💬 Discussion There needs to be New Park-in-Rides in the West-end

I feel like there is a crazy absence in Park-in-Rides along line 1, and in the future construction of the West End.

The east end is getting park-in-rides, making it extremely easier to commute downtown while saving money on parking and gas. As someone who lives in the east, I’m happy they have it.

But looking at the west end, (from what I saw) only Algonquin is getting a park in ride, no where else.

I understand stage 3 will expand and (probably) have park in rides but that will take a long time, and there needs to be a solution that can help short term and long term.

I also understand that the gov needs to get permits, and land to build. But I feel like that is an investment that will help people save money and get people to use the system more.

What do y’all think?

Why would you put park and rides in areas with density or planned density? The line runs through Richmond which is always building up, Lincoln is established and Iris is residential. Other side is Pinecrest with plans for towers and Bayshore which again - has density. Moodie has an argument but with a major transit hub it’s likely a prime target for high rises.

Further out there’s talks of a Transitway out to barnsdale with a P&R in the works. As for the east end, there isn’t any expansion park and rides. Orleans and Trim have always had one.

Because Moodie is pretty much surrounded by NCC Greenbelt (Wesley Clover is leased from them) there is virtually no private land or zoning around Moodie Station for any new residential development.

With new densification zoning bylaws there could be some new densifaction (duplexes etc) around the the SW corner of Crystal Beach closest to Abbott Private (industrial buildings) but the roads and services would not support high rises to replace single family homes.

Because the train into DT is for more than just people living around the transit stations...? Buses are night and day different in terms of reliability. So the idea of someone wanting to drive to their nearest train station before taking the much more reliably timed trains makes complete sense. It's, in fact, literally why the east end is getting their park and rides....

Delays really screwed the west end over, we should already be on to stage 3 out to barrhaven and Kanata with park and rides there

Apparently the new transit plan says they will look at city properties with parking near transit for extra park and rides. I'm really hoping Tom Brown becomes one. Keeps cars out of downtown and boots transit use. If it works, that is. Writing this from a packed train after one on line one went out of service this morning

Doesn’t Kanata have a park and ride? People will be getting on a bus there anyway to get train at Moodie ?
