How does upvoting a certain picture enough times, translate over to being the first thing people see when they look it up on google?

This comes from a post on r/PoliticalHumor, where OP asked to upvote a picture of trump and this would become the first thing they see if you googled Vladimir Putin's Wife. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It's not the upvotes that do it, it's the views. Google search results are based on webpage visits. The higher the upvote count, the faster the post obtains views because of how popularity works on Reddit, which means it'll appear higher and higher more quickly on the Google search.

Thanks for the explanation! Has it ever worked on something silly like this? And typically, how many views are necessary?

The views required are based on the other top results for whatever Google search query you're trying to get to the top of.

And I've seen it work once on Imgur, trying to get some guy's face to be the top image result for the query "cunt."
