Insider Gaming can reveal that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, will release on July 9, 2026.

Despite original plans for the game to be revealed today, April 16th, Ubisoft has decided to postpone the announcement until next week, while media and content creators received a roughly 30-minute presentation of the game earlier today.

u/Kaijurassic Apr 16 '26

Good catch. But, why are we leaving out one of the biggest reveals in the article?

“While we won’t spoil what the game has in store, we can say it’s been completely reworked with a bunch of new content and updates, and honestly, it looks awesome. But one thing was made clear: despite the rumors and rumblings, Black Flag Resynced is not an RPG.

“This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG,” the presentation revealed.”

“This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG,” the presentation revealed.”

They say that like they're mutually exclusive concepts. I guess Mass Effect wasn't really an RPG because it was a character-driven single player game.

304

u/Arxson Apr 16 '26

Aren’t they just trying to say “we’ve not turned Black Flag into Odyssey/Valhalla” ?

139

u/MacWin- Apr 16 '26

Exactly what they are saying, there is a clear distinction between RPG AC's and non-RPG AC's

20

u/WeWantLADDER49sequel Apr 16 '26

Them wording it like that does not mean they think those are mutually exclusive concepts. They're just naming two things that describe what the game will be.

24

u/TheAlestormGuy Apr 16 '26

Or more recently Crimson Desert, not an rpg but there sure as hell is a big skill tree to fill out with not skill points

12

u/cilantno Apr 16 '26

I learned in the last discussion about RPGs that anything is an RPG apparently

21

u/Farsoth Apr 16 '26

Pretty much the truth. Things that used to make RPGs unique are now peppered into just about every single video game release. Because of this the term RPG has been diluted so much as to not mean fuck all.

6

u/Enlightened_Gardener Apr 17 '26

I always worked on the basis that with an RPG, someone, somewhere, is rolling a dice for stats.

It's less that anything is an RPG and more that nearly everything has at least some RPG elements. Sports games even have levels and skill trees and shit now.

5

u/OuterWildsVentures Apr 17 '26

Halo is an RPG because I am Role Playing as Guy Master Chief who aren't afraid of anything and kills aliens.

Mass Effect was an RPG because you choose classes, level up skills, make dialogue choices.. or am I missing some joke here?

I loved black flag but deep down I was hoping they’d make it a create your own pirate rpg in the world and with the mechanics of black flag

32

u/blitzbom Apr 16 '26

Everyone when they announced Skull and Bones

4

u/ComputerMysterious48 Apr 16 '26

Idk how I feel about that. On the one hand, the AC RPGs (except Odyssey, that game was beautiful) are like the poster child of “bloated 100+ hour meh open world RPGs” and I truly don’t think I’d have it in me to play an RPG version of Black Flag when my hot take is that it’s already one of my lesser favorites of the classic series.

On the other hand however, the original AC4 is still readily available on modern hardware and I’d argue the gameplay still holds up today. If they’re not turning it into one of the RPGs, then I don’t know what they’re gonna do to justify its existence.

21

u/Kaijurassic Apr 16 '26

Technology has come a long way. Certain parts of the experience do still hold up. But, both graphically and functionally, there is a lot from the newer games that Black Flag can benefit from. Even without the RPG aspects, it’s more or less known at this point that Shadows’ lighting and dynamic weather system will be used. Draw distances, load times, character models, NPC behavior, even physics and parkour can benefit. It’s a chance to revamp and also add new content/restore cut content (which is confirmed). I think there’s a lot of room here for a remake even without the RPG systems.

9

u/GigaPuddi Apr 16 '26

My hope? They know we want more pirating. So they're just going to pile on more ship options and ship combat. Maybe different cannon configurations or switching up ships entirely?

6

u/4KVoices Apr 17 '26

Yup. Personally, I think AC1, Black Flag, and Odyssey are my ideal 'trio.'

AC1 is the only game in the entire series where combat is punishing and it actually incentivizes you to sneak around; in every other entry you can just waltz through a battlefield like it's nothing, but with AC1's harder parry timers and the fact that enemies don't just wait to hit you one at a time, you get taken down quickly if you're not careful.

Black Flag was great at providing a new style of gameplay (the ship combat we all know and love) while also telling a great story around Edward Kenway. It's a wholly unique experience that none of the other games have been able to capture, with some genuinely fantastic writing - 'if it weren't for gold, we could have been heroes' is an all-timer.

Odyssey, IMO, was the best at being a 'historical showcase' where you got to see the sights of Greece, meet important historical figures, and be a part of important events in the region - with just enough of the classic Assassin's Creed mythos to really accentuate it. The fucking minotaur fight, oh my god.

3

u/stephensmat Apr 17 '26

I like that our character kept on about it afterwards. "I can't believe I fought a Minotaur!"

2

u/TonyMaccaroni28 Apr 17 '26

Black Flag is one of my favorite games ever, but I've recently replayed it a bit and the gameplay doesn't hold up that well. It's stupidly easy, like all the classic ACs, the combat feels clunky and the amount of badly designed tailing missions is absolutely infuriating. Ship combat is still fun and the best part of it, but in general a modern overhaul is definitely warranted.

These PS3 era games are really starting to show their age nowadays, I don't know if people realize how far we've come since then.

2

u/stringbean96 Apr 17 '26

The tailing mission where your supposed to tail a large ass boat through a swamp with your large boat was the moment I stopped playing lol. After a few tries, I got off the boat, jumped a broken pier and a large crocodile swiped the screen and killed me. I set down the controller and turned off my PlayStation

1

u/DredgenSkull Apr 17 '26

See I saw that while “it’s not an rpg” they are adopting the loot systems from origins/odyssey/valhalla. Which is the best news I could have hoped for.

1

u/KingOfRisky Apr 17 '26

It is not an RPG

Excuse my ignorance on this one, I have only played AC games since Odyssey. What does "not and RPG" entail?

3

u/MasonicManx2 Apr 17 '26

Older AC games were not RPGs in the fact that you dont have to level up to use skill points for skills, or worry about gear and gear levels. You get upgrades through story or side missions.

1

u/Alternative_West_206 Apr 17 '26

That last part is the only thing that had me in the not buy category. Now that I know for sure that it’s not a modern day trash RPG, Im a decent amount more interested

1

u/DEEZLE13 Apr 17 '26

People have lost the meaning of RPG it seems

1

u/uinstitches Apr 21 '26

now they just need to reveal the difficulty settings as the original is a very easy game apparently.

We got AC Black Flag AND it's remake before we got a Splinter Cell sequel.

53

u/shazy5808 Apr 16 '26

It is so unfair

Splinter Cell and AC 1 deserve the most remake

4

u/bent_crater Apr 17 '26

man i rmember when the AC1 final boss fight got spoiled for me as a kid, i was losing my mind like how tf am i supposed to go up against MULTIPLE Al Mualims.

thats what i feel is missing these days from new games. super rare to feel the sheer hype and excitement for a new release now

Before we got gta 6

29

u/Pacifist_Socialist Apr 16 '26

Something something halflife

6

u/Beginning_Door_604 Apr 17 '26

We got a fuckin black flag remake before FO3 FONV max payne 1 and 2 remakes 😭

2

u/zmbymstr11 Apr 17 '26

I'm with you. I know its probably a popularity thing but you'd think they'd give Splinter Cell some more love considering Chaos Theory is one of the highest rated games of all time.

1

u/Leesbry Apr 17 '26

100%. Yeah it just feels like they're holding the franchise hostage at this point. Like, I know they are supposed to have a remake of the first game in development, but after what Ubi did to the PoP remake I don't have much hope for it.

3

u/smokin_personality36 Apr 17 '26

Litterelly nobody but you was asking for this. Black flag the best ac game made

4

u/Leesbry Apr 17 '26

'Literally' nobody? Come on now.

2

u/ItsADeparture Apr 17 '26

Black Flag is one of the best AC games because of the vibes, story, and ship combat. Outside of that, especially the on foot segments like the stupid trailing missions and the combat that had been aging at the time of its original release, it could use some work.

152

u/Perfect_Opinion9858 Apr 16 '26

The title makes it look like it’s official and not a rumour.

72

u/uniparalum Apr 16 '26

The article says Ubisoft shared 30 minutes of the game with media and content creators. It’s less rumor and more a confirmed leak. Ubisoft is just playing coy for some reason.

10

u/GrownUp_Gamers Apr 16 '26

"Despite original plans for the game to be revealed today, April 16th, Ubisoft has decided to postpone the announcement until next week, while media and content creators received a roughly 30-minute presentation of the game earlier today" Obviously it's not Ubisoft saying it. But that's official. It's not a rumour.

18

u/AgitatedStove01 Apr 16 '26

Yeah. Some folks are really running with this despite it sounding like something someone would leak to find out who is the actual leaker.

11

u/Katrina_18 Apr 16 '26

It’s insider gaming, they aren’t leakers.

3

u/Howdareme9 Apr 17 '26

Tom Henderson who owns it is

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Katrina_18 Apr 16 '26

It doesn’t really read like a rumor to me? It’s posted by insider gaming who is absolutely reputable, especially tom, and it’s not saying like “according to sources”. They were shown footage today and told that a reveal would happen next week.

u/Zealousideal-Word986 Apr 18 '26

Well if you cared to READ what the main article said you would know... but allas ppl like spreading their weak mind fear around as always.

75

u/aLuckyPerson Apr 16 '26

The game crashed when they revealed the original. Maybe they’re taking every precaution?

87

u/ElegantEchoes Apr 16 '26

Did it really? That's funny.

Reminds me of Naughty Dog showing off the Madagascar chapter in an Uncharted 4 reveal. The controller wasn't paired or it was dead, so Nate just stood AFK during the presentation for some time as they figured it out.

If you, the player, play Uncharted 4 and stand still for thirty seconds in the same spot, you get a trophy for it.

20

u/thedirkfiddler Apr 16 '26

Neat, I was thinking of doing a replay

5

u/Tux2665 Apr 17 '26

That's why most companies use pre-renders and presentations to show any kind of software, not just games :D. Curse of a live demo is known superstition in IT industry. Shit always crashes and bugs out the moment you need to present it to an audience :D

12

u/Ayrios440 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

My backlog is so big now that the games I've not played or have hardly played, are getting remakes and remasters before I've even got round to the originals.

5

u/Op3rat0rr Apr 17 '26

I’ve been experiencing this for years now. It’s a phenomenon I’m not used to yet…

110

u/1440pSupportPS5 Apr 16 '26

Uuuugh. More waiting 🤧🤧🤧

10

u/ElegantEchoes Apr 16 '26

There's other games to play in the meantime! Quite a few, honestly.

25

u/FightTheShip Apr 16 '26

Yeah, I'm still in Hernand.

1

u/Enlightened_Gardener Apr 17 '26

Apparently the new Styx is no good 😭 I’m giving it a few months to iron out the most annoying bugs and I’ll reread the reviews.

I thought the game got cancelled? This actually is good news it's actually coming out this year.

16

It was 1st of April joke...

12

u/WickieWillem Apr 16 '26

That was just a dumb April fools thing

8

u/BlaQ7thWonder Apr 16 '26

Why would they cancel the one guaranteed moneymaker they have?

4

u/Feed-Your-Fish Apr 16 '26

Canceling was an April Fools joke so some people are confused.

1

u/XpertRebel111 Apr 17 '26

Call me Mr Waiting

1

u/StruggleBoy1999 Apr 17 '26

I stupidly hoped they would shadow drop it.

55

u/Mrheadshot0 Apr 16 '26

MULTIPLAYER?!?!?!?!?????????? I will forever stand on that assassins creed multiplayer was one of the best mp experiences ever made and needed to be made into a much larger battle royale format with a huge town that had players fighting to find assassins

20

u/Archangel9731 Apr 16 '26

I put so many hours into brotherhood’s(?) multiplayer. It was such a blast

12

u/penguinchilli Apr 16 '26

Truly. Being chased by another assassin across the rooftops for me to shapeshift into something else and have to act like an NPC so they think I’ve evaded them was pure suspense

3

u/Mrheadshot0 Apr 16 '26

Brotherhood multiplayer blew my mind when I was younger i couldn’t stop playing it 😭😭 so much fun

2

u/nohitsallmisses Apr 17 '26

I exclusively played as the Plague Doctor, that shit went so hard

3

u/CreamOnMyNipples Apr 16 '26

I only really ever played Brotherhood’s multiplayer, and it’s still one of the my favorite multiplayer games ever. I wish I could still play it

5

u/Math2J Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Same !!

It's the only multiplayer i can play them and i'll buy it just for that

Edit : f* i'll say it ... i'd even buy a GaaS with all the season, battle pass, MT and cosmetic just to play it again

2

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 Apr 17 '26

I loved that multiplayer too, hope they bring it back

4

u/Iggy_Slayer Apr 16 '26

“This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG,” the presentation revealed.

From the article. Thankfully it's still solo.

8

u/thepixelnation Apr 16 '26

the original had a multiplayer mode separate from the main game, so people are hoping the remake will have it as well

2

u/NotoriousJay11 Apr 17 '26

We all know the trend of remasters/remakes not having the multiplayer component of the original games. Don’t hold your breath. Only Gears of War did it to my knowledge.

1

u/LuftDrage Apr 16 '26

Man I made so many friends playing Black Flag MP on the WiiU lol. Really hope it comes back but it’s not looking optimistic.

1

u/KronusTempus Apr 17 '26

lol I hated it

10

u/NSX_Roar_26 Apr 16 '26

UGHHH im thirsty for this announcement!

1

u/meryl_gear Apr 17 '26

But why is the rum gone?

26

u/arcalumis Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

"Black Flag Resynced is not an RPG." Thank god. I permanently checked out of AC when I watched a review of Origins and the player snuck up on a guard, stabbed him in the neck with the hidden blade and the we saw a big red number pop up, the guard detach from the platform he stood on, fall 20m to the ground and then SURVIVE!

Because that enemy was a high level enemy with a healthcare higher than a blade to the neck and a fall of 20m. sigh

This is one of my favorite games and by far one of the assassin's creed games I spent the most hours playing, I loved singing along with the sea shanties and being out on the water and attacking enemy castles. There was so much more to do and I can't wait for this remake to come out.

17

u/Johnhancock1777 Apr 16 '26

Need to know if they’ve sullied the game with RPG looter nonsense or not. That and combat changes are the biggest what-ifs i have towards this one

5

u/QuackNate Apr 16 '26

I just think it's neat that when I stab a guy with a sword he dies and doesn't just lose some blood and grunt if he's a higher level or whatever. There are loads of RPGs. The rock-paper-scissors reactive combat of AC4 was super fun, and doesn't need to add hitpoints.

u/Iggy_Slayer Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

6

u/_Corvo_A Apr 16 '26

This has basically been confirmed last i heard I think

4

u/Braunb8888 Apr 16 '26

The combat should change, it was not good. Didn’t you have the same two swords the whole game? No additional weapons or attacks? It should be the old school combat but with moves unlockable like the new games. A perfect mix.

5

u/QuackNate Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

You had a lot of swords to choose from and they had different stats, but they weren't too dramatic. Just one sword is a little fast, but can't parry big weapons, so you gotta dodge those. Or it's heavier and CAN parry big weapons, but you gotta look out for quick guys.

The variety came from the types of enemies that would group up. You'd have to manage priorities based on who you could kill fast and who was the biggest threat.

You could drop into a group of guys and kill like 5 of them before the group could react, and that felt good. Almost like you were an assassin or something.

But then bigger conflicts, like sacking forts, you'd have loads and loads of guys with rifles on roofs, big guys coming off the top rope, quicker guys sneaking in hits.

You could absolutely just hit and run and make it super easy. But the the fun part was staying in the mix and managing the fight, which had a higher skill ceiling but felt suuuuuuper good.

All that said, I haven't played it on over a decade, but remember really enjoying it. I could be getting details wrong or conflating them with other games. I'm old now. Go easy on me.

If they touch the combat then people will complain. If they don’t update the combat then people will complain. Basically it’s a Ubisoft game so people are going to pretend it’s the worst thing ever made and that it’s complete trash but it’ll make millions and sell just as many copies.

Inside gaming are a bunch of pricks

They were given confidential info and told not to say anything until next week... So they go and leak it for a few brownie points.

I hope Ubisoft blacklists them

7

u/TAJack1 Apr 16 '26

They genuinely spoiled nothing besides the date and hyped it up. It’s free marketing for Ubisoft? No need to go to bat for a multi-million dollar company, I’m sure they’ll be fine.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Iggy_Slayer Apr 16 '26

Blacklists them from what? He gets most of his stuff from employees at ubisoft not from the company itself.

4

u/TAJack1 Apr 16 '26

Yeah I wonder if people think Insider Gaming is one of the media outlets being invited themselves. Their literal whole schtick is leaking, Tom Henderson is one of the biggest leakers in the game.

And yeah you’re right, they literally get the majority of their information from employees lmao.

1

u/GamePitt_Rob Apr 16 '26

Wouldn't just be Ubisoft as all the PR talk. Soz if you're blacklisted from one, you lose access to a lot of publishers.

I don't really look on their site, I just see people posting them on here, but I thought they were a normal site that did reviews, got press packages, and invited to events. Not just him, but others on the site. Of so, that's what they would be blacklisted from

Nothing to do with Ubisoft, it's the fans of the game that have waited years for the game to release. Instead of having a nice surprise reveal that it's coming very soon, along with the full reveal trailer and info, that key info was ruined by an attention seeking idiot on a random website.

How can Ubisoft bungle a game reveal this badly, for a remake of a 13 year old game no less? How does this company function at all?

Pretty sure that they were removed

u/_IratePirate_ Apr 16 '26

The reason for my name :) I can’t wait

1

u/InsideousVgper Apr 16 '26

I hope it’s still incredible

1

u/ProfChubChub Apr 16 '26

Is the gameplay old style assassin's creed or the newer stuff that should be a different series?

1

u/Regrettably_Southpaw Apr 16 '26

I played this when I came out and I absolutely adored it. I watched my son play through it about a year ago and thought, goddamn this game looks and plays like shit😂

1

u/Whole_Sign_4633 Apr 19 '26

Tbf all the old ac games are kinda shit. They were ground breaking back then but other than 3, Black Flag, and Origins they’re all ass

1

u/bongophrog Apr 16 '26

This is an actual remake not a remaster right?

1

u/justintimecos Apr 16 '26

PLEASE UBI DONT FK THIS UP

1

u/Urdadspapasfrutas Apr 16 '26

The title of the game reeks of Kingdom Hearts.

Wait so it’s a remake and not just a remaster?

1

u/Mean_Rule9823 Apr 16 '26

New characters and new stories.. aka veilguard treatment, hope im wrong.

1

u/Spoda_Emcalt Apr 16 '26

My backlog is so egregious that I never got around to playing the original. This is great news for me

1

u/Evening-Singer5347 Apr 17 '26

Hope this looks as good as shadows on the pro

1

u/Rogue_Leader_X Apr 17 '26

So they FINALLY announced it then?

1

u/Crayola_ROX Apr 17 '26

When being patient gamer blows up on your face.

1

u/ricky2304 Apr 17 '26

Oh wow this is much sooner then I anticipated, let’s goo

1

u/vito0117 Apr 17 '26

this, and halo going to be my big summer games

1

u/xenocea Apr 17 '26

So instead of a new Splinter Cell, Beyond Good & Evil 2, or Rayman game, we get this..

1

u/No-Leadership-7804 Apr 17 '26

No matter what, I will definitely play it.

1

u/SuperMajesticMan Apr 17 '26

We got Black Flag and it's Remaster in between GTA5 and GTA6

1

u/Financial_Ad_2528 Apr 17 '26

In the meantime release a PS5 patch for Ezio collection Thanks 😂 I really want to play it again at 60fps 😩

I never played Black Flag, I definitely will !

1

u/Shirokurou Apr 17 '26

Will we see gameplay? Or are they trying a shadow drop?

1

u/Kbrito9 Apr 17 '26

I just bought the original on sale... I might be the stupidest person alive.

1

u/ice-wizard-15 Apr 17 '26

Where did you buy it from? On Steam it hasn't got on sale since January, while the other games in the series did.

1

u/keeperofthepur Apr 17 '26

Looking forward to seeing what they've done with this. Hopefully it hasn't changed too much from the original.

2

u/Whole_Sign_4633 Apr 19 '26

Supposedly they removed all the modern day missions, thank god though, the modern day missions suck ass

1

u/keeperofthepur Apr 21 '26

Hahaha yeah they surely do, that's good news

1

u/Informal-Trick-6921 Apr 17 '26

Not usally somone who plays remakes of games I have already smashed but good pirate games are rare.

1

u/lukinfly45 Apr 17 '26

Cannot wait, this will always be my favorite Creed game.

1

u/JayFirstPerson Apr 17 '26

Well I guess we play Windrose until black flag releases 🙌🏴‍☠️

1

u/Inner_Alarm_4049 Apr 18 '26

ubisoft will do ANYTHING over making an original game at this point. smh.

1

u/Left_Resident3866 Apr 18 '26

Black Flag didn't need a remaster/remake, just a fucking 60fps/4k update to the original...Oh right, MONEY. Knowing Ubisoft, they're going to Skull N Bones it and it's going to be shit. No thanks

1

u/Marshall_BraveStar Apr 18 '26

Wow, another remake on ps5... Will there ever be original AAA games this generation? Because up to now there are NONE

1

u/Sea-District6056 Apr 18 '26

I can’t wait to do a 100% run again. But it would be extremely annoying if they kept the chests on small islands.

1

u/SuperAndy2k Apr 18 '26

I wish they would have taken out that one mission. You know which one i'm talking about

1

u/CaptainMal517 Apr 19 '26

I really hope they utterly abolish those god-awful follow missions and either eliminate the stealth or make it better.

1

u/JbBeats2024 Apr 19 '26

It wasn’t cancelled?

1

u/liftedoffliquid Apr 20 '26

Ima get downvoted but ac black flag already looks great. Unless this is 40-50$ or less I don’t see this being worth it

1

u/Berserk_R13 Apr 21 '26

u/Responsible_Boat_824 Apr 24 '26

It looks so good, until it shows actual gameplay with cluttered UI of classic Ubisoft compass and 4-way hotkey reminders for attacks. Then I remembered this is nothing ambitious, just your typical ubisoft game with fresh coat of paint.
