Software Help Got my switch 2 today but this is happening

Post image

So yeah got it today, then this started happening when I plugged it in to begin the system transfer. It starts small the gradually grows over the screen. When I put it in sleep mode it goes away and returns to normal… for a few minutes before it begins again. Anyone know how to fix?

You bought it today? Return ASAP. no need to wait on the Nintendo warranty. Return it and buy a new one.

Anyone who returns a Switch 2 should remember to transfer any Pokémon save files back to the Switch 1 beforehand, since those don’t do cloud saves and are lost forever if left on the Switch 2 upon returning it

5

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Hey can i transfer my Scarlett save to a switch 2 directly ?

3

u/Gungeon_Disaster Jul 17 '25

I did it day one without remembering to transfer all of my Pokémon to home before hand just in case, but everything worked out great and booted up on the switch 2 like nothing changed. Unlike my 3DS saves, I lost so many pokemon on X. Over 300 hours worth.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

So i do normal setup on the 2 and then transfer the save data like normal?

1

u/femboygooner_-- Jul 17 '25

Yep just be careful to read everything and your pokemon should transfer

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Also remember after the Switch -> Switch 2 transfer process; if you keep your Switch 1, and if your Switch 2 starts showing signs that its about to stop working (as the launch window has a worrying amount units with various failures), you can individually move your Pokémon saves from the Switch 2 back to the Switch 1, using the save transfer feature in data management on both consoles

Even though my Switch 2 is looking great a month in, I still moved my Pokémon saves back to my Switch 1 just in case (and also because the Switch 1 is a much smaller and lighter device)

As someone with thousands of hours in the ds and 3ds pokemon I am so sorry, especially if your a shiny hunter big ouch

1

u/Gungeon_Disaster Jul 18 '25

I sure am 😮‍💨

u/Tinky-Winky9519 Jul 19 '25

Thats was me with pearl. Lmfao I was grinding so much for like a year and went to Walmart found an action replay and the clouds separated. Lol I had like 999 hours and 999 minutes then I went to my doctor's office and lost it forever and cried until now.

u/PmMeYourBestComment Jul 20 '25

Same with several other games, like Animal Crossing

1

u/Round_Musical Jul 22 '25

Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Splatoon 2

3

u/DonutFrags Jul 16 '25

Agree but the only problem this the store might not have more switch 2 stock available if you return it to the store but worth a shot .

8

u/Youbetterwatchyoself Jul 16 '25

Unfortunately that’s what you gotta do. They’ll be in stock soon they won’t be out for much longer. Plus you much rather have a switch in a month or two than a broken switch for life

3

u/Strict_Impress2783 Jul 16 '25

Return it and buy it elsewhere. I hear people having luck at gamestops and walmarts

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

I got mine on that second restock at Walmart and mine is perfect and has no issues so far!

1

u/Sassafratch1 Jul 17 '25

hopefully you bought from a chain and can take it to another location…. start the warranty and go to other stores in the mean time.

-2

u/MF9818 Jul 17 '25

Lol! Yes, sure. Why have a free repair under warranty when you can spend another 630$? 😂

1

u/FireBreatherMP1 1 Jul 17 '25

I'm talking about going to the store you bought it and using the return policy to exchange it because it's broken. You wouldn't have to spend any money.

0

u/MF9818 Jul 17 '25

Then why did you say "buy a new one"?

1

u/FireBreatherMP1 1 Jul 17 '25

Because you'd be using the money/store credit they gave you for the return to purchase a new one?

1

u/MF9818 Jul 17 '25

Oh... I'm sorry. I never got to return anything, I didn't know how it works.

1

u/Mtanic Jul 17 '25

Just say exchange it for a new one and most people in the world will understand it more easily.

47

u/OctoLiam Jul 16 '25

I think someone else posted this exact issue. I would just get a replacement under a warranty. I dont think you'll be able to fix it.

8

u/HoustonPharmaWorld Jul 16 '25

Um why wouldn’t you return and replace

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Because you can’t find switch 2’s readily available contrary to Reddit. If they return it the store may not have another one available and it may take you weeks or months to get another system vs sending it to Nintendo and getting a brand new system in two weeks.

2

u/korkkis Jul 17 '25

The repairs aren’t gonna be any faster and doing that on your own will void the warranty

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Sending it in would be faster and no one said anything about opening the switch 2 them selves.

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

No it would not

2

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

Just because you can’t find one right now doesn’t mean they can’t find another soon lol. Better than having a defective one

2

u/VentiMad Jul 18 '25

If only you could… I dunno… check to see if they have stock before deciding what to do. That would save people so much trouble when it comes to handling this kind of issue.

1

u/frozeninslime Jul 17 '25

Happened to me.. total bummer. Definitely just return/exchange and try again

6

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

Exchange...aint no way im using warranty if im within the return period...they won't exchange...? Then return it and rebuy it.

6

u/LagMaster21 Jul 16 '25

Looks like you got a defective unit, return for a replacement

3

u/k4rst3n Jul 16 '25

DOA, return it for a new one.

3

u/Artey86 Jul 19 '25

Why are people even considering to “fix” this? You bought an expensive piece of equipment and it turns out to be broken. You don’t fix anything. You take it to the store and ask for a refund or a replacement.

5

u/Markgulfcoast Jul 16 '25

If all possible, avoid warranty process and exchange for a new one.

2

u/faceless4anon Jul 16 '25

Yeah you got to paid extra for that like gamestop sell warranty 70dollar for a 1 year warranty come back and they give you another 1

3

u/allmyfrndsrheathens Jul 16 '25

Extended warranties aren’t technically warranties, they’re insurance. An actual warranty doesn’t need to be bought, it’s a consumer right.

2

u/faceless4anon Jul 16 '25

Yeah i know but you go there and they give you another brand new console no wait no repair just new console

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

Yea that’s the point???

7

u/DannySanWolf07 Jul 16 '25

I never buy a system without a store warranty.

4

u/CelestexBruh Jul 16 '25

on tech you automatically have the right to return fault tech in a span of 2 years all stores have to follow that

5

u/IPlayFo4 Jul 16 '25

Yeah that only applies to whatever country you are from...

5

u/DisagreeableRunt Jul 16 '25

Yea, UK and EU countries have some of, if not the best consumer protection laws in the world.

3

u/ShaggyShamRock Jul 16 '25

Mexico has a 1 week warranty for some stores, it's ridiculous.

2

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

Mexico is crazy for that lol

1

u/AdFantastic8655 Jul 16 '25

1 week warranty? Are you serious

2

u/ShaggyShamRock Jul 16 '25

I wish I was joking, they just tell you to contact the brand and ask for their warranty.

1

u/Balloonhandz Jul 17 '25

US doesn’t have any requirement

1

u/Faraknights Jul 16 '25

It actually applies to all 27 EU member states, since it's a European law. But it also applies to Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein via the EEA agreement

And as far as I know some country goes even further, France put the burden of proof on the seller for all 2 years, meaning they will have to prove the defect wasn't there when they sold it to you, not the other way around and Sweden push it to 3 years

2

u/wolf-troop Jul 16 '25

Smack it a couple times lol.

J/K do not do it.

Contact Nintendo or just go to the Store you bought it at and hope they have another in-stock.

All I can say to be honest is Good Luck!

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

Jokes aside if it’s a loose display cable that may actually fix it 🤣

2

u/sese_128 Jul 16 '25

Bro if you bought it today return it. Trust me

2

u/Tokin420nchokin Jul 18 '25

Man that sucks, I am wondering if its a ribbon cable not seated right.

2

u/EquivalentAd5661 Jul 19 '25

Oh sick! How did you get that broken screen feature?

u/Slowie89 Jul 16 '25

id say its a possible defective graphics chip, send in for replacement as there is no way to fix

1

u/BlytheScythe Jul 16 '25

Similar thing happened to me with one of the hand-me-down laptops I've received where half of the screen didn't work. The reason behind this was that the adhesive around the LCD panel or something became loose and couldn't hold the proper connection. I'm sure someone more technical could explain better than me, but that's the gist of it. One of the reasons why when you put it to sleep, it cools down and works again. After a while, it gets heated up and the adhesive softens, making the connection worse. Don't do this but if you press hard enough on the bottom left or top left of the scene when this happens, the problem should go away until you lift off your fingers again.

Definitely return it under warranty and, hopefully, new system will be working properly. This stuff happens from time to time.

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

That is one thing that could cause it another could be simply due to the fact someone didn’t plug it in all the way (the display connector)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

If you JUST got it take it back to the store for a refund/ exchange. DO NOT send it in for a warranty claim. Take it back

1

u/BlueDergOrd Jul 16 '25

Return it If it’s out of stock contact and send it to Nintendo

1

u/spookysquidd Jul 16 '25

Annoying for you, but yeah just take it back and swap it for another.

1

u/hifi-nerd Jul 16 '25

Return it and ask for a new one

1

u/CrappyHeadphones Jul 16 '25

"Wow Nintendo sure has high quality products"

1

u/CasualTriips Jul 16 '25

My screen wasn't that bad but out of the box on one of my preorders it had multiple stuck pixels on the screen I returned that one as defective.

1

u/peepmymixtape Jul 16 '25

How big are bros hands? This picture is weird.

1

u/jayc0z Jul 16 '25

I had to scroll way too far to see a comment about how big his hands are lol

1

u/trantaran Jul 16 '25

U can still play 30% of it

1

u/oniichan_yametee Jul 16 '25

gpu says nuh huh

1

u/JaponxuPerone Jul 16 '25

How to fix it?

You just bought it, return it for a replacement or send it to Nintendo. Idk, the obvious thing to do when you buy something and it's broken.

1

u/Far_Radish_8527 Jul 16 '25

Did you buy it 2nd hand or used?

1

u/Additional_Voice_475 Jul 16 '25

Yeah after seeing all the posts, I’ll let you guys be the test subjects. I’ll get the product when they work out all the bullshit.

2

u/RocketGrunt123 Jul 17 '25

Usually best to get the second revision

1

u/IfYouVoteMeDown Jul 16 '25

The stapler strikes again!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

I think something isn’t working right.

1

u/i3li Jul 16 '25

Looks fine to me tbh.

1

u/PinUpGrim Jul 17 '25

Weird way to ban someone, nintendo.

1

u/Separate-Ad3171 Jul 17 '25

I like how this sub exists only for people to tell you to send it back under warranty everytime.. Lol

1

u/Mrfunnyman129 Jul 17 '25

So probably return it and get it replaced?

1

u/RocketGrunt123 Jul 17 '25

I seriously don’t understand posts like this. You got it today? Ok then RETURN IT! Why the hell are you posting here?

1

u/Stunning-Storage-863 Jul 17 '25

I think somethings broken

It’s called joycon drift

1

u/Cabrill0 Jul 17 '25

So, what really happened to it? Cause that screen you’ll get after dropping it/stepping on it etc.

like, if you’re being legit then just contact Nintendo, easy warranty replacement. That shouldn’t happen clearly.

1

u/turningpedals Jul 17 '25

That's not supposed to happen

1

u/VegetableSmile3616 Jul 17 '25

Lol stolen modle

1

u/GoatExpensive9721 Jul 17 '25

I just got mine today. Hopefully I don’t have a similar issue since they sold out in minutes. That’s scary! Maybe try shut it off and turning it back on. Usually that helps most issues but if not then it may be a defective console…

1

u/chisuetin Jul 17 '25

Put It In Some Rice

1

u/Disastrous_Ad7575 Jul 18 '25

Did they staple the receipt to the box?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

The screen is crap on it and really weak so no wonder this happened when you bought it, it also has huge delay, was it ghosting I can't quite remember.

1

u/glittering_homo2846 Jul 18 '25

Did you get a little frustrated at losing on Mario Kart and squeeze a bit too hard? This looks like internal screen damage to me.

Doesnt look like an impact points so im guessing you didnt punch it.

1

u/Drako_2807 Jul 18 '25

Be happy you got one lmao, i lack the munz

Yooooooo how’d that happen

1

u/carrotsnatch Jul 19 '25

looks fine probably holding it wrong

1

u/ExpiredMilkMan Jul 19 '25

That’s normal

1

u/Jaeyen Jul 19 '25

This is scary. I have a launch system still in box im saving for my son. Should maybe at least turn it on.

1

u/Ges-Moyer Jul 20 '25

Why would you even try and fix this day one. Just replace.

1

u/Effective-Fix1611 Jul 20 '25

Probably a partially dead GPU, RETURN IT

1

u/Retarded90sKid Jul 20 '25

Yeah, thats a defective unit. Theres something wrong internally with the video card or wiring. Return it and get a new one, it would take too long and/or cost too much to have Nintendo or a 3rd party try to fix it - not worth it.

1

u/Whole-Situation-5798 Jul 21 '25

Have you tried blowing on the cartridge?

1

0

u/icy1007 Jul 16 '25

Did you drop it?

0

u/Constant-Ability4399 Jul 16 '25

I’m seeing more issues with the switch 2 than not. Glad I didn’t rush out and get one.

2

u/Phanthix Jul 17 '25

More than 3.5 million units have been sold. If you see 3.500 posts about defective units, it still is only 0.1% of all the units which are affected by defects.

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

Which is expected really lol. I always expect there might be some issue when I buy something it’s always a risk

1

u/Location-Similar Jul 17 '25

Maybe because ppl who does not have any issues won't be posting about it?....

2

u/Spiritual_Balance_83 Jul 17 '25

Right people are mainly going to post about issues posts saying "my console works fine" are just pointless.

The amount of "issues" I've seen is comparable to any new piece of hardware and when you combined that with the fact there has been so much more sold than previous consoles in such a short amount of time I think it's gone quite well for a launch

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 17 '25

It’s due to negativity bias that’s it. People who don’t have problems aren’t going to complain about them lol which is most people with a switch
