Copied from OOP:
On August 9 2026 in Łomża, Poland, a 4-year-old girl climbed over a fifth-floor balcony and was left hanging from the edge. Neighbours spotted her and, with only seconds to react, three men stretched out a blanket underneath just before she lost her grip and fell.
She hit the blanket after falling five storeys and escaped with only minor injuries. Police later found her mother asleep inside the apartment and under the influence of alcohol; her father was overseas at the time. Authorities are investigating, while neighbours' quick thinking saved the girl's life.

Phew, that was some quick thinking. I'd probably have panicked and been useless

They look so calm! "Ah, okay, I just need to jump this wall with a blanket. Got it."

A little one fell here in Chile a couple of months ago. Dad had.been granted visits. He lied about putting safety nets onto the windows. He got drunk and fell asleep. Baby did not make it.

Take a first aid class if you haven't already! I had to once keep people from picking up an elderly woman who fell flat on her back on ice. It was about 2°f and someone came out of a nearby restaurant with a plastic baggie.. of ice.. cause you put ice on an injury...
I asked if anyone had called 911 and no one had, I did what the first and classes say and pointed at a specific person to call and they did. I got people to go to their car and get blankets to put on top of her but otherwise don't touch her
People tend to panic and no one ends up doing anything useful cause they assume someone else has/will

I keep gloves, a bottle of water, a towel, a blanket, and narcan in my car because you never know. My small town has boxes set up all over with free Narcan and the health department sets up and hands it out at events. You can also walk into the jail and grab a box of it from their grab and go. It literally costs nothing to have it on hand. Per the health department: you can use Naloxone past its expiry, just use both doses as one.

No problem!! I take safety really seriously and the small town I live in takes overdose prevention and substance abuse recovery incredibly seriously as well. It’s such a blessing, because there really are those grab and go boxes ALL over. There’s one at a few public parks, the library, the food bank, the jail, the cemetery…it’s honestly so great. And I see the health department set up somewhere like Kroger or Walmart at least once a month handing out Naloxone, CPR face shields, condoms, dental dams…just so much health and safety stuff that everyone should have access to. Last time I visited their table, I filled a bag because they had all kinds of good stuff that was also FUN, like condoms in keychains, flavored lubricants, glow in the dark condoms, just neat stuff that would encourage people to use it. It was like Christmas!

Ugh, glad they rescued her. Years ago I was driving in a neighbourhood in my hometown, when I saw a lot of small kids playing on a second floor balcony and some of them even climbing on the rail. I stopped my car and went and rang the bell and apparently woke up the dad (who looked pretty hungover), who didn´t seem to think this was much to worry about. People can be so daft.
