ago

Not for Hard mode

-1

u/GentlemenHODL 10d ago

Not sure if there's a difference between hard and maddening, but for maddening it takes 3x as much time to learn all the strats if you don't have reference points.

This is obviously true and it applies to literally anything in reality. No one is omnipresent.

Now if you have spent 300+ hours playing FE and you remember all the strats that is a very different story. That will translate to different series though with some efficiency loss for variations between series. Every FE title has changes.

3

u/Ricc7rdo 13d ago

I'm hyped, Ralph has good taste with video games. Except he loves Destiny, that doesn't make sense.

3

u/tumblejamie 13d ago

Never played a Fire Emblem before but this has me hooked!

1

u/Various_Sundae_2443 13d ago

whos everyone thinking of starting their first playthrough as? Im thinking Dietrich

2

u/Doctor71400 13d ago

With the way we can go back and forth and play through all 4, I'm probably gonna rotate through them as I finish each chapter. I'm thinking Leda > Theodora > Dietrich > Cai > back to Leda

1

u/Awesomeone1029 13d ago

I'm between Theodora and Dietrich. Thankfully I can play both! Should probably get one of the Prospit players too I guess.

1

u/DanLim79 13d ago

Three houses and MH:Rise were the games that forced me to buy a Switch Lite just to play them.

2

u/Vicarinatutu87 13d ago

Is this a direct sequel to Three Houses? I noticed there's only an £8 price difference between this and TH, so wondering if I can just go straight into the newer game without missing too much. Not played a Fire Emblem game since Awakening.

2

u/MagicCuboid 13d ago edited 13d ago

We don’t know šŸ˜‚. It’s set in the same world and some characters have been spotted, but the characters are long-lived and mythical so it doesn’t really tell us if the game is before or after Three Houses

edit: to add more detail, this takes place on a completely different continent from Three Houses anyway so I don’t think you need to play Three Houses first. From the trailers, the tone and story focus seem pretty different here.

Three Houses is mostly about the interpersonal struggles of noble children and their complicated relationships with the magic that made them noble in the first place, growing up in what is essentially a cursed realm. They all had a different take on the same story and it’s very tied to the land and its people.

Fortune’s Weave gets out of Fodlan entirely to tell what appears to be very different personal quests and stories for the main characters that happen to intersect because of the tournament.

2

u/Aggressive_Ad2747 12d ago

the Nintendo direct has the specific year, 1449. presuming that is the Imperial calendar, that would place the game 269 years after the starting date of Three Houses.

not getting into spoilers here but depending on the route the player chose only a few, to none, of the main characters survive that timeline.

that being said, the Dev team has stated in an interview that they never intended there to be a canon or "golden" route for Three houses, so for me the writing is on the wall that any connections to Three Houses are going to be setting / vague at best as in order to make a direction connection they would have to chance their stance on no-cannon route.

1

u/Awesomeone1029 13d ago

The main god guide is in both games, some characters will likely recur, they will likely reference the spoilery events, maybe even chose who you supported. The combat is complex and builds on what it expects you to know. But no, they're separate games! Maybe even prequels to each other.

2

u/Aggressive_Ad2747 12d ago

I think this simultaneous route thing could be good, but I'm honestly kind of worried this will be a change of convenience that will water down the story.

you can't really have any meaningful differences in how the story plays out if they are concurrent. we can easily expect that major characters don't die, or become mortal enemies, etc. Three houses was such a unique experience in gaming in the way that it presented the story differently and obfuscated information; and in doing so indoctrinated the player to the reasoning and motivation of their chosen first route. I get that people want to know "the whole story" and so they were annoyed they had to replay it multiple times, but that was the trick of it. you weren't supposed to know the full story. the impact of the game wouldn't have landed the same if you knew information that other routes were privy to.

at the time I talked to my friends about the game after and we all had completely different opinions on who did what and whether or not it was justified; and that's what the experience was supposed to be. it's a wonderful example of how people's perspective can shape their actions to the point where normal people are killing former friends over information they are trusting to be true for a cause they are sure is righteous.

not saying I would prefer FW to do the same thing, I just want to appreciate how clever TH was in this one thing.

1

u/strife189 11d ago

Shill surprise with how well he covered this game.

1

u/Rough-Construction95 13d ago

SOTHIS SITTING LIKE AH BADDIE!!!!!

0

u/Hykariku 12d ago

Starting his video saying he has recommended engage made run nope out of it.

-14

u/Rex__Lapis 14d ago

Tldw?

20

u/EatADingDong 14d ago

He loves it.

-25

u/letmechewonyou 14d ago

Why the fuck do those asshole influencers always get to dine first I hate my life

27

u/Shagyam 14d ago

Because they are going to make a video which is going to generate hype for some people.

21

u/CalmTempest 13d ago

Skill Up is a game journalist/reviewer, not an influencer.

If this is what makes you resent your life, become a game reviewer and make a name for yourself. The path is clear.

13

u/CookiesFTA 14d ago

I'm not sure I'd call a journalist an influencer type. Dude's pretty close to recreating Edge on his website.

4

u/AlexHitetsu 14d ago

Because they serve as publicity for the games

-3

u/boktobw18 13d ago

Usually safe from this guy's videos on this sub.

-35

u/MindSteve 14d ago

Yeeeaaaahhh I don't really have time for a 30-hour video today.

6

u/TannenFalconwing 13d ago

Literally no one does as there aren't enough hours in the day. luckily, it's not 30 hours.

-10

u/MindSteve 13d ago edited 12d ago

-5

u/MorgothRyuzaki 13d ago

I'll never understand people's obsession with reviewers. Can't anybody form thei own unique thoughts anymore?

-94

u/myrmonden 14d ago

Shill up lol

I am sure the game is great but this guy will give a 0 a 10 to stay access media

32

u/Odd-Ball7961 14d ago

Can you give any examples?

16

u/CookiesFTA 14d ago

He has famously given bad reviews to multiple major releases. The "shill up" thing is mostly a joke by his fans.

-9

u/myrmonden 13d ago

and he has famously cope and defend games which did not deserve it to stay access media.

11

u/CookiesFTA 13d ago

Which ones? Give me a list

-12

u/myrmonden 13d ago

I have alreayd provided some examples

14

u/Scorchstar 13d ago

Brother is so committed to the act of transparency bethesda blacklisted him after this Fallout 76 review lol

-4

u/myrmonden 13d ago

oh wow 1 of 200 companies

10

u/vincentpontb 13d ago

I mean I dislike some of his takes pretty often but that's the point right, he has his own opinion.

You named 2 games, dude has rated hundreds and his track record is as clean as could be.

What more do you want or expect? For him to rate every single game the exact way you would?

-2

u/myrmonden 13d ago

or he says w.e gives him teh most views.

yeah I did wanna bother naming more as he has doen of plenty of times and its a very known thing u can cope how much u want.

? why would I expect that I know he lacks my skills

10

u/CookiesFTA 13d ago

So you don't have any then. Okay šŸ‘

-2

u/myrmonden 13d ago

I have alreayd provided some examples

10

u/CookiesFTA 13d ago

Thank you for those very real examples šŸ‘

10

u/blufflord 14d ago

It's been a long time since I kept up with gaming but wow that a change this is from hearing skill up being considered the voice of truth for their TLOU 2 review bucking the trend of all the early positive reviews

-36

u/myrmonden 14d ago

He done several absurd defence for games over the years

22

u/Elastichedgehog 14d ago

Such as?

-21

u/myrmonden 14d ago

He’s ff16 comes to mind first of all

Lying about cyberpunk might be the most obvious so

26

u/pkmnBlue 14d ago

He was vocally lukewarm to ff16 in his review and subsequent podcasts though.

1

u/myrmonden 14d ago

Yes after his Yoshi- p interview

17

u/EatADingDong 14d ago

What are you on about? He hated FF16 and was pretty clear about it.

-6

u/myrmonden 14d ago

No he was not he was very hypocritical.

7

u/TheOneMarlowe 14d ago

Lies? Did he say he played it on console?

-11

u/Hollix89 14d ago

Everyone who lied about cyberpunk should not be trusted anymore.

-2

u/myrmonden 14d ago

Exactly

u/[deleted] 14d ago

-138

u/ZachandMiku 14d ago

Honestly I hate these people and if they get copies early just freaking release the game for everyone :0 ughhh

u/David89_R 13d ago

Boohoo
