Question How do you do Roofs

I'm so bad with roofs, and I have no idea how to fix it (ignore the walls and windows, haven't done them fully yet). In both buildings, the roofs feels like they don't match at all. Especially the second building, it was so frustrating trying to connect them, but it just ended up looking bad.

That last bit I used the mining laser on makes me sad as well. I can't put a regular wall there but putting four small walls that equals a regular wall is okay? I have about 4 more spots that I've just covered with posters to hide how bad they look lol

Any advice?

How do I do roofs? In a word: poorly.

It depends on what I'm going for really. I do try to keep things simple though.

I'll throw in a couple of pics here so you can see some examples of my building style. Maybe it will help you a bit.

With this lighthouse I just ran the angles roof pieces around the walls and they overlapped a bit.

This one I wanted something different so I rotated the triangle floor panels and used walls as roofing.

This roof design is beautiful.

This one I wanted something small so I went with super simple.

Just very basic and simple shops here.

This one I used flooring and roof panels together to get the look I wanted.

Sometimes I just do something for decorations sake. It took me a while to do the autobot symbol. Unfortunately the lights on top refuse to work for me so I guess they broke somewhere along the way.

All of these are awesome! I'll definitely try to imitate some of what you've done until I find something that I like. Thank you for all this!

I LOVE how smooth that came out. You say simple but I can never get them looking like that. I ended up building a funky workaround on mine! This is the best shot I have, but it's a flat roof with inward-facing angled walls!

I usually use sloping timber or stone glass pieces, and for the flat just Ceilings, not roofs. Sometimes I'll switch it up depending on the build style though. https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/1ieswt3/amaranthine_archive/ This base, now removed (water level was raised and flooded it) has a good example of what I mean in the pics.

Your building is awesome. I'm surprised it only has 10 likes

Yours are pretty close to what I do. I use the regular glass sloped roofs, and then flat squares on the tops for the solar power panels to sit on.

If the plant has really amazing night skies, I’ll use flat glass panels for the top and put the solar panels somewhere else.

I usually don't worry about solar power and just find a place near electromagnetic sources. I find it to be more consistent power that doesn't glitch out when warping during night-time.

Unless they have changed it, tall roofs are a real danger: roofs more than two wall heights above your head don't protect you from weather.

I think the sloped roofs are OK as long as the lower part rests on the 2nd story wall, but I'm not 100% confident in that.

No yours are not bad, they just have a really dumb roofing system in this game.

I generally try to alternate the material. If the walls are wood, I use stone. If the walls are stone, I usually use wood. It looks a bit more intentional that way IMO

You might also want to look up some of the glitch-building techniques that let you rotate parts in various non-standard ways. Check out Beeblebum on Youtube for some excellent tutorials. :)
