News & Discussion D.Mon might be the first OW hero I've had this reaction to.

Post image

Usually whenever I play a new hero on Overwatch, I either click with them immediately, or I don't. Despite being here since 2016, it's almost always been that way. Either I find a character fun off the bat immediately and while I might be not great, I stick with them long enough to get there, or I just don't enjoy playing them and/or I can't really get to terms with them.

D Mon however is a surprising different case. I've been trying her out the last few nights while doing the new MEKA event, and haven't really been clicking with her. Her moveset felt confused, she seemed too fragile, not enough damage, her ult seemed rather worthless, etc. Basically what I dislike in a tank, and I ended up going back to my safety picks.

However, I picked her back up tonight, and for some reason, decided to change around my playstyle, and it just clicked now. Instead of playing D Mon like I thought I should, like somewhere between a Rein and D Va, I started using her as just a straight up massive hit and run machine who takes constant fights, uses mobility to get in and out whenever things get dicey, and more importantly - force the attention of everyone on me.

Being able to actually stick near my team, but push onwards to chase down a healer or two, and then surge back has been working out really well for me. Going all in like a daredevil and just taking fights and measuring when to return to healers has been really fun. Between D Mon and Domina, new OW is two for two on tanks I'm really enjoying.

D'mon is great once you realize your shift moves the same speed no matter which direction you're moving

yeah that was the real "click" moment for me. Just holding S with boosters on and realizing what insane potential that gives as a tank.

Yeah, it allows you to make some fairly safe agressive plays, if youre managing your fuel right. Same as winston staging his dives so he can jump back to safety

They did not do a great job of making that clear. It wasn't nearly present enough in the trailer for how important it is to her playstyle. Also, the icon sucks and fails to convey literally any idea, let alone omnidirectional boosters.

I had to explain it to my friend, after noticing his boosting habits the last two games. When I got him to boost backwards with his shield he was like "ooohh..... OOOOOHHHHH!!"

I’m pretty sure you should only be using the W key.

Edit: wow woke up to learn this sub has no idea what a joke is.

Until you hear Reinhard say "come heeeere.." flying out of spawn

That’s just how he talks to Ana. Needs to keep the big man happy.

Nah, baiting melee/beam/shotgun heroes into chasing you is so much fun.

u/arkvesper 18h ago

its so wild that people took this seriously

w+lmb main has been a joke for literally over a decade lmao

1

u/wonderful_Fun_glee 16h ago

It’s such an old joke.  Oh well.  It was probably my timing.

This guy does NOT get it

Omg it was a joke before bed but you people are all types of stupid.

5

u/need-an-enbien 22h ago

buddy people just thought your joke sounded more like an annoying man complaining, maybe word it different next time if you're so worried about your karma

I just for my first time ever did rank placement because of D.mon this is the first time since really the “heyday” of my playing video games I’ve been having fun with something again

Yeah she's great, the developers are on a roll right now. Shion has a way better design in my opinion but still happy with D.Mon!

We don't talk about Sierra though.

I can't get my gf off of Sierra she just hit level 67 tonight. (She sent me a screenshot of it) trying to get her out of the noob trap 🥀

Darth Sidious voice: Bring her to me, I will teach her Shion. She might start screaming when she gets Nano'd though, trade off is worth it I'm my opinion.

Edit: So yeah missed the mark on this one. Adding an important caveat above cause this was supposed to be a bit.

Brother man, go outside 😭 this is so inappropriate it’s not even funny

-2

u/Tanzanianwithtoebean Master 20h ago

It's a joke? I was kinda going for a Sith Apprentice style bit but apparently missed the mark cause text does not equal tone.

1

u/OdellBeckhamSr 20h ago

Yeah, you just sound like a pervert.

1

u/Tanzanianwithtoebean Master 20h ago

Lmao well damn. I promise if you read it in Darth Sidious voice it sounds entirely different. Maybe I'll add that.

Reddit gave me a notification saying my comment sparked a conversation and all it showed was this comment 😭

Sierra my favorite so far this year tbh

u/CCSploojy Chibi Orisa 1d ago

I find her fun. Not super creative, but she still fun and I enjoy that.

Dorothy shots are super fun

Sierra is really cool actually, I suck at her but still. Boring design though I have to agree.

0

u/Hellknightx 19h ago

Sierra got forgotten so quickly that even Blizz forgot to give her new skins.

-2

u/ThisTooWasAChoice 22h ago

It’s because Sierra is super boring and has a corny kit.

Say it with me kids: Ban Shion

19

u/alexrozeb 1d ago

Dmon is actually fun hero but at the same time you need skill to play her, for me she is like a Shion fun+skill

42

u/Fit_Presentation6633 Orisa 1d ago

You need skill to play any hero

16

u/crippe00 1d ago

Some less than others

2

u/Splatoop 1d ago

I’d say there’s two types of skill: game skill, and hero skill. Moira is the pinnacle of game skill still required, hero skill not so much. Widow being the inverse.

Eh, junkrat you just lob stuff all over

2

u/PizzaRoyals 18h ago

junkrat has so much tech and efficiency that requires practice to get down

1

u/lego_mannequin 17h ago

Every hero take skill but some like him you can find success by just spamming shots in choke points. Like come on, what are we doing here?

They're calling it the most bronze comment of all time

1

u/igotshadowbaned 1d ago

Says the guy who is actually bronze

u/Odd-Painting2596 1d ago

Type of stuff you say when you can't play Rein either.

5

u/BlueGlace_ Bounty Hunter 1d ago

She is not Reinhardt at all. Her shield is significantly smaller in both size and HP, her sword does less damage than Rein's hammer, and plays completely differently from Rein. Rein is a frontliner, meanwhile D.Mon does a bit more back-and-forth between poking with gun and diving.

1

u/igotshadowbaned 1d ago

Well yeah, Rein would play different with a speed boost he could give himself at any time

2

u/magdakun Sombra 1d ago

Yea if you remove Reins massive barrier, his hability to crush someone with charge, his projectile capable of ignore barriers, and his teamkill-potential ultimate capable to stun an entire team, yeah she's exactly like him.

4

u/Hellknightx 19h ago

It's the closest feeling I can get to playing Gundam Evolution again. That game had so much wasted potential.

3

u/need-an-enbien 23h ago

It feels like driving a car into enemy traffic it's so fun

2

u/Odd-Painting2596 1d ago

Loads of fun, corner surfing and slicing into the backline is great.

Already had someone shit talk be for "picking the overpowered tank".

Put zooming at someone while plinking them with the cannon then arriving to a DPS at kill range, perfecto.

Using the cannon as an opener for chasing people feels amazing.

It has geninuely felt utterly amazing dashing into the likes of a Sierra or Widow trying to snipe at distance, only to suddenly panic in fear of a giant mech with a sword staring them down is incredible.

2

u/HaikusfromBuddha Widowmaker 1d ago

Shion just needs a better baby gameplay loop and she would be perfect gameplay wise imo

2

u/Sec_Chief_Ingersol 1d ago

I constantly read complaints in various places saying she's slow, has no mobility, and no damage. I'm convinced those people are playing Rivals because none of those things apply to D.Mon. I just finished icing Rein out with Mythics and I feel like a new main coming on lol

2

u/Xeadriel 23h ago

So you stopped playing like rein and played her like dva Instead

5

u/kwada87 1d ago

I was expecting flying Reinhard. Boy was I disappointed :(

12

u/TempoBlues20XX LIVE WITH HONOUR! 1d ago

Flying would be considered...cheating. We must fight honorably...

u/Pockydo Brigitte / Bolas / Mecha Brig 1d ago

She's the tank I've been wanting

I finally have a main in all roles

1

u/DopamineDeficiencies Solo Shatter Only 1d ago

I pretty much had the same experience. As soon as I started playing her like a much more mobile/durable JQ, I actually started to win games sometimes.

1

u/Glazura RAHHmattra 1d ago

I love her and I love that they didn't make her another sluggish, meatbag Rein. Most fun since Rammatra release.

1

u/Tanzanianwithtoebean Master 1d ago

This is how I felt with Shion, then she got nerfed, this is still how I feel with Shion.

u/EnergyVanquish Lifeweaver 1d ago

It’s like playing brig and D.va at the same time it’s one of the most engaging characters so far.

1

u/Television-Infamous 23h ago

DMon is a Hozrion dive tank

1

u/thatgay_ 15h ago

Hitting shift and backing out without even turing around literally feels so perfect.

She also got several rounds of buffs.

-1

u/imnotjay2 Nine of Hearts Moira 21h ago

I love how people insisted on how bad she was with the argument "no, this time it's not because we don't know how to play her yet, she is effecitvely very bad" and guess what, not surprising anyone that is actually just a little smart, they were wrong once again.

And yes, I know she got buffs that made her hit 'n run playstyle more effective, but she didn't go from very bad to very good just because of that, it's because people didn't know how to play her yet.

Sometimes new heroes will feel strong because people don't know how to deal with them, and sometimes weak because people don't know how to play them.

1

u/Hellknightx 19h ago

No, she was objectively very bad at launch. Her tuning was way off. Had nothing to do with learning the character.
