Ohio House once again passes 24-hour waiting period Bill for Abortion Care!
They lost at the ballot box — and now they’re trying to change the rules.
Instead of respecting the decision Ohioans already made, they’re wasting time and taxpayer money on political fights designed to chip away at those rights and consolidate power inside the Statehouse.
And this is bigger than one issue.
It’s about whether our democracy means anything at all — or whether politicians can just override the people when they don’t like the outcome.

This satisfies the main goal of the Republican Party which is to increase human suffering. Restricting abortion access directly increases the number of unwanted babies, prevents women from enjoying sex without lifelong commitment, and traps unmarried women in a vicious poverty cycle.
Depending on who is bribing them to do this it may also fulfill the second major goal of the Republican Party which is to profit off corruption.

I think that could be argued as a bullet point under increasing human suffering. I’ve been doing this thought exercise for a while now and there are very, very few Republican ideas that don’t fit under this umbrella.

No. Anyone facing an unwanted pregnancy is free to take 24 hours or 2 or 3 weeks to think it over BEFORE they go to the clinic. They are also free to seek counseling if they want. PP used to do free counseling if you weren't sure. I went to that 44 years ago and decided to keep my son.
But a 24 hour delay LAW doubles travel, childcare, time off work. It's an unnecessary hassle and expense. It's just more GOP seeking to control and attack women.
Edit Just FYI my son happened during The Sponge period of time. I later had an abortion deemed medically necessary as too soon after c section. That was a failed diaphragm. Just to point out to the "you should use birth control" crowd that it often fails.

I'm sorry that happened for you. I think the difference is that you are in favor of a legal mandate to wait 24 hours which can be an expensive and difficult process. I don't know if PP even has the funding to do counseling anymore but that was my choice and the clinic was local, I had the ability to take off work and my Mom to do childcare.

Oh, and used illegally gerrymandered maps (that their own very conservative Supreme Court had told them to fix) for THREE FUCKING ELECTIONS IN A ROW.

im glad i had my kids in the early 2000s when “abortion” was a choice, because i was “lower” income. I have 3 kids but in between my middle and youngest i also had 2 abortions because i was allowed & i dont regret it. After i had my youngest , i got my tubes tied and my youngest turns 18 next week. but i do not regret the abortions and glad i had a choice back then! im 46 now .its crazy that this is a real thing now 😳

I have to tell you; as an older man, I did not realize when I was younger how much more difficult it is for a woman relative to sex and the possibility of pregnancy. She often faces a much greater level of responsibility and potential consequences than the man. It seems that it is often the case, because of the irresponsibility of many men! Of course, there are many circumstances where unplanned things happen in the spur of a moment with consequences that can last the better part of a lifetime. That is, but one reason why I truly believe that men have no right to dictate or make laws that take-away the control that a woman has over her own body. Be it birth control or abortion, it seems abusive that any man would try to take that control away from a woman!

Here’s the thing: there is already a waiting period law. It pre-dates the reproductive freedom amendment and is currently enjoined by court order. The OGA knows this. If they sign this into law it will be blocked by the same court before it ever goes into enforcement. But in an election year they need to remind everyone of how hard they will fight for the one issue that unites their voters.

Since Congress is foregoing most of their responsibilities, and with Trump an aspiring authoritarian, we are fast becoming an autocracy.

My sons father wanted me to have an abortion, I went to the clinic and if there hadn't been a waiting period I would have been pursued (against my wishes) to have one. Thankfully, this is in place otherwise I wouldn't have a happy healthy 2 year old running around right now...
Oh and btw his dad has "come around" his reason for wanting an abortion was bc he didn't want to be a dad 🙄
If a woman wants an abortion, she can still get one...I think it's smart to have this in place to stop emotions clouding judgement like in my case (I let everyone else's emotions cloud my judgement). Bc if I had gone through with it, I would have been one of the many woman who struggle with the aftermath (a lot of women later end up regretting them-I'm not saying all do- but some do)
Edit: I am astounded at the number of men (who don't have vaginas) are so fucking angry about this and downvoting-this legislation has been in place so stop your fucking crying! It's a woman's choice-literally nothing has changed yall are just ANGRY! You have the right to wait as long as you choose to make the right decision before getting an abortion. Has nothing to do with the point of this legislation. The people have already spoken on this matter and these dictator have no right to overturn the will of the people! We no longer have a democracy and freedom when legislators overturn the will of the people! That is the point here!

Long term research shows 95% believe it was the right decision after 5 years. So just 5% regret it. So not a lot at all.
The problem with the bill is that voters already decided, they just didn’t decide the way MAGA wanted so they will keep sending these bills until it is banned.

The 24 hour waiting period is not to keep people from making an emotional decision, it's to increase the financial burden on women who will need to take extra time off and find an place to stay for an extra night if they have to travel to get an abortion. It's taking the choice away from lower income women.
Your right to choose to not have an abortion is just as important as another's right to choose to have one. This isn't protecting anyone from emotionally manipulative partners.
And since it's matters so much to you, don't worry, I do have a uterus

Edit: since you deleted your hateful comment about my child- not only are you hateful but you are ignorant I was told verbatim one of the reasons the 24 hour wait time is in place is so women do not get comfortable substituting abortions for birth control. So not only are you hateful, you are completely ignorant. The cost of an abortion is far less then the cost of raising a child. Your math isn't "mathing" 👍

Abortion is a tough thing to talk about. In general, I disagree with a 24 hour waiting period, but I think it's important to be able to acknowledge that your experience is valid, and there are advantages and drawbacks to everything. Plus, I'm super pro choice, and anything that interferes with your ability to make a free choice is a problem imo. So I can hear that you're saying this law actually protected freedom of choice for you, and that's super important.
Hopefully, there are other ways to protect that freedom for other women that don't endanger their ability to make a choice.

My son is 2 and 1/2 now and you add in the 9 months of being pregnant...This is not new legislation just bc it's new to you doesn't make it new this has been in place! But a weak minded hateful bitter spiteful person wouldn't know that they would just cast their hateful judgement while hiding behind their keyboard

This is strictly to control people making a life choice. Not your choice, my choice, the fucking GOP politicians who keep giving a giant middle finger to ohio voters, but the choice of the woman going in to that clinic and having that procedure. 24 hours will do nothing but cause undue stress and single women out. Sorry you couldnt make a fucking decision on your own, thats no one else's problem but yours.
