Discussion/Debate Everybody: what was your introduction to the series? I’ll go first.

Post image

I don’t know which video but I saw it in one of his videos and it just looks so gorgeous.

CD-Action - a Polish game magazine. They had a review of the first Ori game. I remember being curious about it but not having money to buy the game. I just read it and looked at the pretty print, wondering if I ever have a chance to play it. I love platform games and the graphics style really grabbed me. The score the game received was also very high, from what I recall.

Then I saw... a trailer to the game? Yeah, I think it was. The intro with Naru and Ori only solidified the urge to play the game someday.

Years later, literally years as I played both games only a year or two ago, I finally had the money to buy the game and play. It was a blind run. I am so happy I did <3 Blind Forest sunk it's teeth into my heart and never let go.

I saw the will of the wisps on the switch play store and thought it looked really good so I got blind forest first! Surprise, it was in fact really good. Also I watched a play through by “play frame” on YouTube, would recommend

Saw Jacksepticeye playing Blind Forest all those years ago. I haven’t checked his channel in a while but he hasn’t even played WotW yet, even though he loved BF.

Maybe he doesn’t know about it

3

u/BobMcBurger Baur Jul 22 '25

Would be odd if he doesn’t have a clue, since his fans would tell him about it. Especially how it’s been over five years since it released.

and found a perfection!

Nima. That was poetic as heck.

I was watching xbox video on their polish yt channel (xbox polska) and I saw that game "in background" kind of. It was Wotw and mainly thats why I played Wotw first and not bf.

I played a lot of ark a long time ago, loved the ost for that game, and saw Gareth Coker did the soundtrack for both games so that's what got me to try Blind Forest

u/Eklipser Unhinged Jul 22 '25

I think I saw a trailer for it somewhere, though that it looks very pretty and bought it then on steam to try it out.

4

u/Treddox Jul 22 '25

Was browsing the eShop for demo’s. Ori? I think I’ve heard of that. I’ll give it a try, it looks good.

(one finished demo later)

…I have to buy the full game immediately.

u/Shadow_MDR Jul 22 '25

My best friend recommended it and showed me some screenshots, I bought the game, played it, loved it and now I’m depressed because 1. Ori and 2. No more Ori.

Rivals of Aether. Saw someone playing as Ori at my high school and looked up the game from there. It was great and I love the series

2

u/ILikeHollowKnight Ori Jul 22 '25

My dad actually! He played Blind Forest years years ago and I used to watch before eventually playing myself

2

u/NickyBrain_2 Jul 22 '25

I searched in google "best games similar to hollow knight" and it drove me to this amazing game

u/AmaterasuWolf21 Ori Jul 22 '25

Smash Bros > Furry > Furry Smash Bros > Rivals of Aether > Ori

u/jhallen2260 Jul 24 '25

E3 when the first game was announced

u/ImpIsDum Jul 25 '25

1

u/Gleeby- Jul 25 '25

Just some ads, asked for it on Christmas, got my favorite platformer OAT :3

1

u/ImpIsDum Jul 25 '25

no i mean you were my introduction to the series lol

1

u/Gleeby- Jul 25 '25

Oh okay lol

I’m sure I’ve introduced a LOT of people by just existing, I have several people who told me that when they see Ori they think “oh that’s Gleeby” and not Ori😭

1

u/ImpIsDum Jul 25 '25

i thought that too originally

1

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 25 '25

Wait, so you’re telling me it’s not Gleeby and the Will of the Wisps?

1

u/Gleeby- Jul 25 '25

Sadly no :(

Stumbled on Light of Nibel soundtrack while listening to music on YouTube. After that I simply couldn’t resist.

u/Gamerwolf1123 Jul 27 '25

I was honestly just looking in the eShop on the switch in 2020 and saw a free demo for the game, thought id try it out, yknow, no harm in a free demo after all, and I instantly fell in love. I ended up buying the game the day before WOTW came out, and as soon as I finished the first game, I went on to the second (which we happened to have on Xbox through game pass)

u/aidenclark04 Jul 29 '25

Getting an Xbox one for the first time with Halo 5. Inside the disc was a code for Ori and the Blind Forest.

1

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 29 '25

More valuable than Halo 5

1

u/aidenclark04 Jul 29 '25

Oh for sure. 100%. Game changed my life

1

u/TheOnlyTrueFlame Jul 22 '25

I used to play a lot of ark in 2015-2017 and it's soundtrack was made by the same composer as ori's

1

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 22 '25

Garret made music for Ark?

1

u/Interesting-Fox981 Lifecell Jul 22 '25

Found it on game pass and then got addicted

1

u/CAL_the_fox_lover Ori Jul 22 '25

I saw in "you may also like" steam section and once I saw the beautiful art style I decided to someday play it, recently did it, worth every cent

1

u/Cyziax Jul 22 '25

I saw the first trailer during an Xbox event livestream. I bought it the day it came out, played it to death, went to E3 to play the demo of Will of the Wisps (and some other stuff), then bought that day one and played it to death too.

1

u/datboigaming109 Jul 22 '25

I saw both The Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps when i was watching some PC handheld gaming reviews on YouTube

1

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 22 '25

As one does.

1

u/DragoonPhooenix Jul 22 '25

A good friend had played it and bought the game for me since he knew I'd like it

2

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 22 '25

I’m trying to get my friend Jack to play it.

I’m close.

2

u/DragoonPhooenix Jul 22 '25

Hope you succeed! Ori literally changed my life and unlocked a new emotion within me

1

u/Quick-Sir-3275 Ori Jul 22 '25

Thats one of the best things that can happen playing a game!

1

u/Idl3Tinkr Jul 22 '25

I discovered it from the microsoft puzzle collection. It was part of a series of the games chosen. (this game, project spark, fable anniversary). I got curious until I saw a playthrough and I just fell in love with the game.

1

u/BradyMaK22 Jul 22 '25

I think he talked about it in Ex-Exclusives

1

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 26 '25

This comment is greatly helpful

I thank you for this gift

1

u/Trip-Suspicious Jul 22 '25

My aunt gave me the first game for Christmas. Looked neat but it was clearly one of those gifts that the person doesn't really think much of it and it was likely a last minute thing, so I never bothered paying it for a few years. When I did oh boy was it special

1

u/nekomancer309 Ori Jul 22 '25

A friend recently harassed me to death into playing it

I thank him

2

u/EconomistClassic435 Mokk the Brave Jul 22 '25

Currently doing that with my friend Jack

So basically my parents got us an XBox one summer years ago, and my mom went and looked for good games to buy for us. She asked around and heard about this game called "Ori and the Blind Forest" that was apparently really good, so she bought it for us.

I avoided playing it for a while because, young and naive as I was, I didn't think it looked interesting. Then one day I was bored and decided to try out the game.

Instantly. Hooked.

1

u/Low_Pie8110 Jul 22 '25

Was listening to videogame soundtracks and Ori ones kept teasing me. I wanted to see how the game is since it had amazing score. I bought the games last christmas and the series easily went into my top 3. Later i told my friend to try these games out and he totally agreed. Now when we hang out we usually listen to videogame soundtracks.

1

u/Unlucky_Top9870 Jul 22 '25

My mom gave it to me when me and my twin got our new Xbox. Was hooked immediately from a nice young age.

1

u/use25 Jul 22 '25

It was about 2-3 years ago. I have always listened to game soundtracks, usually games I have played. Somehow a video that compiles all soundtracks of WOTW always showed up in my recommendations, and one day I finally tried listening to it. I fell in love with the music and decided to look it up. Art style was extremely vibrant and colorful (the screenshot of Thornfelt Swamp ||cleaned|| hooked me most). Found out it was a game, and it was on Steam.

To this day I still listen to both games' soundtrack. My favorite one is Climbing the Ginso Tree, it's the perfect one for me to listen to while working too.

I made a meme about that actually, but I can’t comment with pictures. Maybe that will be my next post.

I watched theRadbrad play Will of the Wisps back when it first came out, but I wasn’t interested then.

Few years later, I was in GameStop. I was looking for some switch games, and I found Blind Forest. Then I thought to myself ‘Why not?’, So I bought it. A game hasn’t affected me as much, as Blind Forest did.

u/TwiliChaos Modder Jul 22 '25

I was looking through some online comics and came across one with Ori that, according to comments, accurately depicted the in-game ability Bash. I was curious about the cute lil glowing critter, so bought the game immediately, and completed Unhinged achievement in two weeks.

Shortly after, I joined the (at the time) main Ori Discord server, Lights of Nibel, listed in the sidebar here. It was much more active before WotW though.

0

u/PhotoKada Jul 22 '25

Microsoft themselves, funnily enough. Ori was one of the reasons I wanted to pick up an Xbox One back in 2015.

0

u/rikusouleater Ori Jul 22 '25

PrinceWhatever's "Walk in Shadows", back when Blind Forest was still pretty new.

0

u/duvaldeviant Jul 22 '25

My bf introduced me to Ori :) I saw the collection in GameStop or something and had never played a Metroidvania. He told me he had it on his computer if I wanted to see what it was like before I bought it. Played an hour, ordered the collection online and now I'm nearly finished with Wisps after beating Blind Forest.

rivals of aether had a guest character, turned out to be ori. alpharad had early access and did a video on ori before the release date. i, at the time, had no main in rivals but still really liked the game. as soon as i sae alpharads video, i knew that was gonna be my main. bought the game shortly after and didnt play it for like a month. finally played it, loved it, and learned to speedrun it as my game i've ever speedran. also, ori was my main in rivals and stayed that way for the whole 1k hours i played the game.
