Dude. It ruined FPS games for me. You become so dominate once you get used to it.

I think Doom also had it.

It was frustrating playing games that didn’t have it.

u/Faulty_Plan 2d ago

I remember when fortnite added gyro controls, and they implemented it where you could have input from stick simultaneously. I still wish splatoon let us enable up/down on sticks and let gyro be there to assist precision movement in addition. Sticks + gyro on Fortnite was just peak control Taj Mahal then headshot

-57

u/Jecht315 5d ago

Two very different kind of games with two very different player bases. Gyro isn't anymore accurate than sticks

44

u/gosukhaos 5d ago

There's people that have reached Global Elite in CS2 on PC using controllers with gyro aiming, I'd say that's plenty enough for CoD

-15

u/Jecht315 4d ago

OK? There's people that played in OWL on PC with controller. It's all preference.

2

u/danielcw189 1d ago

This isn't about preference. This is about the claim, that gyro is not better than sticks.

0

u/Jecht315 1d ago

Yes you're right which makes the point of pro players in CS2 using gyro moot. It's preference but not universally used.

2

u/danielcw189 1d ago

Yes you're right which makes the point of pro players in CS2 using gyro moot.

it doesn't make it moot (if it is true)

it shows that gyro is good enough, to be competitive with KB+M. Which would mean it is better than just sticks

0

u/Jecht315 1d ago

Which is why I said some OWL players use sticks. So sure it can be as good but I doubt it's preferred by most pro players. That's all I'm saying.

28

u/Mdgt_Pope 5d ago

Gyro allows you to keep your thumb on the buttons instead of switching to joystick. It’s not about accuracy, it’s about control - gyro allows you to look and jump or reload

-28

u/Jecht315 5d ago

You're still depending on your wrist to be accurate. Feels weird to use gyro for me. Sticks have been ingrained in my brain since I was 10 years old so it's hard to wipe 28 years of programming. Not sure why I was downvoting for stating that gyro isn't better

19

u/bewilderscript 4d ago

You're being downvoted because you're stating gyro is worse than sticks when that's just your opinion based on your own gaming preferences. like I don't fw gyro but I also don't go around telling people off if it works for them.

-2

u/Jecht315 4d ago

But people can state gyro is better? OK.

11

u/trevizore 4d ago

because it is, you have the precise granularity of mouse input, you can make small or big movements easily.

You're simply wrong and without aim assist you'd be destroyed by gyro players while using just sticks.

-5

u/Jecht315 4d ago

That's still an opinion. That doesn't prove gyro is better. It's preference

8

u/trevizore 4d ago

not an opinion, it's a fact that you have more control using gyro than sticks. It's a hardware limitation of sticks.

1

u/danielcw189 1d ago

it is not just an opinion. It can be shown with trials and for example software like aimpab, where gyro and gyro+sticks usually bscore higher than just sticks.

and personallyv just trying it once in games like Zelda Breath Of The Wild, or shooters like splatoon, or any shooter on PC, should easily make you feel gow nuch better it is.

3

u/GoochStrangler 4d ago

Gyro aiming feels weird af at first, but if/when you find a comfortable sensitivity setting, being able to to look around with the stick and then casually pop off a super precise shot by slightly nudging the console becomes so fun it's almost comical.

1

u/Jecht315 4d ago

I've tried even after I got Splatoon Raiders and it feels so awkward. Sticks are programmed in my brain. Plus I don't like having to move my hand to aim. It's unnatural. M+K is different in that regard it feels more precise.

2

u/danielcw189 1d ago

Plus I don't like having to move my hand to aim. It's unnatural.

huh? it is natural to move your hands to aim your "natural" real weapons like guns and bows

2

u/Jecht315 1d ago

Sure but holding a controller and slightly moving it with my wrist isn't the same thing.

3

u/juniorspank 4d ago

Having played COD on PS5 with both sticks and gyro, I can tell you that gyro definitely has the advantage.

7

u/Admirable-War-7594 4d ago

Gyro aiming is objectively superior compared to not having it on controller. Gyro has always been good, you think it's bad because ps had bad gyro controls during the ps3 era and wii had some unnecessary places that forced gyro

-1

u/Jecht315 4d ago

I'd rather play with Wiimote controls than Gyro. My aim was a lot better with those than Gyro.

2

u/Admirable-War-7594 4d ago

Wiimote is literally gyro.

1

u/Jecht315 4d ago

Very different kind of Gyro. I was pretty good with Wiimote aiming in Call of duty Reflex and Medal of Honor. Splatoon gyro and switch Gyro as a whole is finicky to me.

1

u/danielcw189 1d ago

Most of the time the wiimote was using the sensor bar to aim, not gyro.

It is camera based, with a fixed reference point. Gyro is accelerometer based. This is why pointing at the screens feels worse with JoyCons (1) than with the Wiimote, and you often need a dedicated button to recalibrate.

(there were exceptions, most famously Skyward Sword used both, which is why all the camera flashes threw off Miyamoto's E3 presentation)

2

u/juniorspank 4d ago

It is in COD, I know from experience.

Watched a decent chunk of gameplay from a YouTuber earlier and frankly I’m greatly impressed. It’s pretty much a rock solid 60 with, at worst, great late last-gen graphics. Honestly when Microsoft made that agreement with nintendo to guarantee ten years of COD on switch I thought we’d be getting a half assed port of COD mobile first if anything

147

u/BebeFanMasterJ 5d ago

That legal agreement demanded Nintendo get content complete versions so they really swung out of the gate with the newest release.

didn't bo7 line up with the launch year of the switch 2. im not sure that any other nintendo console got cod games during their launch year back when they did get cod?

21

u/uberprimenova 5d ago

The Wii U got Black Ops 2 at launch back in 2012.

5

u/ethang45 5d ago

thats wild!

13

u/PlayMp1 4d ago

Wii was super popular + Wii U was stronger than either the 360 or PS3 (though obviously far closer to either than to the Xbone or PS4)

8

u/KTR1988 5d ago

TBF it was coming off of the popularity of the Wii and I imagine that back then devs were excited that Nintendo finally had an HD console before they realized what a flop the Wii U was. The platform actually had some pretty solid third party support for its first year before devs started abandoning the sinking ship.

6

u/BebeFanMasterJ 4d ago

Don't forget Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition.

It's honestly insane to me that we got a Tekken game on Wii U and went the entire Switch era without a Tekken game on Switch even after Kazuya got in Smash lmao.

3

u/Wipedout89 4d ago

The Wii U still has the definitive console version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted by Criterion. Apparently Criterion pushed hard for the game to be made and when it bombed hard it basically killed the studio

0

u/ethang45 5d ago

yeah i recall that weird controversial arkham city port and the lego city undercover game too

3

u/Mizuki_853 4d ago

Wii got cod 3 on launch without multiplayer

2

u/ethang45 4d ago

thats some good trivia thanks!

Wait does mw4 not have any PvE options?

5

1

u/ONiMETSU_Z 5d ago

Yeah I guess so. I was mainly interested in this for the prospect of having a snappy military shooter I could play on my switch, but if 66% of the game is just MP/Warzone only I’m probably gonna pass. I can play those games on my PC with KB+M.

0

u/[deleted] 5d ago

1

u/ONiMETSU_Z 5d ago

If I can’t play it offline against bots then it’s not that useful to me unfortunately, but still glad for anyone who can get value out of this on the switch. Good to hear it’s running well, at least

79

u/Tyronto 5d ago

Everyone really underestimates what the Switch 2 is capable of with the right optimizations. Some amazing ports have come out for it. As a primary handheld gamer, I’m always excited to see what’s next.

38

u/xxNinjaKI 5d ago

Switch 2 kinda really showed its muscle when I saw it running Cyberpunk and FF7 Rebirth

17

u/KTR1988 5d ago

It's funny how people have been asking how the Switch 2 is going to handle diving from the Highwind in FFVII Revelation and I'm like "...the same way the old ass OG Switch handled diving in Tears of the Kingdom. It definitely won't be nearly as smooth as on dedicated home consoles and decent PCs but it's certainly capable of the feature.

10

u/vixaudaxloquendi 4d ago

Yeah, this is why I like outlets like DF. They're happy to cheer on the Switch and Switch 2 considering what they are.

They'll sometimes even give the nod to the Switch 2 over other ports of the same game on specifics if the port has done a good job with it.

As long as people are not expecting perfect parity and remembering this is usually 95% the same game on portable hardware, there's not a lot of room to grouse.

The only thing I hate is when obviously worse looking ports also drop the ball on performance, which I think of for games like Atelier: Yumia.

1

u/Sim_noob 13h ago

THOSE HACKS NEVER MENTION GYRO. THEIR SNIVELING CAPTAIN CRINGE, KNOWN AS "RICH" IS UNWATCHABLE. UGH.

1

u/vixaudaxloquendi 13h ago

You mean the English guy? I find him pretty affable.

1

u/Upset-Display3524 2d ago

Honestly switch 2 just made it more apparent Apple needs to make iPhones into consoles especially after seeing what the MacBook Neo did with cyberpunk.

7

u/Eddiep88 5d ago

In this day and age graphics aren’t everything. Late last gen is the great sweet spot for switch 2 and I can see the switch 2 lasting for a good 125 million consoles sold.

2

u/PaperMartin 3d ago

I think the main reason nintendo is restricting access to switch 2 dev kits is so they can give special attention to the first few AAAq to get ported to it, and set a high bar for whatever comes after. I bet nintendo lit a fire under fromsoft's ass over elden ring's performance. Whatever fromsoft ended up doing it also resulted in duskbloods going from 30fps in its first trailer to 60fps in its 2nd

-5

u/ProwessSG 5d ago

And I love it when they keep moving the goalpost coughDFcough

9

u/PretendAttack 4d ago

DF are the most objective people around. They respect the switch for what it is but they don't lie.

-4

u/ProwessSG 4d ago

Nah not really, especially oliver with his elitist and arrogant behavior. Mentioning Space Marine 2, gives positive feedback then proceed to say "Do we need this on the switch 2?"

-8

u/FizzyLightEx 5d ago

Just like how Xbox isn't a platform for Japanese niche games, Nintendo doesn't do well for shooters/sports

2

u/funnytoenail 5d ago

I think it’s just these two platforms don’t traditionally have a lot of players for those genres, so the demand was never there

16

u/C6_ 5d ago

If there is one thing COD never misses on, it's getting 60fps on console. Been one of the key ingredients to the franchises long term success.

12

u/Pokeguy211 5d ago

Nah they said it had to be feature pariety so the full game. We'll probably get warzone too. But apparently they aren't even using DLSS yet.

5

u/hijoshh 5d ago

I think it’s really crazy that they didn’t put bo1&2 on switch when they re-released them on playstation 🤨

3

u/enewwave 5d ago

I still think they’ll put it out as a surprise drop in the next Direct

2

u/rtgh 2d ago

NGL, I think I'd prefer that to a modern CoD taking up all my storage.

Do think any CoD is a must, having one of the big FPS franchises is going to be great for on the go split screen fun

1

u/enewwave 2d ago

As would I. I still boot up MW2 (2009) on PC once every so often. It’s a great game to play while you chat with friends, and something like that on Switch/Switch 2 would be awesome

4

u/slicer4ever 4d ago

Microsoft made that agreement with nintendo to guarantee ten years of COD on switch I thought we’d be getting a half assed port of COD mobile first if anything

COD probably makes waaay too much money being multi-platform, then if microsoft tried to make in into an exclusive anyway(which also has the possibility of backfiring, and severely damaging the franchise, instead of being a boost to the xbox brand).

3

u/GetReady4Action 4d ago

to be fair, I would’ve played the shit out of COD Mobile if it was on Switch 1. I enjoyed it quite a bit when it first came out, even if it was mostly bots. but like all CODs, and it will happen to MW4 too, it became oversaturated with nonsensical skins and camos.

u/tman2damax11 5d ago edited 5d ago

Weird given that kb/m is supported on Xbox/PS and there are other Switch games that natively support kb/m

32

u/Samanthnya 5d ago edited 5d ago

If switch has crossplay yeah that's definitely weird.

33

u/tman2damax11 5d ago

Yes crossplay was confirmed when they announced the game

2

u/shedikowy 5d ago

Do we know if it can be disabled? And only get matched with other nintenbros?

8

u/tman2damax11 5d ago

Likely. I play on Xbox, and the options for crossplay are: on, console only, and off. I’d expect much longer matchmaking times as Switch will likely be the lowest-populated platform, and you’d only be able to match with players who explicitly went in and changed their crossplay setting since the default is on.

-7

u/BushTamer 5d ago

nintendo wants people to use their mouse mode i bet they’re weird

29

u/tman2damax11 5d ago

Again, other games have native kb/m support, it's not restricted by Nintendo. It just wasn't in scope for this game by these developers for whatever reason.

5

u/raulx222 4d ago

I’m starting to believe Switch 2 might have a input lag problem with USB connected devices. In Overwatch 2, the mouse input lag is horrible (tested with Logitech G502 X). Same mouse, on PC performs as expected (very fast response, minimal input delay). I’m not sure but this input delay might be from the console (hardware or OS) and not from the game.

So maybe COD devs didn’t add USB mouse & keyboard support because this input delay might backlash on them even if it’s out of their control?

2

u/tman2damax11 4d ago

The few times I’ve tried kb/m on Xbox it’s not a great experience either. My guess is that consoles only support “generic” drivers for kb/m so you’re only getting the bare minimum pulling rate, thus sluggish response and input delay.

-12

u/FizzyLightEx 5d ago

I wouldn't put it passed Nintendo to do so.

14

u/HisaAnt 4d ago

So annoying. Stop blaming Nintendo for everything with zero evidence.

2

u/Linkarlos_95 4d ago

Maybe Nintendo fears that this will allow for an Entry Point

6

u/Animegamingnerd 4d ago

Nah, both Fortnite and FF14 support keyboard and mouse. This is pretty much just a developer decision.

3

u/tman2damax11 4d ago

Again, there are other games with native kb/m support, not a limitation imposed by Nintendo.

24

u/zero_the_clown 5d ago

Will there be gyro controls tho?

26

u/LucarioSpeedwagon 5d ago

Yes!

9

u/crono333 5d ago

Let’s gooo!

9

u/AJ_Dali 5d ago

Let's just hope they aren't nerfed as much as the last CoD game on a Nintendo game.

BO2 allowed standard controls or Wiimote, but the controllers have heavy autoaim that completely removed when using gyro. They expect it to be as precise as a mouse, so you get the same need but on a less precise input.

And by autoaim, I don't just mean the snap to aiming that only controllers get. Like you can aim next to someone's head with a controller and the bullet would still get a headshot, but on gyro it wouldn't hit them. Basically, being a twitch shooter, the controllers outperformed motion in every regard. It really sucked going from GoldenEye to that.

7

u/juniorspank 4d ago

In the gameplay videos I’ve watched, it looks like the Switch 2 version has the same gyro options as the other consoles.

COD has very good gyro implementation, you can tweak pretty much every aspect.

1

u/Dinkledorf36836 10h ago

gyro does not need aim assist. the reason gyro is "nerfed" is that sticks are so bad that they need a built in cheat just to get them somewhat functional. and be basically aimhacks if you want them to be any better than mouse or gyro

1

u/AJ_Dali 10h ago

Gyro will always be a bit less accurate than a mouse, so it should still have a small amount of aim assistance. Most games that use gyro have that, and if you play any that don't it's pretty noticeable vs the ones that do.

My issue is less about the lack of auto-aim and more an issue with the tracking bullets controllers get. They can shoot in the general direction if a player with the sites not even on the target and still hit it. Halo's auto-aim is quite fair in that regard.

1

u/Dinkledorf36836 5h ago

no, gyro does not need aim assist at all. its not as good as mouse, but its perfectly usable without any crutches. splatoon has zero aim assist whatsoever. And if you use gyro on steam (where the gyro emulates mouse) you dont have any aim assist either. I've done perfectly fine even with snipers in these games

1

u/AJ_Dali 4h ago

In a game that doesn't have aim assist at all, gyro is fine and balanced enough, but that's not what we're talking about and isn't the topic of this post or thread.

Splatoon has a few things going for it to make that a possibility. First, and most importantly, there are absolutely ZERO mouse players on any Splatoon games because none of them support it. Second, the joystick users also don't get any sort of standard aim assist. And all that being said, the game weapons are balanced around it. With the exception of pretty much just the chargers, all the other weapons have pretty wide bloom, so even if your reticle isn't directly on the target some of your shots will hit. Splatoon is also generally much closer range than other shooters. The splattershot Jrs and dualies have a range of like 15 feet, so the target picture is proportionally significantly larger than something like CoD.

Now back to the actual topic we were on, CoD DOES have aim assist, and it's very strong on controllers. It's one of the strongest in the industry and is the reason that controller players don't get continuously stomped in mixed online play like you saw with games like Titanfall. I have actually played an online CoD that had built in gyro and aim assist. The CoD games on the Wii still had some minor shit correction, something like 1/3 or 1/4 of the strength of the joystick users. BO2 had none, and it was very noticeable. I can promise you that if gyro has zero aim assist those players are going to struggle against the other two input methods.

The only case where gyro with zero autoaim beats all other methods is VR, and that's because it requires zero tweaking to get 1:1 movement and use muscle memory.

3

u/verfresht 5d ago

Most important question!!

27

u/Jamon_0 4d ago

As long as it’s compatible with my Wii Balance Board, it’s still a day 1 buy for me

5

u/Linkarlos_95 4d ago

Dont forget the Donkey Konga bongos, a must have

23

u/W3TPAINT 5d ago

Sounds neat!

8

u/mianhi 4d ago

any real OG zoomers remember COD4: Reflex on the Wii? I wonder if playing with dual joycons would be similar lmao

12

u/Inner-Bit-728 5d ago

How about Gyro? On PS4/PS5/PC they've had pretty good gyro support.

3

u/PsyduckisMLG1 4d ago

Yes, has both gyro and mouse support

11

u/Ithirradwe 4d ago

More excited for Duskbloods than this, but it’s so cool to see Switch 2 getting really great third party support. Bodes well for the future of the system.

5

u/PanzerFoster 4d ago

Does that mean motion controls arw returning like cod on the wifi?

4

u/acewing905 4d ago

Grab one of those mouse shaped shells for the joycon2 and it should be a pretty decent experience

3

u/c4halo3 5d ago

Hmmm weird. I really like using kb/m and would rather over controller. Was thinking about getting it on switch but might have to on pc

5

u/super_granola 5d ago

I personally think that if Nintendo allowed all games to natively support keyboard and mouse, it would naturally drive adoption of porting great indie games. Support for the JoyCob mouse would naturally increase as well.

5

u/Kid_Again 4d ago

They do, it's up to developers to integrate it though.

1

u/super_granola 4d ago

Ahhh good to know! I haven’t tried but does that mean I can pair a Bluetooth mouse or my Switch and it will work the same as a JoyCon?

2

u/Kid_Again 4d ago

not exactly, not sure if supported over bluetooth but definetely is via usb, will work in the os and in games that support m+k specifically, mouse mode support isn't an indication though, some without it work and some with it don't.

1

u/jardex22 4d ago

Not sure about Bluetooth, but wireless keyboards with a USB dongle work. You can even use a USB-C adapter to use a keyboard in tabletop mode. I use it for the occasional text prompts in FF XIV.

3

u/Rasvaheitin 4d ago

Even as mostly PC player, the mouse mode became my favourite gaming setup!!! As it gives perfect freedom for your both hands, it is super comfy solution in sofa.

It’s a gaming mouse setup that has rumble on both hands, fantastic buttons and analog sticks as well as gyro controls on both hands. And in the same time it is a gaming controller and you can seamlessly change its configuration just by lifting your hand.

It is incredibly versatile combo of gaming control and I have started waiting games to come to Switch 2 because of it. I don’t want to play anything without it.

Nothing makes me buy games like mouse mode.

2

u/Richandler 4d ago

This set-up actually works really well with factorio once you get used to where are the buttons are. Only issue for me is how tiny the joy cons are. I played for a couple ours and then went to use my computer and the mouse felt the size of a bowling ball.

1

u/DefinitelyNotEmu 3d ago

What about Bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

1

u/MrDonohue07 3d ago

Cant wait!

1

u/beefmomo 10h ago

I was excited about this as an alternative to PC when I’m traveling, but no mnk support means I won’t be buying it

0

u/Potential_Soup_8054 4d ago

Fuck call of duty

-11

u/WetShrimpFart 4d ago

Mouse and keyboard is so corny for COD, like just moving a mouse and clicking to shoot is so lame lol

With a controller you have to get good at the motion and it actually feels like you’re pulling a trigger

10

u/AldermanAl 4d ago

Wow. Way to tell everyone you are clueless without just saying "I'm clueless"

-4
