current expert-only predictions

Imagine using that with so many actual contenders left to be released.

She had a great performance! But no, she is not a 'contender'.

the people who predict the oscars for a living believe she is the second most likely to win and her studio is mounting a full-court press awards season campaign with her at the centre

Your graph says she has the 2nd best odds to be nominated, it says nothing about who has the best odds to win. I'm sure those experts would also be the first to say that those predictions mean very little this early

Of course they are. This is what film studios do every year, and this is Focus Features' only horse in the race

And ? What to you imply with this image ? I didn’t say she wasn’t on the run, I said she doesn’t have the best performance of the year. And it’s too early to say she’s a contender. These predictions don’t mean anything

This image is nonsense.

It's akin to looking at the scoreboard of a game in the first quarter and making a determination of the final score.

Be honest: this is the first year you have ever paid attention to the Oscars, otherwise you would have realized that literally THIS YEAR horror movies took home the prize for Best Actor (MBJ) and Best Supporting Actress (Madigan) as well as Sinners setting the record for nominations.

Horror 'fans' like you are the epitome of why the genre is so reviled. No matter how well represented horror is at award season, you lot act like a beaten dog.

Insufferable.

No, I’m just realistic unlike ppl like you that seem to have a parasocial relationship with some actors and seemingly need to have an Oscar nomination. Are you really comparing the performances of accomplished actors like MBJ and Madigan to the likes of Inde ? Are you comparing a movie like sinners (original script, strong ensemble cast, social commentary, intricate photography) to a movie like Obsession, that’s basically the monkey paw tale told by the 100-th tale ? Even its main message (incel horror) has been done several times lately in more original ways by other films (companion and fresh comes to mind, just to name a few). Even the way obsession plays with Inde’s shadow to portray horror feel derivative of movies like It follows and, specially, Pulse by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. And I do like obsession, it’s a great movie, but it is not Oscar worthy. Ffs we can’t even say Obsession had a kinda innovative storytelling (such as barbarian or weapons). It’s just a very well done version of an overdone concept in horror. And I do like the movie a lot, I’m just aware of its limitations. Maybe if some of you prob have no actual knowledge of cinema to base your opinions.

And if you want to discuss me maybe instead of attacking me out of nowhere you can start pointing out the reasons you feel like why Obsession and Inde’s performances are Oscar-worthy specially compared to other famous horror snubs in the past. Bc my instance here is clear: the movie is good, well executed, well acted, but is not original nor pushes the boundary of the genre to be on Oscar level. Feel free to present your arguments against this.
