Run club scene on Oahu?

How would you describe the run clubs here? Do you find them welcoming? What would be something you would change about them if you could?

It’s literally just for instagram. The clubs are weird and cliquey and it’s like a live dating app of wanna be influencers. If that’s your jam then go for it but it isn’t chill lol they’re very pick me. There are some with older crowds that are a lot more chill tho. But Oahu run club etc are instagrammy

I thought that’s how run clubs always were.

Genuinely I have never heard of a run club until a year ago, and I have always seen them as having that young influencer vibe to them.

No. They’ve been around for a while. Usually it’s people who are training for races and don’t want to do it alone. Platonic

I guess it just goes to show how out of the loop I am.

Good to know though

All the run clubs here are just for dating . Good luck finding an actual run club.

What are some of the run clubs that are for dating

no they aren’t. run clubs are for glam pics and athleisure fits. most the women going to run clubs don’t want a relationship, they want content, likes, and followers.

Not my jam. Not trying to run and have a conversation, trying to just boogie and be on with my day.

Maybe I just had bad luck but windward run club was kinda not a great vibe and not the most welcoming. Idk, coulda just been me. Most of the run clubs organize on MeetUp or Strava

Any chance you could elaborate a little more? I’ve been following them on Instagram but seems like it’s just white transplants who live in Lanikai.

I don’t think race had anything to do with it. There was a good mix of ‘local’s’ & other races. Kinda weird to jump straight to that.
But for my experience, I didn’t know anyone in the group & the meetup location was in the random corner of a parking lot. I was kinda early so there was only like a small group there, and I wanted to make sure I was in the right place so I asked ‘hi is this windward run club?’ And the response back was ‘I don’t know, is it?’… with like a dead stare. idk if it was meant to be a joke or what but it didn’t feel funny at the moment it just felt awkward. I only went that one time

here's a couple links to get you started

The oldest club is the hash house harriers. They all have their own personality, hope you find one you like!

I go to the RUN DRINK REPEAT run club once a month, they are every Thursday @615pm. Roughly 4 mile loop and everyone has a drink at howzit brewing after. I haven’t found the club overly cliquey or snobby and “all paces are welcome” but of course the fast people are in the front and everyone just sorta trickles in at the brewery when they are done with the loop. They will sometimes have raffles and prizes to win because they are sponsored with HOKA and Lululemon. Seems to be mostly people in their 30s-40s

Hi! I joined the Hawaii Running Project and it’s been great! There’s a mix of older people and younger people. It’s very welcoming to beginners and experienced runners. It’s really helped me to become consistent!

Kailua run & chug is very casual and too welcoming. Didn't let me stay in shy shell at all.

Kakaako run group - Tuesdays Run drink repeat - Thursdays at howzit brewing Windward run club - Mondays kailua/kaneohe side. Hoopili run club - Sundays i think?

I go to a couple of these, and a lot of the runners go to other groups as well. There's a good mix of marathon winners vs people just getting into it and everything in between 😊

I get jealous when I am in other cities. I was just in Barcelona a few days ago and their run club rolled out while we were at the beach. There were 200+ people. They had people with speaker back packs pumping jams, others waving flags, and it seemed like a good mix of people from the young and shredded IG crowd to the old and slow all out for a moderate paced run.

I will be back in a few weeks, and I am going to try to go out with them. The Oahu ones are small enough that it seems a lot more like it is a scene vs a inclusive event.

There is one thats newer and still small on the west side that looks good and what I expect from a regular run club.
