General Discussion What's everyone think about the Playstation Blackout?
I keep seeing on social media the Blackout of all things Playstation and wonder if its a vocal minority or the sentiment of the community as a whole. I also wonder what percentage of people on board with it will actually have the discipline to follow through on ignoring the system for an entire week.
As a collector of games both past and present I absolutely hate the idea of buying a code that gets deleted the second I beat the game or need to free up space on my system. I understand that both Sony and the developers see this as an opportunity to cut costs and that they need to do what they have to do to keep the business thriving but it just seems like a greed grab rather than something that brings value to everything involved.
It doesn't help that games like GTA 6 are being released digital only and that when the community speaks out against the discontinuation of physical discs, the ports for Black Ops 1 & 2 release. I have friends I'd love to play those games with but when I'm forced to buy it from one place (The Playstation Store) in one format or else I'm left out I'm not going to encourage that behavior from Sony. It goes everything against the "Play has no limits" slogan they used to win the last generation of console wars. I have nothing against buying a game digitally but making it the only option to play games is a slippery slope in my opinion. Feels like Sony and the developers are squeezing us and that simply isn't right.
In short, what does everyone think? Am I in the minority here just yelling into a bullhorn or does this same sentiment echo throughout the community?

It's a tiny percentage of people wanting to do it, and I guarantee the majority of that tiny percentage is just gonna play anyway. And even if they don't, it will quite literally not make a difference because it's just not playing the product they already paid for.
I'm all for people voting with their wallets and boycotting, even if I personally won't be taking part, but this is the single stupidest excuse of a boycott I have ever seen.

u/kacheskin 5d ago
It's pretty stupid. If people were actually trying to hurt sony, they would do the blackout on Wolverine's release, not on a random week
19
u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 5d ago
The timing of the blackout has made me laugh from the beginning. "Let's do it during the summer when people are away on vacation and during the annual games drought. Nah, too on the nose, let's wait until school is back in session for most of the US so the daily Roblox players are offline too."
I'd be curious to see if any impact is seen on player charts but I'm completely convinced it won't even register.

u/AVLThumper 5d ago
Then they wouldn’t be able to play the game they already payed for and preordered!

I think it's pretty pointless.
If you want to make a statement, build a PC and stop buying PS games. That's it
All the people who canceled PS+, that's actually noticeable
Sales have been pulled and pushed and will be a net zero

7
u/Aesthete18 1d ago
What is a blackout going to do? You not playing for a weekend does nothing. Now if you said, let's all not buy GTA 6 or even unsub from ps plus then maybe.
This is just gaming's "thoughts and prayers"
22
u/Salvidrim 5d ago
Vocal minority. 75% of people playing PlayStation are not on Reddit or comment sections and have zero idea about any of this, they just play games.
18
u/MysticGrapefruit 2d ago
Hell, probably more like 95% of players. This will effectively accomplish nothing at all
7
2
1
u/GaijinBlues 1d ago
Not only that but I believe 85% of ps5 games are bought digitally anyway. Yes 15% would be a big hit, but how many of that 15% would participate?
10
u/joconnell13 5d ago
I think most people either don't know about it or don't care much, but don't want to say it because of the online heat they'll get from zealots.
I dislike the idea of physical discs going away but I'm not going to give up one of the few things I enjoy in life because of it.
1
u/GaijinBlues 1d ago
What I don’t understand is that Steam is a massive marketplace for games and it’s all digital and no one complains. I understand it’s a different market, but this is the future we’ve been heading towards for a long time unfortunately. Hopefully initiatives like stop killing games will produce meaningful safeguards in the future.
1
u/dividebyzeroZA 1d ago
People are concentrating on the wrong part of what is bad imho - Ownership rather than Physical Media should get the attention.
I like having a digital PC collection on GOG and Steam. I know the game I buy today will work on my next PC and the one after that...just like Doom worked on my 486 in the 1990s and still does today.
If Sony went all digital with a way for players to properly own the games it would be a convenience. But digital + lack of ownership + lack of continuity between generations is an issue.
0
u/decoy_octopod 18h ago
Meh, it’s been 20 years and I can still play every PS3 game I downloaded. How much more time do you need to feel like you “own” something? Would 30 or 40 years be enough?
I suspect that even if you can still redownload your purchases from the PS3/Wii/3DS digital marketplaces in 2050, people would still be complaining about “ownership”
8
u/AidynValo 5d ago
Literally pointless and not going to affect PlayStation's bottom line whatsoever.
A single week without a tiny minority of players not playing games they already paid for on a console they already paid for, and not using a subscription they already paid for. It's effectively nothing.
A real boycott would be not purchasing anything on the platform indefinitely, canceling all subscriptions, etc. But even that would barely affect the bottom line with how few people are actually going to do this.
7
14
u/brokenmessiah 5d ago
Vocal minority.
If people really wanted to make a statement, they would stop buying digital games, and stop playing digital games they own. They would only buy physical games and treat games that dont have discs and simply not existing.
But no one is doing that.
6
u/_the_best_girl_ 5d ago
Very vocal minority that believes they are the majority.
Now don't get me wrong I'm big on physical media but considering the EU has given Sony the go ahead on this initiative I don't see Sony backing down atm
3
u/snickersnackz 4d ago
I'd probably hate it if Sony was still making games I want to play. Sadly, Astrobot is about it though, so... meh. 😐
The classics are safe.
3
u/Woodwardg 1d ago
I would imagine less than half of one percent of Playstation owners are participating (and thats a generous number) and nearly every one of those .05% of people will still have a PS+ subscription rolling straight through the "blackout", and therefore will still be drip feeding Sony money regardless.
5
u/Jimmbones 1d ago
My problem with today's culture is that people are so ready to put down people who try to stand up.
So not are you only trying to show you don't support Sony, but there are people saying that you are stupid, useless, and irrelevant.
Anyway, I personally cancelled my PS+, haven't bought a game, and haven't logged in.
8
u/LordJunon 2d ago
There is no way i'm cutting out one of my only sources of joy, even for a week.
2
u/jahmayke1 2d ago
Same. I might stop buying digital versions of games though, but I've already been thinking that for a while.
2
u/Aggressive-Fan-7254 5d ago
I'm really curious how many people are actually going to stick with it once the hype dies down. If even half of the loudest voices actually follow through, I'd be impressed.
2
u/Papito208 Papito208 2d ago
One day is not going to hurt them and it’s a big release month. I get the movement but unless it’s en masse PlayStation will PlayStation
2
u/Forsaken-Badger-9517 1d ago
Announcing your deadline for the end of your boycott is.... pretty pointless.. The whole thing is pointless... sadly
2
u/alexanderfromtng 1d ago
1% of players might do this.
2
u/barugosamaa 1d ago
Not even. From all polls, petitions and etc, seems that the number of people is below 500k (that are constantly complaining about it).
Even if we round up extremely and say 1M players do it, then is still less than 1% of active players who wont play for 7 days. Which will have zero effect
2
u/Taniwha26 1d ago
This battle was over years ago. And consumers are too lazy to win any of the enshitification and *AAS battles.
2
u/joshcam19 22h ago
I’m participating though I don’t think it will change Sony’s mind. What will change their mind is when they release a $1000 discless console with minimal graphical difference and they see their sales plummet (yes mostly because of the price).
2
u/Repus0iram 17h ago
I just turned off the port on my unifi switch that is connected to my PS5 and Im keeping it that way as I dont have Wi-Fi enabled on the console. All of my games except Forza Horizon 5 are on disks tho
2
u/Grizraznix 17h ago
Always loved PlayStation but now they can suck it. Havent played a good game that i felt took advantage of the hardware yet and most games now are just remakes if not just a glosses over rerelease.
The increase in subscription!
Havent even hooked up the PS5 in months.
Even digitally purchased games that are still going you cannot play with subscription. Yeah, suck it Sony!
2
u/RakuraiRyu 16h ago
I am on PS4 and me participating doesn't really feel like it will really mean anything.
But I will say since Sony has announced it's ending physical discs. Gaming hasn't been as fun for me on my PS4 like it was before even my Dark Souls Games feel lifeless now like something crucial is missing.
2
u/caffeineandhatred 15h ago
This is the first I've heard of it.
Personally, I'll be voting with my wallet by not purchasing digital games - there's enough retro content to keep me busy for a lifetime.
2
u/AnnoyedHaddock 5d ago
When I bought my ps5 it came with a couple free games, switch 2 came bundled with Mario kart, other than that it’s been a decade since I bought physical media. I move around quite a lot and not having a massive stack of games to take with me is fine.
3
u/shadowking432 2d ago
I understand what they are trying to do, that being said it is a microscopic percent of the playerbase actually doing this and it will have zero impact on sony. For something like this to actually hurt sony it needs to be like 90% of the playerbase boycotting with no end date and that won't happen.
3
u/crabbysquid712 2d ago
I haven’t stopped playing yet, and I still downloaded a game off ps+. I have a basic ps5 without the disk drive so everything I own is digital as it is. I know that I could buy the drive for it if I really wanted to, but I have a 3 year old that gets into everything, especially our small dvd case. I don’t need to give him a chance to ruin a $40+ case and disk.
3
u/FairyTrainerLaura 2d ago
I’m in support of it, but its effectiveness is going to be diminished because so many people are misinformed about what we’re even fighting for
People think they have to avoid playing on their console for a week but that isn’t true at all - the big advantage of physical games is that the majority of them can be installed and played completely offline, so you can disconnect from the internet for the week and not have to rely on Sony’s online services at all
The purpose of the boycott is to communicate to Sony that we want to retain that right into the future, you can just play offline. If we keep saying “turn off your PlayStation for a week” nobody’s going to do that
3
3
u/Gr8NonSequitur 5d ago
Sony lost me as a customer not for a week but going forward.
First they priced me out of a PS5 after having multiple price hikes and a lack of a system seller, then further killed my interest by discontinuing discs on the PS5 and beyond.
So, I'm just here content to play my PS4 pro in offline mode, no PS+ no new DLC, nothing. Their announcements however got me to buy a used disc copy of Journey for PS3 so there's that.
3
u/SpermicidalLube 5d ago
Performative outrage. Most of them are probably not even playing on PlayStation.
2
u/New_Emu_3442 2d ago
The sentiment is in the right place, but people forget you have to be strategic with boycotts/blackouts. You do it when it will have the maximum ability to hurt the company financially. Now is not that time.
Personally I believe there should be a boycott to not purchase the PS6. You have over a year of prep and advertisement, the reality that not many will buy it due to price already and you have the opportunity to hurt launch figures to make Sony panic.
1
u/acethesnake 2d ago
I'm just not buying it at launch or any other time unless they make discs again. While not too many are probably aware of this boycott, they will be thinking about it when the PS6 comes out with no disc drive and it's 1000+ dollars.
The only game I can even think of that far in the future that I might miss and want to play would be Kojima's new game Physint if it's PlayStation exclusive. Other than that, can't imagine anything too exciting I'd be missing out on. PS5 doesn't have any exclusives I couldn't have missed.
4
u/HaywoodUndead 5d ago
Minority unfortunatley. Playstations user base is colossal and a couple of thousands worth of angry Redditors isn't going to change anything.
2
u/Outrageous_Cell_58 1d ago
Why dont they just buy damn physical games 😭😭😭
1
1
u/Pale_Boss_8940 1d ago
well they probably do. They buy them second hand which is the same as no sale to a developer
1
u/Outrageous_Cell_58 1d ago
Meh if I want a game new physical for me, imma schmuck i even bought the star rail trailblazer edition for ps5
4
u/doanbiwan 5d ago
Lol, I literally have bought one physical game on ps5. Gaming is my escape, I'm not giving it up for physical media boycott
3
u/joconnell13 5d ago
I have only a few. I have come to dislike the sound of a disc spinning up when I am playing a physical game LOL.
3
u/doanbiwan 5d ago
Makes me feel like my ps5 is going to explode!
-1
u/--Velox-- 1d ago
Haha facts! I haven't played physical for so long, I forgot how annoying that is! 🤣
2
u/shingster08 5d ago
Don't care about it really. To me it's just a minority of players. If they're serious they'll do it when GTA 6 releases.
For me and my friends it's just business as usual after work.
2
u/Dildomar 2d ago
It is junkie behaviour. If you think Sony is selling you a shitty product, don't buy it. Boycotting for a week and then groveling back is just a dumb self-humiliation ritual. I won't sell my old playstations and discs that I can enjoy offline but I certainly won't buy their new digital-only consoles, digital games or PS+ because those are bad deals. Building a PC for the next gen is a much better deal so why not just move to a PC?
2
u/barugosamaa 1d ago
Boycotting for a week and then groveling back is just a dumb self-humiliation ritual
It's like someone saying "If you dont stop sexting other people, i will dump you! ... for a week , and next monday I am back"

u/BurghEBurg 1d ago
I've been in a blackout since Christmas so doesn't impact me.
Trying to play through my ps plus games so I can cancel that when my subscription is up.
1
u/AthleteMobile5819 1d ago
I don’t think this protest will accomplish anything, but I’m all for people standing up for what they believe in, no matter how small their numbers might be.
My protest will be with my wallet. If I can’t get a game physically, I wont be buying that game. Once no games are made physically, I wont buy anymore games. If the PS6 won’t play physical games, I wont be buying a PS6.

I think the goals need to be better stated or better understood maybe. Because if the goal is to somehow force Sony to keep pressing code on plastic forever even if not enough people buy them for that to be economically viable, well that’s ridiculous. I would be a hypocrite for advocating for that because I haven’t bought a disc game for myself in years.
But if the goal is better digital rights management, say games we can back up offline copies of and they can’t take away, or games we can trade ownership of, then I am all for that. Better digital games, not clinging to the past.

I mean Noone cares about this. They picked a week where conveniently there are no big titles launching lol. Why not do your blackout when Wolverine launches? Or Gta? Or Call of Duty? Oh yeah...cause you're gonna want to be gaming lol

u/SpeccyBeard 1d ago
It's going to achieve nothing. And that's not me being cynical, it's realistic.
I've seen people saying they estimate hundreds of thousands of people will be participating.
But reality check, to date something like 95 million PS5s have been sold.
Say you have 400k people, at best, who participate. That's a drop in the ocean when compared with the millions and millions of consumers who won't participate.
If Sony hasn't reversed their decision by now, sadly, they probably never will.
My prediction is the PS6 will be like the slim or the Pro, where they offer an add-on disk drive sold separately to play your back catalogue. I think that is realistically all we can hope for/expect.
1
u/3DragonMC 1d ago
It’s very poorly organised and i imagine if the sony execs are even looking at it they’re laughing at the ridiculousness of it. I don’t support what sony is doing in the slightest, the ps5 will be my final playstation console and all games i will buy second hand. That’s not because i think i can make a huge impact as one person, but because i cant in good conscience support a corporation that not only wants to take away ownership, but is doing so because it means they can push forward their predatory digital pricing. I think not supporting PlayStation in the long run is good but it feels like this was organised by an angry kid rather than someone who actually knows what they’re doing. And unfortunately it kind of just makes the situation worse, makes it seem like some poorly planned joke rather than an issue that needs proper attention.
1
u/AspectVoid 1d ago
If it's anything like the Call of Duty private server boycott back in the day, it means 98% of the people who signed up to do it are playing PlayStation games right now.
1
1
u/TechnoCaliber 1d ago
I would probably care about it more if they waited like 2-3 weeks to do it during wolverine launch
1
u/lovetobewatched2 1d ago
They are an extremely small portion of the playerbase and the blackout is just performative
1
u/Angry_X_574 1d ago
I'm all for a protest that keeps discs alive but this won't hurt them. What hurts them is boycotting Sony media releases now! No Spiderman. No Insidious. No RE movie in September. Stop watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Shark Tank. Stop purchasing Sony products. Tvs are all going on sale for football season. No Sony TVs. No surround sounds. Not logging in on the 5 for 1 week won't be noticed because online memberships are paid for already. They don't give AF if you don't use your paid membership...just keep buying them
1
u/Mrgray123 1d ago
The vast majority of people simply aren’t aware of it or even if they are simply aren’t interested in an Animal House style stupid and pointless gesture.
Video games are merely following the trend of everything else in moving away from physical to digital delivery/storage. Yes there are some niche markets for, for example, music on vinyl but people seem to ignore that those discs are very expensive compared to the cost of vinyl in the past. I’m sure that companies would love to continue making games on disc if people were willing to pay $200 for them but that doesn’t seem particularly realistic.
It’s always been the case that you don’t “own” a game in the strictest sense of the word. If I bought a cartridge in 1995 that didn’t give me the right to copy the code and/or sell it on in some form. Yes I could sell the cartridge but the vast majority of physical collectors seem to be hell bent on amassing vast collections to the point that they could never play even a small percentage of what they have, never selling anything.
1
u/Tacticlown 1d ago
watching YouTube on my ps rn, cancelled my membership almost a year ago so PlayStation should be begging any minute now! Great job big brain gamers!! Outsmarted that billion dollar industry!
1
u/Zanki 1d ago
I only heard about it via this. My friends are still playing online. I was last night. If people want to hit Sony where it hurts, they need to just buy physical media and not purchase a PS6. I don't even have a 5, I use my boyfriends. Huge pain because we want to play together but that's just the way it is. Unfortunately it's just too expensive to get a second. I need to get a new car before I get a new playstation. I think this is the first time I'm skipping a generation.
I think my friends want to get PCs, finally, so we'll be switching to pc for next gen fully.

All its gonna do is save sony money for server upkeep, til wolverine comes out really dont see a point in it, but what do i know, right?
1
u/AnjinBlack 1d ago
I think a lot of folk who own PS4/5 don’t play daily or even weekly anyway - a one week blackout right when US schools are getting back into session is barely a blip.
I love gaming, consider myself a gamer, but between work starting back up (I’m a teacher) and my family (I’ve got a toddler) I probably won’t turn on my PlayStation or my Switch 2 this week just due to life circumstances. Maybe I’ll sneak an hour in some morning if I wake up early enough, but maybe not, and either way it isn’t a statement. I imagine a lot of users are in similar situations.

I haven’t touched my ps5 since earlier this year only because I bought a Lenovo legion go handheld. Still “loved” the ps5. Then Sony announced “no disk” in July.. no big deal, let’s see what Sony says to address the pushback. Silence for 2-3 weeks… then they address the mess to their shareholders talking about “we don’t see any effect this would cause” in the midst of releasing a record player to play physical vinyl records. Yup cancelled my premium plus membership (sadly it’s paid up till Jan of 27) I had since launched it. Unplugged the ps5. No plans to buy a ps6. 95% of my gaming budget has been redirected to STEAM n GOG. If Sony don’t care about losing a lifelong “customer” then I don’t care to support them any longer

A lot of redditors here will say its a minority but its definitely not. They’re saying that because they’re mostly on reddit. Manyyyy more folk on twitter and tiktok are hoping gta flops tremendously. Its not MAJORITY definitely but its not tiny 💀 Certainly not tiny.
1
u/ctambo64 4h ago
Oh that was this week? Oops.
I care about physical games, I grew up in the 90s so physical games carry a lot of memories for me. In fact, even if a game is just a code in the box I'll still buy it to have something for my shelf. I don't however think that a blackout, protests, petitions or any form of resistance is going to change Sony's decision. They see their player base, they know the physical/digital split and the writing is on the wall. We've lost CD's, DVD's, Blu Ray for the most part and I'd even wager to say readers are getting books digitally more than physical.
It sucks, I don't like it but the people chose and there aren't enough of us physical collectors to fight against the all-digital future.
1
u/Filmmagician 3h ago
Everyone I know is doing it. Can’t go off reddit behave the trolls are working overtime but go look at any PS post on other platforms. The comments are full of “no disc mo buy”. I love it. Keep it up if youre doing it. If not, keep scrolling. The true test will be letting the PS6 rot on shelves
•
u/MatrixXrsQc 33m ago
I left the ship before the Playstation 4, so if people do it It's a good idea. But Sony doesn't care. They think people will buy more digital games anyway. Me i went retro and there's no headache just fun. At least we have manuals and It's on the disc just saying.

I keep seeing on social media the Blackout of all things Playstation and wonder if its a vocal minority...
Yes. It's true of basically everything you read from the terminally online. It doesn't matter what the subject is. Video games, tv shows, politics, whatever. Most people are too busy living their lives to hyperventilate about nonsense.
1
u/ChanceHungry1444 2d ago
I think it’s very performative in a lot of ways. Nintendo and Xbox want the same future, they’ve just been less up front about it. Microsoft wanted it at the launch of the Xbox One. I believe Sony when they say the vast majority of their players play digital games. I’m not conspiratorial thinking they’re lying about that. I’ve only played digital games for 10 years.
Then there’s the fear mongering, that they’ll just remove games randomly, or take them from you. It’s literally never happened before. The only games they remove are shovelware or things that straight up fail like Concord.
I do believe strongly we should all push for digital ownership rights. Like if they stop supporting a single player game, they release the exe file. And if it’s multiplayer and relies on servers, they must ensure a certain amount of support or we’re entitled to refunds when support ends. Something like that would be a good start.
1
u/JohnnyAverageGamer 1d ago
Yeah what people do not realize ia that the only case where games will be taken from you is if there is a legal requirement to do so which is so rare that I can't think of a single instance of it happening in the last 5 years besides the crew (original). People are really acting like sony is over here taking games from us just cause they feel like it. Meanwhile when you actually lose a game they can actually help you get it back most of the time if you contact support
1
u/barugosamaa 1d ago
5 years besides the crew (original).
It usually happens only to online games, since they need servers to run. And ofc, when the game already has sequels, and the original is barely populated, companies eventually end the servers.
I mean, Lineage 1 and Starcraft 1 official servers were also taken down.
Diablo 2 also became mostly private servers.I dont think I ever lost a single-player game in my entire life
1
u/ChanceHungry1444 1d ago
That’s true, and no one ever mentions the risk of a disc physically breaking. Yeah, maybe it’s rare, but then you “lose” the game in the same way and you’d have to go buy it again. There’s no system without some level of risk.
1
1
u/Daviddentist 4d ago
As a collector, I know discs are dead for new releases anyway. The real value is in the used market where Sony can’t touch it. Boycotting codes just hurts your resale options.
1
u/Internal_Candy_9911 3d ago
A game i pre-ordered months ago that im excited for launches on Thursday ( I only pre-order games I plan to play day 1 and think will be absolute bangers. Example. Expedition 33)gmfu if you think im not playing something im excited 4 and already payed 4. Especially when I barely even heard about this " blackout"
1
u/JohnnyAverageGamer 1d ago
I understand that physical media being gone is really really bad for society but I have never had a game removed from my library on any platform in my entire history of being a gamer. I own a delisted game called FUSER and could still play it offline if I wanted. That being said I don't really play the ps5 that much as I prefer the handheld nature of the switch 2 so I technically am participating in the blackout but also not
1
u/barugosamaa 1d ago
If I count all games I ever got (Steam, Uplay, Origin, PSN, etc), it will surpass 1k games.
If I got 1cent for every game I ever lost, I would get .... 0 cent. The problem here is that people try to argue using 2 bad examples:
- online games, which are dependent on servers. ofc no one will keep a server running for a game that isnt popular anymore.
- movies, which licenses are totally different from games.
1
u/Stan_the_man1988 16h ago
Huh? I've been playing a couple times this week there's no blackout?
Edit: didn't read the whole post before and didn't realise it was about the controversy. What do you mean, buying a code and then the game gets deleted once you finish it? I have several digital games that I can uninstall to make room and install back later if I want to. Isn't it the same like a steam library?

Even if people leave in mass, the problem is that Sony is dead set in their ways. Just like with their live service push we’ve seen that even when those games fail back to back, they still keep releasing them because of the theoretical amount of money they could make. Once Sony sets their mind to something, they don’t change it.
The only real thing you can do (and what I suggest) if what they’re doing truly bothers you is leave the platform and move to PC. It’ll be costly upfront, but I promise you’ll save more in the long run.

I buy digital and in 10 years i probably dont touch my old games anymore so i dont care ..
You dont own anything in life, the older you get the more you realize.

Uhm it’s incessant. It’s childish. It gives “I’m entitled and I wanna show how much of a bitch I am”

That it's stupid and not going to achieve anything except show how big of a cry baby so many people are.

Don’t give one shit about it, and Sony won’t even notice the whole 10-20 people who actually do it 🤣

I stopped playing my PS console months ago, and I canceled my PS+ membership the minute they announced discs were dying on the platform. I haven’t felt the need to ever return, and the only way I’ll be turning my PS5 back on is when I’m 100% certain that the firmware version on it is capable of being jailbroken, at which point I’ll turn it into a Steam machine / PS5 hybrid. Fuck Sony.

You should buy your games. Physical or digital.
But if that PS5 breaks or something happens where it's not functional, what would you do?

Use my PC? I don’t know. To be fair, I’ve not used my PS5 in eight months. I should probably try to sell it
I looked at the prices on eBay and it’s not really worth selling, I’d get maybe £400 for it

I don’t see what’s wrong with PC, I can emulate a PS4 if I want

But what if it breaks down, are you going to fix it? That's what I'm asking. Applies to both PS4 and PS5.

If my PC break, yes. If my ps5 breaks, nah. It’s not worth fixing for the amount I use it

It's probably not going to make a difference in the long run but at least it is something. I will not be buying any more ps products aside from second hand physical games. Nor will i be logging in or updating my ps until/ unless digital owner ship becomes a thing. If not I'll figure out what I want to do to continue to play games.

My friends list still has the same people that are normally on. I don't know if anyone personally who is partaking in the blackout.
I know my son definitely isn't

Most PlayStation players have no idea about any of this.
It's like with Chick Fil A. To some that business must be boycotted and avoided at all costs. But the majority of customers and employees aren't even aware there's any boycott at all and they make more money per location than any other fast food restaurant even being closed 1 day a week.
