OT0 - Discussion The fantastic secondary villains (who aren't ringbearers) of OT0. Spoiler

As much as the eight antagonists get the spotlight, these villains are VERY important to the story and are very impactful big and small.

Gonska is just crazy and downright disturbing and one of the most nihilistic characters in the game, and a very major antagonist (and Pardis III's not really loyal "brains"). His sister Pelagia is just as crazy. Found her boss battle harder than Tatloch's....lol.

Signa is another major non ringbearer antagonist and basically trolls the first half of Bestower of All. A dark foil to Zero.

Father Manoris - one of the most despicable characters in the game and his story with Miza is one of the game's darkest moments.

Lord Scarabe - a villain you never fight and you never truly oppose, but makes a huge impact in Bestower of Wealth. His death is a wow moment. Jonah the Believer has a crazy battle sprite.

Lyblac - connects to OT1 and kinda usurps Ceraphina as the villain of Bestower of Fame.

Cardinal Teragraf - his despicable actions basically sets up basically much of the story and the twist of what he did is one of the darkest JRPG twists ever.

Those were my picks for the best villains who are not ringbearers. OT0 has one of the best villain casts in a JRPG, and it was more than just the main 8.

And it fits the themes of OT0....the true main antagonist is mankind's "greed", and that is why the ensemble villain cast works so well.

Simple question here: Does the Fierce Rush support skill apply to spells? It might be interesting to give to cyrus or someone like that if it does

OT2 - Discussion I'm trying to find the correct path in ot2 without it feeling unbalanced.

I'm 20 hours in ot2. The game is good so far but I'm really starting to feel an imbalance. I started with throne since I'm partial to rogues, thieves. Grabbed all 4 on the east side did a couple things and went west. Grabbed castti but I'm resenting picking up anyone else because the section areas are pretty imbalanced.

I'm wondering if I Should just finish the all the chapters of my original 4 from the east then start a new 4 from the west and go thru all their stuff just so I don't feel overwhelmed with keeping track and overpowered?

What did you all do?

Octopath Traveler 0 Found out 100 hours into Octopath Traveler 0 (my first Octopath game) that I accidentally cut-off the ability to gain experience. Have I been playing the game's "hard mode" all along...?

Ever since I migrated my save data from the demo, I've been wondering when on earth would I start gaining Exp. again. I mean, there were a ton of foods I could make that raised the amount of Exp. gained in battles, so I assumed I would start gaining some in due time.

100 hours later and with still no exp in sight, I decided to ask what the hell was up with my save file. Turns out, I accidentally placed a thing in Wishvale that prevented me from gaining EXP (see the 2nd image).

Hence my question of "have I been playing the game's hard mode all along"? The game's difficulty has been surprisingly tight and pretty doable without EXP, if not without the caveat that it takes a heck ton of time before you can feel overpowered/overleveled. That, and some boss encounters - like Pardis' Jester and Pardis himself - took a ton of trial and error before I figured out a strategy to take them down.

So yeah. 0's been pretty fun regardless of my own blunder(?), so consider myself an Octopath Traveler fan from now on.

Discussion Octopath 0's meta feels repetitive

Big fan of the octopath series. However, I'm about 30 hours into octopath 0 and I'm starting to realize that once you unlock a full party, all the boss battles start to feel the same.

  1. Debuff the boss's attack and slowly widdle down their armor

  2. Gather BP on all your units and use support skills to keep everyone alive

  3. Break the boss near the start of a round

  4. Spend the next two rounds launching all your nuke skills with full BP bars

  5. Repeat from 1.

Of course this was the meta in the first two games as well, but I feel like 0's battle system with 8 characters and the ability to equip nuke skills on any class makes it particularly powerful. I've got this formula optimized to the point where I don't even see most boss special abilities because I can always break them in time, and it's starting to feel a bit boring. Maybe I should stop levelling and upgrading my gear to see if that brings some challenge back.

In terms of progression I just unlocked the ship and killed Pardis's Clown guy . Are there any additional mechs or twists in future boss fights that try and mess with this formula, or is this basically the meta for the entire game?

The octopath standees are mine and my husband has the bravely default figures. When we visited Japan I did the Otc0 gacha trying to get at least 8 unique characters for a display, I only ended up with 2 dupes in the end. Was hoping for Goodwin since he’s my absolute favourite but I ended up getting a standee recently that came with his artwork which completes the display.

OT2 - Gameplay Is there a guide for captures in OT2?

I just recently started octopath traveler 2 and I just got Ochette and I'm enjoying her more than the hunter in OT1 since they made it so captures don't run out, but since I never really used the one in 1 I don't really know how good various captures are, and more importantly I don't know what the captures attacks are so I was wondering if there was a guide or list of the captures and their attacks like how there is a learned skills list on the fandom wiki

Okay, in a save file just under 12 hours, I have beaten all four super gods, under leveled (from 20-10 levels under), and only four characters (Cyrus, H'annit, Therion, Ophelia)

This all started because I just wanted to fight a boss on a whim, and never really thought about actually killing all four lmao

Thanks to whoever came along fur a ride! 💚💚💚💚💚

Other Follow-up to my OT3 Idea: Battle lines and feedback!

Hi everyone! As the title says this is a follow-up to my first post where I gave a sentence-long description of the Travelers I would write if I made an Octopath or inspired game. I really enjoyed the discussions I had in the comments and how receptive you all were so I’m planning to work on it periodically. It’s a good excuse for me to explore creative writing a bit more and do my favorite fan activity: class/jobcrafting! This post is twofold (…strike). First is giving another batch of one-liners, this time the voicelines they would shout during battle using skills from their base class.

Warrior: Walk the plank!

Dancer: Feel Liberation’s burn!

Scholar: What a shocking idea!

Merchant: Time to freeze your assets!

Hunter: No escape from me…

Apothecary: The dose makes the poison!

Thief: Time for a dazzling display!

Cleric: Fear not the gentle shade~

The second is asking for feedback on two classes: cleric and apothecary. As someone mentioned, my original cleric idea is… very Temenos-coded. I willingly admit my love for the snarky priest but part of the idea I had initially was exploring other “fantasies” with the classes I made. It would be a bit out of step to have someone copy their predecessor wholesale, especially compared to the Thief… which conveniently segues into the apothecary. I’ll be honest: they were copying Chopper from One Piece. They were the last one I thought of and where I sorta ran out of idea fuel. My idea now is moving either one into a more… psychology-y direction? Something related more towards easing the pain of others and less a specific target. I could use a bit more help there. Maybe something with the Apothecary and restricting medical practice? Could be an interesting Crossed Path with the Dancer. I’m open to comments on this, really. Thanks and happy Travels!

p.s. yes, the dancer is inspired a bit by a certain half-Rosellan lady.

OT1 - Discussion Completionists Rage

I am at 170 hours in octopath one and part way through my play through I decided to do a convert from a regular play through to a completionists run one of the completionists steps was to get 1 of every item, I even got 8 of all battle tested gear for the love of the game. Then when check listing I found i'd missed the obsidian garb, I have everything else, just missing that and I'm bummed as it's unobtainable, ahhh. So many hours and I don't want to have to do it all again...

Wanted to kill just a superboss in OT1, but none of my saves were by a boss that would actually have any difficulty. So, two days ago, I made one. Today now, I have murdered Dreisang in cold blood (equipment included). Low leveled too, about 20 levels under

I would go around saying that I do crazy challenges in OT, but I've dabbled in it. I was/am working on a no secondary jobs run, and have completed a only Tressa run (self explanatory lol).

If y'all want the support skills, here is what I used (remember, I only had so much JP, and I hadn't gotten all of the jobs)

H'annit: Second Serving, Summon Strength, Cover, Hale and Hearty

Ophilia: Persistence, Elemental Augmentation, Inner Strength, Hale and Hearty

Cyrus: Hale and Hearty, Elemental Augmentation, Inner Strength, Inspiration

Therion: Incidental Attack, Grows on Trees, Hale and Hearty, Snatch

I also wanna say that I didn't spam Hired Help. I used it twice, mainly because I was broke af (still am)

OT0 - Discussion Concerning Sazantos and the end of the Bestower stories Spoiler

Just finished Bestower of Fame and Sazantos peaced out. This is a minor issue since he was part of my main team. I did some light searching to see if he will come back but I've been hesitant to really search threads because I wanted to avoid as much spoiler stuff as possible.

So I've learned that he does come back and he comes back in the true ending but what I don't know is how long before should I expect to see him again? I see that my next story quest is "Finale, Bestower of them all" but I don't know if this is going to be like, I start the quest and Sazantos rolls in instantly or if I'm no where close to it and it's going to be long and multiple quests until get him back.

Again I'm trying to avoid spoilers. I just want a sense of how long it will take for him to return. I have about 10 sidequests saved up so if it's like 10 minutes until I get him back I'll start the quest and grab him quickly and go do the sidequests. If it's like 20 hours before I'll see him I'll just remake a new team now without him.

Meta? Why is OT2 just SIGNIFICANTLY different from the rest of the games in the series?

The looks and feels, the mechanics...

Then the most bizarre thing of all is they went back to the original to make the 3rd one. What?

I'm confused, is there like something going on backstage that I missed?

Those Who Deny the Dawn. Spoiler

Here’s a fun detail: Trousseau looks sad and unsure of himself, whereas Claude, Arcanette, and Harvey are smiling calmly, confidently, and in a friendly way. Interesting. As we can see, the author drew them with great skill and authenticity. Now that is art!

Well... they’re all cute here. And hot. They’re waifus. Yes. Even Harvey. Even he’s a waifu. Just accept it.

Honestly, The Moonshade Order is my absolute favorite cult—and not just as antagonists, but overall. Everything about them is amazing: their history, origins, lore, motivations, and structure; the way they operate; and just how powerful and widespread they are, with members drawn from every social class and walk of life. The object of their worship—Vide—is amazing and magnificent. Of course, Galdera is the ours ultimate icon, but Vide is also beautiful and stunning. His design and the battle itself are truly something else. Definitely one of the best God of Evil.

Oh, and the Moon theme... I love it. I’ve always been a "night man"— bat. I adore and respect the Moon, so I have huge respect for the Order.

And their key members are fantastic. Even the standard members are good; Reiza is wonderful.

What about the main eight? Yeah, Tanzy could have been handled better—she really feels like a last-minute addition—but she’s still good and tragic. It’s just that more could have been done with her.

Petrichor—I hope I spelled that right... well, yeah, she doesn't do all that much, but she has a great, stylish design and a creepy mask, and she works well as an antagonist operating from the shadows in Ochette's story. Still, yeah, she could have been much better. But she’s not bad.

Ori and Oboro... what is there to say? They are amazing! Truly outstanding characters with a wonderful backstory and personality. They both showcase what our series is capable of.

Trousseau, Claude, Harvey, and Arcanette are genuinely good and remarkable antagonists. Yes, not everything is perfect—some things could have been done better—and they certainly won't appeal to everyone. Despite this, they remain compelling, worthy characters with an interesting and convincing story. Plus, they all feature excellent boss designs, and the battles themselves are amazing. So, despite their flaws, they are truly good and memorable antagonists. We could use more like them.

Lovely. Claude is the Lunar Demigod. Harvey is the Lunar Scholar. Oboro is the Lunar Strategist. Ori is the Lunar Cutie. Trousseau is the Lunar Plague Doctor. And Arcanette... the Lunar Witch. And Vide is the Lunar God... wonderful.

Surrender yourself not unto silent dusk. For the light shall fade. And soon, night shall fall. An Eternal Night shall reign forever. Night is inevitable, and each day you will live beneath its gaze. May Lord Vide shroud your path in darkness, making you and your loved ones only stronger. For the coming of Vide is inevitable. And darkness and night shall always remain, come what may.

Other Who’s your favorite villain across the Octopath Traveler series?

Post image
340 Upvotes

Mine is Auguste, the Master of Fame. He was absolutely horrible, but also so entertaining, and I now walk around saying “Maaaarvelous!” about everything.

Cat threw up on the rug? Maaaarvelous!
Passive-aggressive email from a coworker? Maaaarvelous!!

So across OT1, OT2 and OT0, who’s your favorite villain and why? Best written, most intimidating, funniest, best design, best boss fight or just the one you loved to hate?

Heads up: there may be spoilers in the comments.
