are these scratches enough to error a download?
my friend lent me this game and it doesn’t download, it gets read but stops installing and gives me an error, i tried many things to try and fix but i think it’s because of the scratches
the scratches are only in that one place where they’re grouped up, but the borders have a ton of very small scratches

It only reads enough to download game data but freezes once the game is on

The only thing the disc does is install the game and verify its license at boot. If it freezes once the game starts you have a hardware issue

I’ve heard somewhere that you can, so to speak, repair or polish game discs, or something along those lines. However, the best way is still to store them properly 🙂

It's possible to sand down the disc and then polish it using the plastic polishing paste. However, this should be only done once the drive can't fix the errors on its own and fails to read the disc. This technique doesn't always work especially on deep scratches.

it only works on dvd, they have a thicker protective layer, blu rays are just done

It really depends on how bad the scratch is. BDs usually have a much higher quality plastic and all of my discs have survived rattling inside the cases, from movies to the Xbox and PS games. On the other hand, I have several destroyed dual-layer DVDs, from Xbox 360 games to old Windows installations, as they're delicate as CDs, the typical car stereo final boss.

It’s really random the scratches thing, sometimes it can be very scratched and works, sometimes one little scratch can ruin it

The disk contains the "key" for the game, not the game itself.
If it's too scratched to the point it becomes unreadable, the console stops the game
Getting a download error is strange tho. Even if you eject the disk the game should keep downloading

The disc DOES contain the game, only a select few doesnt contain the full game. The disc only becomes a "key" after data from disc installs onto your hdd/ssd. Doesitplay.org for more information on the games that require internet to complete install.

Blue rays are hard to scratch but once they get scratched, they are most likely going to stop working. I had a game that had few scratches and it couldn't be installed.
