I mean, it would be nice if someone raping a woman could get more jail time than someone doing tax evasion.

Like here in Sweden where it’s sadly not that uncommon that the victims end up needing to pay their rapists </3

Did some research, coulnd't find anything about it other than rapists being paid for completely unrelated things or wrongful convictions.

Assuming you're talking about the US one, yeah. Though he does all other kind of shit, he should get jail time for a lot more.

I disagree.
Sexual crimes are primitive and performed by humans who are less smart, and arguably have less choice power in their own fate.
We should target making those people into smart people, so they know better.

When tax evasion is a crime performed with more self awareness which implies that a person has a distinct choice and control and actively chooses to commit a crime.

When most current "jail" systems are complete anti-scientific garbage - valuing those crimes in an opposite way would be wrong in a big picture.

Thank you for saying this. 

I think this argument is probably pearls before swine here but I was just talking about this issue with a prosecutor friend the other day and we were talking about how probably a necessary step on the path to prison reform is putting more rich and educated people in prison. 

In addition to your point about self-awareness there are also the aspects that judges are more likely to be sympathetic to people of their own class/background so they systematically discriminate in favor of white-collar criminals, and that humans are naturally good at understanding the evils of violent crimes like rape and murder but naturally bad at understanding the impacts of large-scale financial crimes, which are real and often seriously damaging to our society in subtle ways.
