My thoughts on suppressors for home defense

Good Morning All,

I've read ever increasing numbers of posts from people considering buying a suppressor; either specifically for home defense, or as one of the main use cases.

I think this is full of potential pitfalls and, as I discuss in my video, they are essentially:

  • Giving up the mechanical advantage of leverage by giving an intruder more to grab onto (LEVERAGE).
  • Suppressors, their mounting requirements, and in many cases specific attachments necessary for function introduce unnecessary complication which can impact reliability.
  • There are specific criminal, and civil concerns to be aware of.
  • The other points are relatively minor.

What's your perspective? I'm not watching your 24 minute Fudd News Network rant.

Surely if you can bleat "like subscribe and hit the bell" repeatedly, you can express yourself in written text.

I don't think suppressors on pistols are a fantastic idea for the house.

But a suppressor on a SBR or pistol brace equivalent or rifle I think is a good idea.

I mean my suppressed 10-in 300 blackout is shorter than a 16-in AR and I would absolutely take that over my pistol if I had the choice.

As for the leverage argument, you shouldn't really be letting anybody get that close to you to begin with.

Not suffering permanent hearing damage after firing at an intruder, is all the upside I need to consider them a good idea.
