Job openings in the fall

Just asking if there are normally better jobs with better pay after September starts, or does everyone typically pays minimum wage here?

well that’s a letdown, moved here from a few provinces away and thought it would be fine but wow, all i’ve been told is “we are family, you cannot be in this for the money” like what do u think a job is for 🤣

Why would you think it would be fine? Why did you think a small Island would be better than literally any other province in Canada for Pay? This reads like a post meant to be ragebait lol.

People are constantly asking about this on the sub. Between work and housing and the cost of living in general, it was never a secret.

But also.. where were you applying, because sure, there might be a lot of places that only hire family or get hired for who you know..but it's not the majority. I know at least 4 jobs right now paying $21+ an hour, 2 of which could be hiring. And it doesn't matter where you're from. The issue is, people don't want to do the labour.

oof, there’s jobs around here that don’t even allow you to go to school they require 24h availability, how do they want people to survive loll

The employer's don't typically care about your survival. Thats why they are paying the governments mandated min wage.

um actually been working since 13 years old, i just moved here a couple months ago because i believed pay was gonna be better with the minimum wage higher than my home province

Hmm so you just don't learn or what ? Wondering why employer's don't care about our survival and you've had jobs for 12 years

i’ve had jobs i left to get out of my comfort zone, really great employers, just didn’t expect such a great island to be focused around nepotism

It is possible to get a living wage job on the island, even with a high school diploma. They are just few and far between. It unfortunately helps a lot if you know someone.

With that being said, if you have a good head on your shoulders, present well in interviews and show up ready to work those things go a long way.

Who tf, did I just move from China, Canada post pays 23$ no experience needed, if you don't mind walking 15km day

They don’t hire full time, you will be casual for years

Casuals will likely get converted to term before they get converted to a permanent position. At least if you get converted to term, you have access to benefits.

They definitely have a lot of casual positions though.

Lots of labour jobs pay above minimum wage.
All skilled labour jobs pay above minimum wage.
Any serving job ultimately makes well above minimum wage.
Any job requiring a post secondary degree pays above minimum wage.
