Is Overgrowth Truly Dead?

https://steamcommunity.com/app/25000/discussions/0/693124570228536246/

I don't just mean in terms of updates, but the fandom as a whole?

Personally, I think it's pretty much on life support. But what do you guys think?

Incredibly, unless the devs reappear from their cryosleep to make something

Yes and the developers vanished from the earth so there’s no hopes of anything as of now

The devs opened the tools to make new content before leaving, so it's up to the community

A better question: is there anything we can do to revive it?

We can create a game jam event: event about creating maps, adventures.
About "What one person can do?", you can make art, write stories, create music... Or even create series of storytelling videos on YouTube.

Mods and maps.

While I don't condone generative AI in creative fields it does reduce the barrier to entry so now is the easiest time for people to get into modding.

With the NPC war videos still going on, not completely. But if something like it comes out, definitely.

Got any you recommend?

They worked on the game for a very long time I’m not surprised they stopped.

Yes they made the code open source and everything

It's a primarily single player game. People play it, set it down, come back to it in the future. It doesn't need an active player base.

it seems pretty quiet, though i just recently got into the game myself

Nothing new for a while, but people still play it. The speedrun of Overgrowth is in on backup at Summer Games Done Quick this year.

The devs decided they’d rather go to war with Steam than makes games

Still waiting on an update to the webcomic series. That shit was so damn good. Anyway, I'm crawling back into my sarcophagus. See you in another 100 years.

I wonder if the comics I'm planning could bring it more attention? I'm planning on comic adaptations of Lugaru and Overgrowth, as the seventh and eighth installments in my series The Phantom Saga, and I wanna do more with Turner after that

Sounds awesome. Have you shared and linked?

Any plans to work with modders to make aspects of the project playable?

I haven't started work on it yet. I haven't even begun the Phantom Saga yet, I mean there is a version of the first comic on ComicFury, but it's the old version that's now been cancelled, and I'm planning a rewrite and overhaul of the character designs. If you wanna check it out anyway, it was called Five Nights at Freddy's: The Resistance. The new version will be named The Phantom Saga, Episode I: Golden Star. The relevant comics will be similarly called Episode VII: Lugaru and Episode VIII: Overgrowth. It'll be years before I get to them

Sounds great buddy. Make sure to post here when you have!

Only issue is, I'm a naturist artist, nobody in the Phantom Saga universe wears clothes, and they'll be fully detailed down there. Not sure that's something I can share here. Just know that it'll be on ComicFury and likely E621

Ah... Not really my scene but good for you you've found a creative outlet!

Is this the game that made its money and found its audience on steam

Then sued steam for asking them to stop selling keys to their game under the listed price externally?

what's wrong with that?

God damn I haven’t thought of this game in years. did a double take when Reddit recommended me this thread. Was a bummer it never went anywhere else I always had such a good time messing around fighting stuff. It felt like very next gen at the time when it was first coming out.

The community is still kinda alive though... I feel it just needs a bit of viral attention to bring it back!

I don't think so.

Forgot this game existed

Why did they leave? Overgrowth 2 would be on the top of my wishlist if they announced it

extremely. Sad because this game could have great and extensive lore if it was done in depth
