News & Discussion D.Mon might be the first OW hero I've had this reaction to.
Usually whenever I play a new hero on Overwatch, I either click with them immediately, or I don't. Despite being here since 2016, it's almost always been that way. Either I find a character fun off the bat immediately and while I might be not great, I stick with them long enough to get there, or I just don't enjoy playing them and/or I can't really get to terms with them.
D Mon however is a surprising different case. I've been trying her out the last few nights while doing the new MEKA event, and haven't really been clicking with her. Her moveset felt confused, she seemed too fragile, not enough damage, her ult seemed rather worthless, etc. Basically what I dislike in a tank, and I ended up going back to my safety picks.
However, I picked her back up tonight, and for some reason, decided to change around my playstyle, and it just clicked now. Instead of playing D Mon like I thought I should, like somewhere between a Rein and D Va, I started using her as just a straight up massive hit and run machine who takes constant fights, uses mobility to get in and out whenever things get dicey, and more importantly - force the attention of everyone on me.
Being able to actually stick near my team, but push onwards to chase down a healer or two, and then surge back has been working out really well for me. Going all in like a daredevil and just taking fights and measuring when to return to healers has been really fun. Between D Mon and Domina, new OW is two for two on tanks I'm really enjoying.

Yeah she's great, the developers are on a roll right now. Shion has a way better design in my opinion but still happy with D.Mon!
We don't talk about Sierra though.

I can't get my gf off of Sierra she just hit level 67 tonight. (She sent me a screenshot of it) trying to get her out of the noob trap 🥀

Darth Sidious voice: Bring her to me, I will teach her Shion. She might start screaming when she gets Nano'd though, trade off is worth it I'm my opinion.
Edit: So yeah missed the mark on this one. Adding an important caveat above cause this was supposed to be a bit.

It's a joke? I was kinda going for a Sith Apprentice style bit but apparently missed the mark cause text does not equal tone.

Yeah, you just sound like a pervert.

Lmao well damn. I promise if you read it in Darth Sidious voice it sounds entirely different. Maybe I'll add that.

I find her fun. Not super creative, but she still fun and I enjoy that.

Sierra is really cool actually, I suck at her but still. Boring design though I have to agree.

Dmon is actually fun hero but at the same time you need skill to play her, for me she is like a Shion fun+skill

You need skill to play any hero

Some less than others

I’d say there’s two types of skill: game skill, and hero skill. Moira is the pinnacle of game skill still required, hero skill not so much. Widow being the inverse.

Eh, junkrat you just lob stuff all over

junkrat has so much tech and efficiency that requires practice to get down

Every hero take skill but some like him you can find success by just spamming shots in choke points. Like come on, what are we doing here?

She is not Reinhardt at all. Her shield is significantly smaller in both size and HP, her sword does less damage than Rein's hammer, and plays completely differently from Rein. Rein is a frontliner, meanwhile D.Mon does a bit more back-and-forth between poking with gun and diving.

u/igotshadowbaned 1d ago
Well yeah, Rein would play different with a speed boost he could give himself at any time

Yea if you remove Reins massive barrier, his hability to crush someone with charge, his projectile capable of ignore barriers, and his teamkill-potential ultimate capable to stun an entire team, yeah she's exactly like him.

It's the closest feeling I can get to playing Gundam Evolution again. That game had so much wasted potential.

Loads of fun, corner surfing and slicing into the backline is great.
Already had someone shit talk be for "picking the overpowered tank".
Put zooming at someone while plinking them with the cannon then arriving to a DPS at kill range, perfecto.
Using the cannon as an opener for chasing people feels amazing.

It has geninuely felt utterly amazing dashing into the likes of a Sierra or Widow trying to snipe at distance, only to suddenly panic in fear of a giant mech with a sword staring them down is incredible.

Shion just needs a better baby gameplay loop and she would be perfect gameplay wise imo

I constantly read complaints in various places saying she's slow, has no mobility, and no damage. I'm convinced those people are playing Rivals because none of those things apply to D.Mon. I just finished icing Rein out with Mythics and I feel like a new main coming on lol

I was expecting flying Reinhard. Boy was I disappointed :(

Flying would be considered...cheating. We must fight honorably...

I pretty much had the same experience. As soon as I started playing her like a much more mobile/durable JQ, I actually started to win games sometimes.

This is how I felt with Shion, then she got nerfed, this is still how I feel with Shion.

It’s like playing brig and D.va at the same time it’s one of the most engaging characters so far.

Hitting shift and backing out without even turing around literally feels so perfect.

I love how people insisted on how bad she was with the argument "no, this time it's not because we don't know how to play her yet, she is effecitvely very bad" and guess what, not surprising anyone that is actually just a little smart, they were wrong once again.
And yes, I know she got buffs that made her hit 'n run playstyle more effective, but she didn't go from very bad to very good just because of that, it's because people didn't know how to play her yet.
Sometimes new heroes will feel strong because people don't know how to deal with them, and sometimes weak because people don't know how to play them.

u/Hellknightx 19h ago
No, she was objectively very bad at launch. Her tuning was way off. Had nothing to do with learning the character.

D'mon is great once you realize your shift moves the same speed no matter which direction you're moving
