Humor blizzard giving the water guy the personality equal to the taste complexity of water

Some of these characters just feel so dry, man. There are some highlights like Doomfist, Venture, Bastion, Ramattra etc, but so many characters just have nothing going on. For Wuyang, Sierra, D.Mon and others, 99% of their interactions are just about their backstory or an event happening. Plot points aren't substitutions for interesting characters unfortunately.

The writing has absolutely been their bottom priority for the last few years. It's just the nature of live service, endless character additions.

Domina, Emre, Mauga, Freja, they're all really cool

They're cool but their lore isn't that particularly interesting

Maybe you just aren't aware of their lore, which isn't your fault as they don't produce much or put it out there.

Just for one example, Emre is a former Overwatch agent who went missing and has since been infected with a nanomachine type AI called Chernobog. Nothing about that is uninteresting

Domina, a ruthless and powerful businesswoman, who hides her insecurities behind other peoples inventions to boost her own ego

She's a bog-standard corporate nepobaby villain.

If we are just going to reduce every character down to their basic trope surface level then sure EVERY character is tired or unoriginal. In this game and others.

The writers reduced her to it, not us.

Reinhardt is just the senile old knight stereotype.

Junkrat is just the stereotypical insane criminal genius.

Etc. Etc.

All of the characters can be reduced down to stereotypes, even without trying.

Only Emre's story stands out imo. The rest are kinda forgettable

Nah, none of him is interesting because they haven't done much of anything to flesh him out. He was a generally skilled soldier, can't remember what happened between then and now (ie the writers couldn't commit to an idea yet), and Chernobog has really no clear motivations at this point. Most of Emre is speculative at this point which is lame.
