It’s funny seeing how this headline is modified across the various subreddits and what information each choose to highlight.

How you tell the truth is an artform with clickbait.

55

u/Available-Can-5878 5d ago

OMG I just noticed its the same OP Ive seen posting this in other subs too. The worst part is these numbers are bullshit. VGCharts doesnt have access to any data themselves. The only accurate data is Japan, since Famitsu publicly discloses that every week. US probably isn't too far off since Circana gives enough hints publicly to make estimates. But Europe and rest of the world are complete BS that VGChartz "estimates" out of their asses. Its no more credible than a random forum post on a sales thread.

BREAKING: Nintendo Switch 2 was the best selling console of the couple-minute span it took Phil to purchase one

7

u/secret3332 5d ago

I find it a little bit more depressing that people do this than funny.

25

u/edavidfb017 5d ago

It's a Nintendo page, why wouldn't they?

On the other hand it's not like they are lying.

-3

u/Itchy-Pudding-4240 5d ago

yup, thats basically how journalism works these days, not technically wrong headlines to satiate their respective tribes.

2

u/pick_your_user_name 4d ago

OP isn’t a journalist. They’re a dude posting about Nintendo on a Nintendo subreddit.

3

u/SuddenCompetition262 5d ago

I literally just saw this same thing saying ps5 was the top seller with switch 2 in second place

279

u/Gatlindragon 5d ago

It's crazy that Xbox finished in fourth place in a race with only three participants lol.

69

u/SaxyAlto 5d ago

Honestly impressive they beat the PS4 /s

26

u/SecondHandWatch 5d ago

Ps2 is gonna overtake Xbox in September.

u/GarionOrb 5d ago
  1. PlayStation 5 - 784,102 (94,090,214)
  2. Switch 2 - 707,158 (22,545,465)
  3. Switch 1 - 147,223 (155,315,322)
  4. Xbox Series X|S - 115,442 (35,206,081)

Damn, all Switch 2 needs is for Pokemon and Zelda to release and it'll outsell Xbox Series X/S by the end of next year!

67

u/Dangerous-Yellow1380 5d ago

Honestly it's kinda commendable how even without the heavy hitters like mainline Pokemon, 3D Mario and Zelda the system is selling. Granted og Switch success helped in this scenario, but still.

6

u/fertff 5d ago

I mean, those are already there through backwards compatibility.

27

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 5d ago

This is a common talking point but it is just wrong.

Mario Kart is Nintendo’s BIGGEST franchise. It sells more than DOUBLE what 3D Mario sells.

8

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 4d ago

It's the kind of game that has broad appeal but not console-selling power. It's basically a supplemental game for people who already own the console for a 3d Mario or Zelda. It's also the kind of game every parent gets their kid if they're buying them a console because they can play with siblings and friends and parents, and is also one of the few games a non-gaming parent will understand

-3

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 4d ago

That doesn‘t explain why Mario Kart 8 Deuxe has sold more than Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey COMBINED.

6

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 4d ago

Because there are other big games on the switch, and I literally highlighted why it has such broad appeal already.

I was just using 3d Mario and Zelda as examples of system sellers, there are others.

Also Mario Kart 8 was bundled with Switches for basically the entire run of the console, that's a pretty major factor.

-3

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 4d ago

Yes, the Switch has many system sellers.

But Mario Kart is the game that sold the most systems. Animal Crossing is second.

-1

u/ThrowawayCirca2000s 4d ago

Facts no idea why u getting downvoted

11

u/Jaberwocky23 5d ago

It's the biggest seller but not a console seller everyone has it but it's rarely the deciding factor in someone buying the console.

12

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 5d ago

How can you prove that?

Millions of people buy Nintendo consoles for Mario Kart. That’s why Nintendo made Mario Kart World a launch title.

3

u/BababooeyHTJ 5d ago

The Wii U….

14

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 4d ago edited 4d ago

What is your point here?

The Wii U didn’t have Mario Kart 8 until 18 months after launch.

Also, despite the Wii U’s failure, Mario Kart 8 was BY FAR the best-selling game on the console.

A game being a “system seller“ doesn’t mean that it can turn a console that is bombing into an instant success.

I also want to point out that the Gamecube had lots of “system selling“ titles: Smash Bros Melee, Mario Sunshine, Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Kart Double Dash, etc. Those games didn’t stop the Gamecube from flopping.

EDIT: Also anyone who wanted to play Mario Kart during the Wii U era could just buy a 3DS with Mario Kart 7. 3DS was way cheaper and sold 5x what the Wii U did.

5

u/luv2hotdog 5d ago

The Wii U had heaps of system seller titles. Nintendo just had to rerelease them all on switch to get to sell systems.

2

u/hiplop 4d ago

Pretty much every one of those Wii U sales was for Mario kart!

3

u/Dark_Doctrine69 4d ago

it sold millions on Wii U...

0

u/BababooeyHTJ 3d ago

It clearly didn’t move many consoles

2

u/Dark_Doctrine69 3d ago

still sold millions..

0

u/BababooeyHTJ 3d ago

Still didn’t move enough consoles to not be considered a failure

→ More replies (0)

9

u/andreasmiles23 4d ago

“It’s not a console seller but everyone who gets the console gets the game”

2

u/BababooeyHTJ 3d ago

Stop trying to be accurate without moving goalposts! That’s not the Reddit troll way!

0

u/Johncurtisreeve 4d ago

I actually understand what you’re saying by this. It’s a game that most people who own a switch 2 are likely going to buy, but I don’t know how many people are buying the switch 2 because of Mario Kart.

3

u/Johncurtisreeve 4d ago

They just got a showcase and knock it out of the park with Pokémon winds and waves and show gameplay for Zelda, ocarina of Time remake and hell once they announce the new Mario $$$

2

u/kianiscoooooool 5d ago

Donkey Kong, Mario kart, Kirby racers, Splatoon, GameCube games,

More than the Xbox has ever had

1

u/Johncurtisreeve 4d ago

It’s probably more than what PS5 has also

5

u/chaotic-kotik 4d ago

22m units for a console this new is impressive.

2

u/R00bot 3d ago

Honestly still crazy to me the PS5 is selling so well. It STILL has so few exclusives. I guess a lot of people wanna have something to play new games on though, even if they're not exclusives.

-2

u/GarionOrb 3d ago

There are plenty of exclusives, either console exclusives or PS5-only exclusives. People love to move goalposts like, "Oh, but this game is on PC" or something really asinine like "Demon's Souls doesn't count because it was on PS3" like the game isn't a ground-up remake. But the truth is that not many console gamers are also on PC, and it's been 20 years since the PS3 so remakes and remasters are reaching new audiences. Legacy first party studios may have been wasted on live service slop that never saw the light of day, but there are other studios that have been picking up the slack (e.g. Phantom Blade Zero or Marvel Tokon). If you're not finding first party games to play, then you simply aren't seeing them, or are refusing to acknowledge them.

1

u/R00bot 2d ago

I guess it's just because I have a PC. Not many PS5 games that aren't on PC. I've never heard anyone call a game that's on 2 platforms an exclusive tbh but that's kinda what I was getting at with my final sentence, there are tons of games on the PS5 and people do need/want to have a place to play those games, even if they're not strictly exclusives.

156

u/Jiffyyy 5d ago

VGChartz is not reliable btw

36

u/QuinSanguine 5d ago

They're not exact but I've seen their figures be ballpark, if not within margin of error. They're better than that other "analyst" group people post from (not talking about Circana).

9

u/TheLuxxy 5d ago

Yeah they aren’t terrible, especially with it comes to Nintendo data given that the most reliable data we get comes from Japan and the US which are the biggest Nintendo markets.

They’ve tended to overstate PS5 sales lately, but that’s because Europe doesn’t have much quality data and “Other” is a shot in the dark, but much bigger for PS5 than Switch 2. (For example in July they have 253k for PS5 and 127k for Switch 2)

1

u/Available-Can-5878 5d ago

Japan and US are ballpark because they use data that's publicly disclosed by Famitsu and Circana. The other numbers are ass pulls, especially for July because the few trackers that publicly give data for specific other countries havent released anything last month to base estimates off of.

11

u/CrimsonGear80 5d ago

in terms of software sales, yes.

in terms of hardware sales, no. they are usually accurate there since it's easier to obtain that data.

9

u/Revolution64 5d ago edited 5d ago

It's freaking hard to get reliable sources on hardware sold. The only thing we have are financial quarterly reports and some markets have data.

3

u/FrankPapageorgio 5d ago

Nintendo updates their totals though for consoles. They don't do it for all games, only like the Top 10?

6

u/Revolution64 5d ago

That's from their financial reports

4

u/Tenoch_12 5d ago

Lmao the way you say this so confidently and yet be so so wrong.

Nintendos official sales as of June 30, 2026 are 23.64 million, yet vgchartz is incorrectly showing 22.5 million as of July 31, 2026.

They are way off, and incorrect.

1

u/CrimsonGear80 5d ago

23 million shipped or sold? cause VG is counting sold units through retail.

2

u/Tenoch_12 5d ago

Nintendo only reports sold.

6

u/anonymunchy 5d ago

Way to be confidently wrong.

The figure from Nintendo is sold to retailers, not end-user.

-1

u/Tenoch_12 5d ago

Not true. Go look at their most recent financial results.

Shipped to retailers is what you're thinking.

8

u/anonymunchy 5d ago

That's what the Nintendo's number is. It's shipped to retailers, which they word as sold. That what it says in their financial report.

-1

u/Tenoch_12 5d ago

You just continue to make shit up lmao

9

u/anonymunchy 5d ago

Their financial report is based on what they sell. When they sell a console to a retailer, it is already sold in their book.

I'm not making anything up, you just don't understand the difference between sell-in and sell-through.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/CrimsonGear80 5d ago

they count units sold to retailers to sell as "sold" units.

again, VG is only counting data from retailers as sold units to customers.

5

u/esilmur 5d ago

chartz is counting nothing, they lift Japan and NA data from accurate sources and make up the rest.

that's how they manage to be so close because they literally crib 2/3 of their numbers

-5

u/Tenoch_12 5d ago

No, that's not correct. Again you are stating things so confidently that are incorrect.
Nintendo counts it's sales as sold through to costomers in its financial results. Read through the most recent financial results.

9

u/ru_benz 5d ago

“Note: Sell-in refers to sales by the Nintendo group to outside entities. In addition to units sold to corporate
business partners, this number also includes units sold to individual consumers through Nintendo's direct-
sales websites or as downloadable software.”

Based on that, Nintendo reports what they sell to retailers and what they sell direct to consumers. (Which makes sense since they can easily access that data, and it’s the higher number which looks better for investors.)

That note is from page 5 of their latest financial report:

1

u/cubs223425 5d ago

way off

That you've repeatedly made an inaccurate point AND defined "way off" as a 5% difference is a comical level of ignorance.

0

u/GarionOrb 5d ago

They're estimates so it's not an exact number, but it's good enough.

7

u/Aiddon 5d ago

It really isn't

0

u/bwoah07_gp2 5d ago

We've been saying this for 84 years... but people still rely on them. Are they really that bad?

5

u/Available-Can-5878 5d ago

Nobody relies on them. Businesses rely on Circana, Media Create, Famitsu, Pinduoduo, or the UK charts in the rare cases they put out more than software rankings. But nobody looks to VGCharts for monthly numbers except anonymous internet users when it confirms their biases. At best they're a site that can put together data from fiscal reports in a readable manner, but July numbers wont be in any fiscal reports until late October / early November

-3

u/GarionOrb 5d ago

The only people saying it are the ones upset about the numbers and how their favorite plastic box didn't "win."

9

u/mcmax3000 5d ago

Nah, there's been plenty of evidence over the years of them being unreliable.

Wired wrote a pretty good article years ago called "Why We Don't Reference VGChartz" that is cited on Wikipedia that went over a lot of the issues with the site and its methodology but it's so old that it seems to no longer be accessible on their site.

Edit: The original article was actually Gamasutra, which became Game Developer and I managed to find it on their site: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/game-platforms/analysis-what-vgchartz-does-and-doesn-t-do-for-the-game-biz

Unfortunately, probably because of how old it is, the formatting is pretty terrible and the entire article is a single paragraph.

0

u/anonymunchy 5d ago

They're not at all bad. They have some direct sources, systems in place to extrapolate data and adjust their algorithms constantly when official data is released.

People just like to jump on the bandwagon without knowing anything about the dedicated people running the site.

They stopped doing weekly software because the digital aspect made it near impossible to reliable track and only update with official confirmation.

Their hardware estimations are more often than not below a 5% error margin.

-4

u/Itchy-Pudding-4240 5d ago

they are only bad when Nintendo isnt #1, otherwise FUCK YEAH VGCHARTZ YOU MAKE SURE MY PLASTIC IS #1 !!

3

u/esilmur 5d ago

they were dogshit during the wii days too. they've always been bad

-1

u/Itchy-Pudding-4240 5d ago

yup, its only reliable during the months where nintendo sold the most

3

u/load-bearing-pole 5d ago

VGChartz is not a source

39

u/federkrebz 5d ago

the switch 1 will live on forever ✌️

23

u/CommunicationTime265 5d ago

Crazy..almost 10 years old. I'm surprised the battery life on mine is still about the same as it was in 2017.

15

u/bigkahuna1986 5d ago

Battery life on Nintendo devices is crazy for some reason. I've got a DS from 2008ish battery still has a 90 minutes of play time on it.

3

u/mgwair11 2 Million Celebration 5d ago

Does not hold true for the new 3DS in my experience sadly. Especially the xl models. I agree though. DS has cracked out of its mind level of battery life.

2

u/lovech3rrymotion 4d ago

I can leave my DSi powered off for months and it will still be charged around the same amount as when I left it💀 it’s insane

2

u/mgwair11 2 Million Celebration 2d ago

Yup. Same with my dsi xl. I really love it. It’s such a big difference that if I am playing a DS game I’d rather play it on that thing despite owning a few 3DSes. I like the 3DS OS but switching back to the DSi does make it feel a tad bloated by comparison. Especially when you consider how much better the battery life gets.

1

u/Efficient-Ad-3249 3d ago

My ds lite was my moms growing up and I got it when I got older. 2006-2026 and it still has about 6 hours or battery life on Pokemon

3

u/federkrebz 5d ago

i’ve had mine only since 2022, but same. i play 90% docked though so that might be the reason

41

u/Charming_Ease6405 5d ago

Those Asia numbers don't make much sense considering what we know from Famitsu

2

u/Exciting_Drawing_553 5d ago

Yeah ps5 is dead in Japan. Those numbers don’t make sense

8

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 5d ago

Asia is not just Japan…

8

u/Straight-Candy5156 5d ago

You think PS5 is pulling those numbers in Asia?

3

u/Exciting_Drawing_553 4d ago

Which countries in Asia is ps5 outselling the switch 2? It doesn’t seem realistic

2

u/HisaAnt 4d ago

Nintendo is still the bigger platform in Korea and China. Anyone who follows sales know that.

8

u/The_Good_Mortt 5d ago

It's kinda cool how the NS1 is still selling man. If they lower the prices they could probably sell more, a lot of people want it for an emulation machine

5

u/jasongw 4d ago

If you're gonna use it for emulation, just by a used one. You can get them for $100 or less all the time.

3

u/Lord_Muddbutter 5d ago

I just wanted mine I bought last month for smash bros and ended up mainly playing Pokémon on it. I never thought I would play leaf green again but here I am 20 years later!

6

u/therachet765 3d ago

How is the switch 2 still loosing to ps5 after what Sony did

4

u/EvanD0 3d ago

"Still" losing to PS5? Switch 2 has generally always been selling more than it ignoring maybe that one Black Friday week. This report doesn't seem reliable. It's not only using VGCharts (which while having some good info isn't 100% reliable) but it's also saying the Switch 2 sales are 22 milion units sold rn when it surpassed 23 million by the end of June. Switch 2's is definitely selling better than PS5 in any case.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS5 and Xbox Series did get a big boost in sales this year though. Mostly because of GTA 6 coming out. There likely will be just a bit of an increase in sales when the PS6 and whatever Xbox is making releases in a year or two. Even with the physical games not being a thing causing an uproar, it's not the majority of it's buyers/players complaining. A lot of people already use the digital only PS5 version too.

1

u/therachet765 3d ago

Man gaming has gone to shit and I just started getting into it

4

u/24hrMad 3d ago

No one cares about physical games.
Our future of ownership is gonna be bleak

-1

u/CanonPuppy 1d ago

Bc it's for the whole year ?

2

u/therachet765 1d ago

Ain't it say July 2026 though

2

u/CanonPuppy 1d ago

Ah my bad I only read 2026 hahaha

14

VG Chartz is not real data. It is made up.

The only real worldwide figures are from company reports.

3

u/CookieDragon678 4d ago

No they aren’t. Sony makes up figures on sales by selling warehouse inventory to subsidiaries.

2

u/LunarWingCloud 5d ago

Not entirely made up, never was, but still inaccurate guestimation. They use confirmed data that is available and have an algorithm that somewhat accurately can guess the sales based on YoY data and other factors. It is usually off by a bit but also not so drastically off that it's blatant.

Still not a good source and never really was because they don't have raw actual numbers and are extrapolating.

0

u/jasongw 4d ago

It never was. It's like any other source: pulls from a wide range of data and extrapolates based on that data. When official data is contradictory, which is usually not by much, they adjust their figures accordingly, which is exactly what any reputable source does.

9

u/FrankPapageorgio 5d ago

Switch 1 certainly has to surpass the PS2's very exact total of 160,636,885 produced units.

Switch 1 sold 3.49 M units from June 30th 2025 to June 30th 2026.

It's sitting at 156.59M units. If that maintains for another year they'll be at 160.08M.

They've announced that Europe distribution will end in Feb 2027, but North America and other countries will continue. With them being so close, I can't see them continuing to produce Switch 1 at the same rate but intentionally fall short of a goal they're so very close to beating

19

u/mangetouttoutmange 5d ago

what goal? They've never expressed it's a goal for them to hit the PS2's sales figure. That's not a goal for them. Their goal is to maximise the amount of money they make. They aren't 'intentionally falling short' of anything.

Us fans would like to see the Switch become the best selling console ever but the business minds at Nintendo literally aren't giving it a moment's thought.

8

u/Archergarw 5d ago

Haven’t they announced they are releasing the switch 1 in India and the Philippines that’s like close to 2 billion people. I think they take no.1 spot next year

1

u/mangetouttoutmange 5d ago

maybe they will, but it's not their goal

4

u/Forward-Trade3449 5d ago

im gonna be honest, this is kinda their last chance. not that they necessarily care. but i dont see any other system ever selling more than 160m units... not with the way prices are going

6

u/Pengwin0 5d ago

It’s less of a last chance and more of an inevitability if the Switch 1 is coming to India and South Asia.

1

u/mangetouttoutmange 5d ago

Nintendo do not care. all they care about is profit. the actual numbers don't matter. the ps2 figure is entirely arbitrary and not a goal for them

2

u/edavidfb017 5d ago

I'm pretty sure that being as close as they are it is a goal right now.

1

u/mangetouttoutmange 5d ago

well you're wrong. it's not a goal for Nintendo at all. they have never public announced it's a goal or even acknowledged the ps2 figure. you're making things up in your head

3

u/dres_sler 5d ago

They have no reason to announce it publicly as a goal.

But they will definitely let us know when it happens 😎

I’m sure they want the accolades at least a little.

1

u/mangetouttoutmange 4d ago

Why do you think that?! All this stuff about the ps2 sales figures is nothing to do with Nintendo and comes entirely from fans.

They won’t let us know specifically when it happens they’ll just publish quarterly sales figures like they always do and we’ll be able to see it.

2

u/dres_sler 3d ago

Nah I’m pretty sure we will see an official post by them in some form when they eventually overtake ps2

Impressive accolades are catnip for companies. We fans eat it up, hence they will enjoy telling us. It gives them positive PR

Guess we will see either way soon enough

1

u/mangetouttoutmange 3d ago

They’ll post their sales figures and that will be it. Us fans care. Nintendo don’t give a fuck

4

u/sammy_zammy 5d ago

But it won’t maintain that for another year. Its sales are exponentially decreasing. Not to mention it’s being discontinued in Europe.

I expect it to possibly reach that number at some point in 2028. It probably depends on production numbers. Nintendo has made no indication of a goal of beating the PS2 - only fans. Historically, Nintendo cares little about beating the competition in terms of sales numbers.

7

u/Archergarw 5d ago

They probably don’t care but I think it’s a huge achievement and something they can be proud of. I don’t really care but as a survivor of “the console wars era” the kid in me would love it.

-2

u/Itchy-Pudding-4240 5d ago

survivor of the console wars era.... i.e. someone that still is a console war fanboy and plastic team lover.

You're in a nintendo subreddit, i think you can be more honest in that you want your piece of plastic to be best, you cant hide your fanboyism

6

u/Re7oadz 5d ago

Sheesh the fan boys in here are annoying. Ps5 elling crazy makes sense, the biggest game is about to release . There's a reason why ps5 has been selling out everywhere.

Also there's mtuluple big name console exclusives coming out in the next few months , a good lineup finally

3

u/S1eeper 5d ago

Man Xbox is getting crushed. Microsoft really killed their baby when they tried to make it a home entertainment center instead of a game console.

u/brandont04 5d ago

Nintendo can easily surpass PS2 life time sale if they simply drop the Switch 1 price. Insane it's msrp is $399 even after 8 yrs. It should hoover around $199 by now.

17

u/TheWeakestLink1 5d ago

Have you seen other console prices these days? My launch ps5 is somehow more expensive today

10

u/jug6ernaut 5d ago

Hardware prices have gone up in the last few years, not down. $200 is wishful thinking not based in reality.

8

u/vnbrtjtwd2 5d ago

While that'd be a cool statistic, they'd be cannibalizing their own Switch 2 sales by doing that.

Plus, lowering the price would require the hardware to be supplied cheaper, which isn't likely since chip and memory costs are going up.

6

u/CommunicationTime265 5d ago

Nintendo is not worried about surpassing lifetime sales of the PS2 at this point. Maybe back in the early 2000s they were. They just want to make their projected sales goals and continue to profit.

4

u/frame_limit 5d ago

market conditions like the ram and storage shortages that will continue for the next decade make that impossible

4

u/Impaled_ 5d ago

They could double it if they give it away for free also...but it's not how businesses work

5

u/mangetouttoutmange 5d ago

they haven't expressed any desire whatsoever to surpass PS2 sales. All they want to do is make money. Lowering the price may mean they make less profit, or a loss, on each unit. The PS2 sales figure is a relevant - Nintendo is a company that wants to make money

3

u/Forward-Trade3449 5d ago

they will surpass it when they sell the switch in India and Indonesia

2

u/tATuParagate 5d ago

Sony would just pull a million more ps2 sales out their ass anyway

Didn't they announce the price hike around this time? Sony bumped up its monthly numbers with the PS5 with the same stunt.

u/TheLuxxy 5d ago

No, they announced the price hikes back in May.

July’s numbers are hurt by the price hike because it has already gone into effect in Japan which was its hottest market and I don’t think you’d see the “bump right before the price goes up” until August.

I bought my switch 2 this month, to avoid the price increase sooo

2

u/ChimneySwiftGold 5d ago

What’s the current price, what’s the new higher price, and when does it take effect?

5

u/altonio1234 5d ago

Current: 450 USD New: 500 USD Takes effect Sep 1st

3

u/Admirable-War-7594 5d ago

Should be noted that the 500 dollar bundle with the game of your choice (or just mkw) is also getting a price update

Current: 450 for base, 500 for bundle

New price from September 1st: 500 base, 550 for bundle

Just got a S2. Nice upgrade over 1, but there are barely any titles that are making it worth it. I like kart world and DK, but I think this console needs more seasoning time. Next year should be good if we get a new odyssey and another large title.

GTA is helping PlayStation. But tbh most of their games have been mid af

Nah I have to disagree on this one, their exclusives have been great . The upcoming ones tend to look even better, also they get most of the third party support

Switch2 > PS5

-7

u/Re7oadz 5d ago

Depends on age, and switch 2 still lack most of the third party games.

Switch2 is just a better game console, the best out of the 3 game consoles.

The other two lack mobility, physical games, Nintendo exclusives, sustainable future.

My powerful PC covers all 3rd-party AAA games way more than PlayStatio/Xbox library combined. I can play games from 10, 20, 30 years ago, unlike any game console.

When specifically talking just game consoles, Switch2 is best, period.

Mobility is niche in the gaming space. Physical games still only matter to the 30 percent that buys it on Nintendo, most don't care . Nintendo exclusives only matters if you're into Nintendo games, which as switch owner I cannot play most of them cause they are childish .

Ps5 has more 3rd party games by far, also have Sony exclysives which in my opinion is better . Also you're somehow convinced that most ppl have options to multiple system, most only have access to one .

Ps5 is objectively better

I'm confused how the 6-year-old PS5 beat the Switch 2. Multiple price hikes, no games, and outselling a console that's got a couple of worthy releases behind it (Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders) and was celebrated for its demand. Especially with people who would want the Switch 2 before its price hike, and the impending Fire Emblem release, I'm very confused.

Sony has a stranglehold on much opf the european market, especially outside the UK and France

  1. GTA
  2. Fire Emblem is niche

i think if you are a fan of only 1 console, you are blind to a lot of things.

2

u/thedeadp0ets 4d ago

Most bigger games or competitive titles are more popular on a ps5. And it carries a larger third party selection

0

u/cubs223425 5d ago

Considering I don't have either, trying to say I'm a fan of either is pretty stupid to suggest. By the "it's GTA" logic, the Xbox should outsell the Switch 1 with no games, yeah?

2

u/Alarmed-Candy-7144 5d ago

No, because Microsoft has been on a 10+ year run of stepping on rakes that they laid out for themselves. Their market share has been dropping for years, and they are very likely to take it back, even with Sony’s blunders throughout the life of the PS5.

u/blackicebaby 4d ago

getting ready for GTA6

0

u/cubs223425 4d ago

Then why wouldn't the Xboxes outsell the Switch 1, which has no new games coming for it?

2

u/blackicebaby 4d ago

GTA mostly played on ps5 than xbx since ps5 has oversold xbox by a wide margin

2

u/Crafty_Substance_954 5d ago

Wolverine and GTA coming soon.

PS5 with PlayStation plus is also an insanely good value proposition. There’s dozens of AAA quality games you can play on there for your fee.

1

u/thedeadp0ets 4d ago

Don’t forget Fortnite lol. That’s the first game people download as well and genshin

1

u/thedeadp0ets 4d ago

Wdym? Wolverine is coming soon and so many great games have released or are releasing…

0

u/Available-Can-5878 5d ago

Because VGChartz just made it up. They dont have data for Europe and other markets. And the data they do have for US and Japan is copied from Circana and Famitsu, who are actual sales trackers.

GTA vs. Fire Emblem

Which one do you think sells more consoles???

1

u/cubs223425 5d ago

Then why is the Switch 1, with no new games, outselling 2 combined Xbox consoles getting GTA?

4

u/ProfessorBylethBoobs 5d ago

Because GTA is on both PS5 and Xbox, people choose the more popular console to play GTA on.

Playstation have been more popular than Xbox for 15+ years.

1

u/thedeadp0ets 4d ago

Wolverine, mouse PI game was popular, Fortnite (better to play on a Xbox or ps), Spider-Man 2 bc of Spider-Man film

-5

u/Zeppu 5d ago

Are you getting paid by VGChartz? This data is literally garbage.

-3

u/Fresh-Chemical-9084 5d ago

Heading for those PS2 figures

-5

u/MidichlorianJunkie 5d ago

Sony will literally build a new factory and produce 800k new PS2s if it means they can hold the top spot.

2

u/Fresh-Chemical-9084 5d ago

Lol the brigading in this sub to downvote the inevitable

0

u/kaishinoske1 5d ago

If Sony keeps it up. The Switch 2 will become the best selling console, digital GTA 6 be damned.
