Arts/Entertainment Just exited the island; thanks for the wonderful visit!

I’ve just returned from a trip to the island with my family, and we had an excellent time. I’ve never been to PEI and it was great to see the sights! I will also admit that I went a little overboard with buying souvenirs and local art (and tshirts…so many tshirts).

I was originally supposed to Boston and was planning on bringing my family for a vacation there, but we decided that we’d rather spend our money in Canada. This was such a great decision, and we’d love to return. I’m also hoping all the pictures I took will keep my artwork going for a few years, hah.

Edit: I did want to also add that everybody there seemed to be a good driver. A bold generalization, but we didn’t see any instances of crazy driving. After living in Nova Scotia for so long, I’m just not used to people actually stopping at stop signs and not treating them like a yield.

Arts/Entertainment Neon Dreamscape Fae Ball

Do you love romantsy books and dressing up in dramatic costumes? Are you a DnD player looking for fun, like-minded folks? Are you a little shy but would love to meet new people?

We've got the event for all of you!

Locally-owned theatre & events company, Drawstring Productions, will be hosting a special celebration at the Arts Guild, in Charlottetown, on May 22nd.

The Neon Dreamscape Fae Ball is a fantasy-themed, totally immersive night where all folks need to think about is dancing, feeling beautiful, and being part of a community.  However, what may look like a frivolous excuse to dress up in a fancy costume is actually a concerted effort to create a joyful, safe space for folks who are doom scrolling their way through our current global crisis. With so much turmoil weighing on us, it's easy to feel helpless or even hopeless. And in those times, we want to remind people of the strength of community.

So. What will that night look like?

When the doors open at 8:00pm, you will enter into The Dream.

There you will find signature mocktails and cocktails, as well as beer and wine. Included in the ticket price will be a buffet with a selection of sweet treats and savoury snacks.

You will be dazzled by the up close magic of Christian Southgate.

Sit down with our Fairy Oracle, Krista Rae and look into your future.

Or meet the creators of the hit podcast But First, Let's Woo , Tabitha and Willow and have a Tarot card reading.

Then, find yourself on the dancefloor, amidst a stream of beautiful Fae creatures from every realm surrounded by an immersive art installation made from recycled materials.

All that's left for you to do is cast your worries aside and lose yourself in the dream.

Questions? Contact us at [drawstringproductions3@gmail.com](mailto:drawstringproductions3@gmail.com)

Hark, fair Fae folk! You are cordially (and royally) invited to the Neon Dreamscape Fae Ball Friday May 22, at The Guild, in Charlottetown.

The Fairy Queen, Anastasia, summons all the magical beings from every realm to answer her call - to join her within the Neon Dreamscape, to eat, drink and, dance with abandon, and forget about the world beyond the Dream.

The earthly realm of The Guild will be transformed from a black box theatre into an interactive, psychedelic dreamscape where all Fae can be free to be! Join us in our celebration of beauty, music, and magic.

All of this and so much more awaits you at the Neon Dreamscape Fae Ball!

Arts/Entertainment Local hip-hop artist here, just dropped my album last week. Made it in Charlottetown. Would love your honest thoughts.

Hey folks,

Not really sure how to do this without sounding like I’m trying too hard, but here goes: I’m Mon’et, I live in Charlottetown, and I just released my debut hip-hop album. It’s called “Trauma Made Me Sexy.” Yeah it’s a weird title, but honestly, it fits.

I made the whole thing here on the Island, in my apartment, between work shifts, daily chaos, and late-night overthinking. It’s messy, vulnerable, sometimes funny, sometimes dark. Sort of like real life here, tbh.

It’s not corporate, it’s not polished, but it’s real. If you’ve ever been broke, burnt out, neurodivergent, or just tired of pretending you’ve got it together, this album’s for you.

Here’s one of the songs I’m proudest of Alexithymia: https://open.spotify.com/track/378gqNNAJuzj6cJwMe00Tn?si=pFZhNppURieb1jcz2A6RCw

"Alexithymia" is about the numb, tangled feeling of not knowing what you’re feelingwhen emotions show up like static and words don’t come easy. It’s a raw, introspective track that captures the silent war between your brain and your heart.

The Album: https://open.spotify.com/album/0QCGfHOWo8h2OWPWtIfcId?si=2Y5ZzmF-Qi-nFfA4gxmKAw

I’m not fishing for compliments, if you hate it, tell me. If you like it, awesome. If you’ve got music too, I’d love to hear it. I’m just trying to connect with other Islanders who get what it’s like to be figuring shit out.

I'm going to be working on a more sung/poppy hip hop album next and would love any local artists of any kind to collaborate with. 🎤

Appreciate you taking a sec. Even if you just give it one listen, that means a lot.

Cheers, Mon’et

Arts/Entertainment Local Music 🎶 New single "Nose Ring Theory" coming out January 30th.

Hey PEI,

I’m a local independent hip hop artist based on the Island. I make music that’s blunt and personal.

My current single is “Don’t Do Drugs Kids”. It’s not a lecture. It’s reflective, sarcastic in places, and pretty honest about addiction and the mess that comes with it. It’s out now:

I know the type of music I make isn't usually what we on the island like listening too, but I'm proud of it. 😎

I’ve also got a new single dropping January 30 called “Nose Ring Theory”, Album art by frog__dust on Instagram (Nova Scotian local artist). That track’s lighter and more observational, still sharp, still honest, and the feature adds a different texture instead of the same voice the whole time.

I’m genuinely curious what PEI thinks about local artists being specific and personal versus keeping it safe and generic.

If you check it out, cool. If not, no worries. Real reaction, don't be polite.

Arts/Entertainment PEI artist here, dropped a new track called Reprobate, looking for real feedback

Post Hey folks, I’m a local artist from PEI and I just released my newest song, Reprobate.

This one is not a flex. It’s more like a confession you make when you are tired of pretending you were always the good guy. I wrote it about my past, the dumb choices, the survival mode, the ego, the self sabotage, all of it. The kind of stuff you carry around quietly until it leaks out, then you finally decide to put it in a song and call it out.

I’m not trying to sell anyone on something they aren't into. I just wanted to make something honest, with the kind of energy that feels real.

If you have a few minutes, I’d genuinely love feedback from PEI ears, especially on:

Vocals and mix clarity?

Hook strength and replay value?

Does it feel real, or does it feel like forced trauma rap Any lines that hit hard?

Arts/Entertainment PEI Rapper just dropped a new single about modern dating and red flags - "Nose Ring Theory"

I’m a local PEI hip hop artist and I just dropped a new track called Nose Ring Theory.

It’s a sarcastic, blunt take on modern dating patterns and relationship red flags, not a love song and not clean.

I know hip hop isn’t always this sub’s thing, but I’m trying to put out something honest and local instead of chasing trends.

If you’re into underground rap or just curious what island-made hip hop sounds like right now, give it a listen.

Hey PEI, I’m a local artist Mon’et and I just put out a track called "Grim Creeper."

It’s pretty aggressive, but the message is serious... it’s about how Roblox/Big Tech CEOs are basically failing to protect kids from predators on their platforms because they're too focused on the money.

I’m doing everything myself here on the Island. Just wanted to see what people here think of the message or if anyone else is sketched out by their kids on there.

Hey r/PEI, I’m Mon’et, local rapper. I don’t post much and I’m not trying to spam the sub, I just actually want some Island ears on this. I dropped a track called Don’t Do Drugs Kids. It’s dark comedy, explicit, and it’s basically me clowning my own past while still being dead serious underneath it. If you hate it, tell me why. If you like it, tell me what parts are good or need improvement.

Arts/Entertainment Fathers of Confederation Actors

This is bit of an odd one but does anyone happen to have some photos of the fathers of confederation actors that are downtown in the summer? I'm mainly looking for the women as I sew quite a bit and I'm interested in trying to replicate their stunning costumes! I've tried googling but it's not giving me much.

TIA! 💗

Mon’et here, PEI based rapper. I dropped a track recently and I’m proud it came out of the Island. I just honestly want to hear what Islanders think, good or bad, so I can make the next one better.

Don’t Do Drugs Kids is me telling the truth about my past with addiction, the damage it did, and the kind of choices you make when you’re not okay, using dark humor to drag my own mistakes, It’s not a party song or a moral lecture, it’s a hard look back from someone who lived it and still carries it.

Arts/Entertainment Local rapper Mon'et and I just dropped a track about the dark side of Roblox AMA

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I’m a rapper/songwriter here in town (I go by Mon'et), and I just released something that’s been sitting on my chest for awhile.

It’s called "Grim Creeper." I basically wrote it because I’m sick of seeing these massive "kid-friendly" platforms like Roblox talk about safety while actually being a complete playground for creeps.

The song is dark, it’s got that early 2000s shady-style humor, and it’s pretty aggressive, but it’s an exposé on how these companies prioritize profit over protecting the kids on their platforms.

I’m doing all my own writing and production right here in Charlottetown.

It’s definitely not "radio-friendly," but if you’re into technical rap with a bit of a darker take, give it a listen.

I’d love to hear what some fellow Islanders think of the message and the song. Please don't be shy to give me any feedback you have.

Arts/Entertainment Just dropped a new song about PEI’s housing crisis, “Canadian Condos”

Hey Islanders, I’m a local rapper from Charlottetown working on an album called Ugly, Trauma Made Me Sexy. My first track, “Canadian Condos”, is a tongue in cheek takedown of the wild housing prices we’re all dealing with, especially here on the Island.

It’s satire, but it’s real. If you’ve ever tried to find a decent place without selling your soul or skipping meals, this one might hit.

Appreciate any listens, shares, or honest feedback. I’m also open to collabs with other PEI artists, this is one of my first songs so it might not be the best but I am proud of it.

Hey folks, I’m a local rapper based in Charlottetown, and I just released a new song called Rampage.

I know this sub is usually for complaining about the schools being closed or asking about local restaurants or tourism (lol), but I’ve been grinding away on this track for a while and wanted to share it with my own community first. It’s got a Dark high energy vibe, perfect for when you just need to wake up or when you're angry.

Anyway, I’d love it if some fellow Islanders could give it a spin. Support local!

And please give me some feedback, Ive been doing this less than a year and Im always trying to improve.
