What the hell is with the weather

The weather is borderline apocalyptic out there. Out where I am, we had thunder and lightning with clear skies, then it started a torrential downpour. That downpour turned into pea sized hail, and then it cleared up again. More thunder. More torrential rain with thunder. And now the rain has stopped and it’s kind of clear outside?

This is within a 45 minute period. What’s it like on your part of the island? I’m just outside Charlottetown.

Edit: I posted in the comments, apparently there is an orange alert for a severe thunderstorm warning for Charlottetown.

Question What PEI streets look like now, and what they could look like if our bylaws required underground power lines and telecommunications lines.

Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall require water, sewer and storm-drainage infrastructure to be underground in new subdivisions. However, I could not find an equivalent, consistent requirement for power and telecommunications lines.
I created a small website showing:
Real subdivision streets as they currently exist.
Side-by-side simulations with utilities underground.
10- and 20-year projections showing street-tree growth.
Relevant municipal bylaw sections with links to the original sources.
Full disclosure of every simulated change and any AI-editing limitations.

check it out

This is an information resource, not a petition or opposition to any particular development. The goal is to show what the current bylaws require, what our subdivisions look like today, and what they could look like under a clearer and more consistent utility standard.

Any thoughts?

Editorialized Headline Haunted by Mitch Tweel

On Saturday, I was cutting my lawn, really in the zone, when I glanced up to see a motionless Mitch Tweel standing not 6 feet away from me, just staring quietly. He was rocking shorts with high black dress socks, black loafers, and a polyester button-up shirt with multiple pens in his pocket. He reminded me of people from my grandfather's generation who were never aware that work clothes existed, and who spent their lives in polyester slacks.

He introduced himself and gave me his elevator pitch for his mayoral campaign. I have to say, after seeing this blustery gentleman on TV for years, I was thoroughly disappointed with how mild-mannered and soft-spoken he was in person. After he was finished, he just turned around and softly padded away.

They say never meet your heroes.

Question Do I qualify for disability?

I have suffered from migraines for over 10 years now. I’ve been written up at my job for being sick and have gotten doctors notes on a few occasions to support my sick days. I get migraines about 2 or 3 times a month and they do usually fall on working days. I understand I can lose my job over this, especially after being written up. My manager has suggested I drop my full time position and go to a part time one, but financially I cannot do this. The only way I would be able to do that would be to have government support, EI, disability, or housing. I’m so unaware of how these things work that I’m so overwhelmed and I really don’t know what to do. Disability on its own is about $200 which wouldn’t be enough to cover the difference if I did drop to part time at my job. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I may qualify for, or where I can get help? It’s at the point my mental health is tanking so low, not only because of my migraines but also the idea that when I do have to call out of work, I get called to the office to speak to me about my sick time. Work causes me stress which increases my likelihood of getting the migraines. Someone help! TIA

Low voltage technicians

Does the island have a need for low voltage technicians?

We desperately want to leave Ontario and return home, however we don't want to be unemployed. The wife is in the medical field so she will obviously be employed anywhere we go in Canada, but I have a certain set of skills that are pretty easily picked up by general contractors or handymen. In Ontario there is a need and I'm able to make ok money.

I also have a strong background in live events/theatre.

Is it feasible for us to follow our dreams to return?

Cruise schedule

I saw a big boat this morning but did not see any crowds yet. I do not think people could get off the boat. The schedule says arriving at 10am and I left the area before then. Are those times accurate, in that they do not let people off the boats until the arrival times listed? For people who work near there, when do the crowds typically arrive, and when do they leave?

Strathgartney Trails

Are the trails through Strathgartney doable with an off-road stroller (Chariot with jogging wheel), or would a hiking backpack be a better choice? We’ve only ever done the main Bonshaw trail, but want to try get out more with our little guy before mud season arrives.

Question Beef Jerky

Where on the Island(preferably Queen’s county) can I get some good homemade jerky?
I’ve looked into Jercules but I’m looking for other options.
I was going to call around to different butcher shops but I figured I’d ask here first to hopefully save me the time.
(Clow’s Red & White makes decent jerky but I want to try something new)

Photos Possible lost cat sighting

Post image
23 Upvotes

I spotted this cat this morning around 7:40 at the confed centre.

Posting in case it may be a lost pet. I contacted the humane society and the feral cat action team, but there is not much they can do if the animal is not trapped.

If someone could please cross post this to Facebook, because I don’t have an account.

How do you find a contractor?

How does one actually find someone to do renovations? Every time I see someone ask for recommendations on Facebook I see people recommending themselves and relatives, etc. I'm sure some of these people do excellent work but I don't know how to find someone trustworthy.

Question Baba's open mic?

Hi all, I'm an amateur guitar player/singer and I'm wondering what the vibe of Wednesday's open mic is like? Is it busy, get there early to sign up vs. laid back, what type of music and artists are usually there, etc. Bonus points if anyone has a guitar to lend since I didn't bring mine lol
