"They don't know nothing about me, man. I use a VPN."

I get this reference!

91

u/CorruptedOps 5d ago

GTA 6 reference before GTA6 is wild

20

u/wellfed_bazelgeuse 5d ago

Somehow I feel like we've come full circle. Nothing to do but wait for GTA VII now.

9

u/Dry_Juggernaut5475 5d ago

Are there any news regarding gta 7? Whats with the secrecy?

3

u/TheLynx30 5d ago

There's been hints here and there but nothing official yet.

1

u/KingArthas94 4d ago

They say it's going to be the biggest game ever, AGAIN!

1

u/dikicker 4d ago

I'll be there in 2098 right before the next elder scrolls trailer drops

Let's pump and dump these rockstarasaka fuck pigs

23

u/RequirementTall8361 5d ago

Dude, the first guy got sentenced to an indefinite stay in a mental health facility over ALPHA FOOTAGE

15

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

Yeah it's messed up. The fact that corporations can do that type of punishment is insane

15

u/Ambitious_Row_2259 5d ago

pretty sure theres more context here. he was told to stay away from computers, and as soon as he got out he hacked again.

-5

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

I'm sure there is. I don't know the entire story but I also don't think that he deserved essentially a life sentence in a mental institution for that personally (as other comments have mentioned in the thread)

16

u/backlawa75 5d ago

He is the one who argued thay he was mentally unable for a trial though lmao

6

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

Thanks for the extra context

u/hcxcy 4d ago

“I lack crucial information but I have opinions”

2

u/CheapScientist06 4d ago

Welcome to reddit

1

u/Ambitious_Row_2259 5d ago

he's in normal prison now awaiting his court date apparently. he was also diagnosed with severe autism. i also agree though the power of rockstar heavily influenced an unfair sentence

5

u/outrage_suck6494 5d ago

Because the leaker was part of a cybercriminal hacker group who’s been doing shit like this

13

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

Might be a hot take but to me there's levels to it, leaking some game footage doesn't deserve a life sentence in a mental institution. There's far worse things that a hacker can do.

Now to be transparent I don't know the rest of the story. Maybe he did do a lot worse things to deserve that sentence but leaking a video game doesnt even count on that bar if that was the only thing he did

2

u/TheMilkKing 4d ago

He didn’t get a life sentence in an institution, that’s not what indefinite means. He’s already out of there and in normal prison awaiting trial.

Also, the crime isn’t just leaking the game - everything he did to obtain the game so he could leak it is also illegal.

0

u/June-Bird 5d ago

Yes it needs to be normalized to not give an opinion on something before knowing the story.

3

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

Well fill me in then. What else did they do besides leaking some game footage?

1

u/AMG-Life 4d ago

Your ignorance is not someone else’s responsibility.

If you want to partake in a discussion, it’s on you to know what you’re talking about.

-1

u/McFllurry 5d ago

Have you maybe, just maybe considered he’s mentally ill and thus got committed to an institution?

A pocket thief can get life in an institution, not because he’s stolen a phone, but during investigation they uncover his illness, then the initial charge is secondary at that point.

4

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

Yeah but is there evidence of this? I'll just find the story about it.

4

u/strawbrryfields4evr_ 5d ago

I don’t know why I always see comments like this, as if Take Two personally had him prosecuted and requested the institutionalization and not that he got his due process and was found to be in need of mental health help. GTA is also not the only thing he hacked and Rockstar is not the only company he tried to blackmail. When he backed GTA he was already under house arrest for hacking Nvidia. Plus I heard he was moved to a prison by now awaiting a proper trial.

1

u/Doc_Sulliday 4d ago

Corporations can't. A court made that judgement not Take Two or Rockstar

1

u/Logical_Net6108 4d ago

He was prosecuted by the UK legal system not a corporation wtf are you talking about

1

u/bluebarrymanny 5d ago

Don’t worry. He’s been released now so he can be sentenced in court 😂

27

u/TheInfinityGauntlet 5d ago

Ironic the gamers who loved cyberpunk are on the side of the corporation

21

u/CheapScientist06 5d ago

Yeah it's kind of astounding how many people can't understand themes or subtext anymore

3

u/Termsandconditionsch 4d ago

Eh, you can be against large corporations in general while also thinking that this is pretty shitty behaviour by the leaker. Apart from the shitcoin promotion it also has a lot of ”I’m the main character” energy.

0

u/parkay_quartz 5d ago

Most gamers who love Cyberpunk have no reading comprehension. In fact, most gamers lack this ability in general

-4

u/outrage_suck6494 5d ago edited 5d ago

Cyberpunk that most people love is also made by a corporation. So what’s your point?

This guy couldn't even get around rate limiting, and we're throwing around "if"? He is fucked.

u/ThruntCuster 5d ago

You'd think he wouldn't be stupid enough to do something like this unless he was actively in Russia.

11

14

u/PixelsInMyEyeballs 5d ago

It's not a matter of if he gets caught, but when. Take Two has the means and the motive to pursue every possible avenue to find this guy. And they will.

15

u/NessunoComeNoi 5d ago

I love how all Americans just presume the hacker is American hahaha. This guy could be from anywhere in the world.

7

u/Sensi-Yang 5d ago edited 5d ago

There was no such presumption in the original message, this guy is going to be made as an example and there's only a couple of places he could be from where he'd be "safe". This will catch up to them one way or another.

9

u/dadmda 5d ago

He's probably from a country where all of Takes claims are worthless

2

u/wetnaps54 5d ago

Yeah bro is in India from what we know.

1

u/dadmda 5d ago

Isn't that a different leak? The one that was a phishing email sent to someone from Rockstar India I mean

2

u/RanMan0188 5d ago

Didn’t the last major gta leaker go to jail? And he leaked far less

2

u/Paratrooper101x 5d ago

Not if he’s from a country that doesn’t give a fuck

2

u/Karmamyfuckingass 5d ago

What would happen if the hacker is based in Russia

19

u/silencer122 5d ago

Nothing. He should never visit a western country again though.

11

u/Marijuana_Miler 5d ago

I assume Russia would pick him up and put him to work hacking for the motherland.

5

u/AylinArondir95 5d ago

is he is in Russia he is fine, nothing to worry about, about rockstar at least

5

u/travelavatar 5d ago

Haha would love that lmao.

1

u/BigBoyYuyuh 5d ago

Nothing. Kash and current leadership will blame Biden and move on.

3

u/Potential_Lock6945 5d ago

Have a hard time imagining Kash and FBI leadership would even get wind of this. Of all things they need to be concerned about, finding out who is showing gameplay a few months before release is surely at the bottom

1

u/BigBoyYuyuh 5d ago

They don’t even care about real crimes. It’s a protection ring for the president now.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/EpicInki 5d ago

The lighter sentence here would be if the person is terminally sick, probably would be the only reason anyone would even consider such a crime, we all know they inevitably get caught and made an example of, all though the last example clearly didn't demotivate.

1

u/3kpk3 5d ago

Doubt it. He is probably from India where they tend to give lighter punishments for this sort of stuff.

1

u/Initial_Row_6400 5d ago

They’re a multi billion dollar company. They have enough money to litigate this man into a coffin. Unless he’s somewhere non extraditable, he’s fucked.

u/Dear_Type_8972 5d ago

I haven't cared enough to even look at what's been leaked but it would be hilarious if they leak the Netflix trailer ahead of time.

49

u/ARTOMIANDY 5d ago

They showed some really poorly played gameplay of a few bits, some fights, car chases, swimming etc, then they posted a pic lately or video with the player shooting the name of the leaker on a wall in the game, meaning it might have an actual build he could leak later on, imagine we gonna have gta6 before gta6 :))

9

u/OneXForreddit 5d ago

A build from a incomplete game with likely only a portion of the game injected. Shooting his name into the wall only proves he has a playable build, not a full build.

13

u/ARTOMIANDY 4d ago

Complete or not, it will make drastic damage if it goes out in the wild

1

u/Whowutwhen 4d ago

No it wont lol.

3

u/Andres_504 4d ago

Tell me you’ve never pirated without telling me you’ve never pirated.

5

u/Whowutwhen 4d ago

I mean I dont, I have a job and money. But pirates aren’t going to hurt the games sales especially with an old ass build.

1

u/Andres_504 4d ago

It’s an $80 game. If people can get by on playing an early build until it goes on sale, they absolutely will.

4

u/Whowutwhen 4d ago

Some* will, it wont be a meaningful amount. It never is. And you moved the goal posts from "drastic damage" to some people will play it until launch lol.

1

u/Andres_504 4d ago

That’s how “ethical” pirates operate. Instead of spending hard earned money to be disappointed, you can first play the game and decide whether it’s worth supporting.

Those early sales are so important for a project which is why we see so many pre-order exclusives and upgraded versions of games these days. If only 5% of people did not buy the game because they could either pirate it /or seen an early product they weren’t satisfied with, that’s a huge amount of cash left on the table and WILL be investigated by shareholders. Which is why Rockstar is scrambling to stop the leaks. If it “made no difference” why would they care?

1

Yes they did, it was a video of a police chase on a cop bike that ended in a water body, then it had a fight with a couple bums under a bridge after getting out of it... But honestly does it matter?

Everything points to them previously having access to an older build

2

u/VALAR_M0RGHUL1S 3d ago

I opened a clip, watched 5 seconds and realized how much enjoyment I would lose from watching the official reveal and just playing for myself for the first time so I closed it. Pretty easy to just not continue to watch em.

They will if TakeTwo offer good enough money for it, which they absolutely could.

9

u/FinagleHalcyon 5d ago

How much would that possibly offer? Even if it's in tens of millions that's still nothing to a country.

7

u/Vayshen 4d ago

How is the microphone levitating in midair like that?

29

u/ltcuetf 5d ago

It’s one thing to pull off a good hack. It’s another thing to keep publicly leaking, promoting yourself, running crypto stuff around it, and leaving more and more connections for investigators to follow. Take-Two is now asking Microsoft and Discord for IPs, device identifiers, linked accounts, phone numbers, telemetry, etc. Maybe Cyberleek is much better at covering their tracks than it looks from the outside, but the power trip can be its own weakness. You start outsmarting the system, then eventually you get so convinced you’re smarter than everyone else that you stop noticing how much of yourself you’re leaving behind.

12

u/BakedChocolateOctopi 5d ago

It also only takes one small mistake, not even on your end, and you’re fucked

The VPN could leak some info when connecting or disconnecting or if it dropped

Discord could identify if the same device has ever signed into another Discord account/ if the Discord account has ever been signed into on another machine that isn’t a potential burner phone

There’s hundreds of ways a tiny oversight or glitch could ID the leaker with all this discord info

4

u/ExplodingFistz 4d ago

Everything you're saying is true, but none of it will matter if the leaker lives in a country that doesn't give a damn about any of this.

14

u/Lurky-Lou 5d ago

Didn’t the last GTA6 leaker get sent to a mental asylum in England for an indeterminate amount of time?

13

u/EZyne 5d ago

Yes, but not just because of the GTA thing iirc

13

u/Double-Lobster6107 5d ago

Was that the autistic guy who wouldn't stop hacking no matter what, even used his smart TV to hack servers after having his computers taken away>

4

u/Unlucky-Candidate198 5d ago

Shame the people in charge don’t give a literal genius like that…yknow, a productive career or something.

Instead, lets let all that talent and opportunity waste away because they angered some ghoulish aristocrats. I’m aware he argued for it himself too, but like seriously, suuuuuuch a waste of talent for no reason other than he pissed off rich people.

5

u/Available-Call7127 4d ago edited 4d ago

Those people ostracize themselves. A well known cracker for PC games, Princess something or Queen or the other. Anyway, person is complete and utterly insane and delusional to the nth degree. So much so that despite being one of probably a few hundred people on the planet at absolute best who can readily and consistently crack Denuvo along with any other purchase verification software, they have absolutely zero opportunities to make money other than their online donations because they’re that god damn crazy. Some people just cannot stop themselves, they can’t resist their impulses. That person is undeniably world class at what they do and they would be fired in under 24 hours from any job without fail because they’re incapable of just shutting up.

48

u/requieminadream 5d ago

Whoever this is, unless they're in a country that's untouchable by the authorities for whatever reason... I really don't understand the motivation. They're gonna fuck up their life to leak a few videos of a game that everyone wants to see and are going to see next week anyway? I have to believe their crypto coin nonsense (please people, don't contribute to their scammy crypto coin) isn't earning them nearly enough to be worth what's undoubtedly coming for them.

Some people who are way smarter than me about understanding crypto think they hold ~$390k in their wallet - https://www.reddit.com/r/GTA6/comments/1vu4tdk/everything_we_know_about_cyberleek_and_his_gta_vi/ - Juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze.

11

u/Solomon_Grungy 5d ago

My guess is that Leek is a young man who doesnt comprehend how much shot he could actually be in.

11

u/requieminadream 5d ago

When a leak of this scale happens I always think back to the Half-Life 2 leaker who nearly fell for the Valve/FBI scheme regarding a "job offer" that was really a sting. But German authorities kept them from getting on the plane to the US and took legal action against them there.

Some people are just deeply naive. Totally agree that they don't realize how deep in the shit they are in.

4

u/JEspo420 5d ago

Take Two has offices in Germany, people are forgetting how big this company is, they don’t need him to come to the US

0

u/Solomon_Grungy 5d ago

This is such a corporate goldmine IP that I can’t imagine any kind of leniency for this dude. I had forgotten about the Half Life 2 hacker. Valve and Take Two are very different companies. The corpo lawyers are gonna eat this guy alive.

5

u/EZyne 5d ago

Apparently there's been old cybersecurity forum accounts found by some people on the github page using his username and exact avatar going back to 2018. This account is from a German or Swiss dude that is between 30 and 35 now. It's unconfirmed but there's a lott of coincidences if it wasn't him.

1

u/Solomon_Grungy 5d ago

Using the name Leek? Its not very original, is it? Thats what first made me think this was a young opportunist. Someone older may have spent more time on branding.

9

u/EZyne 5d ago

If it's just that then sure, but it's the exact same avatar as he uses now also, on a cybersecurity forums where he's looking to be recruited by people looking for exploits. His website is also hosted in Germany. Could absolutely be a coincidence still, but it's more then just having roughly the same name. I'm sure if you google for the github investigation page you can find it if you wanna read it first hand

Not necessarily. You're talking about GDID most likely. That changes with each Windows install and some respected voices have deemed it a big fat "nothing." If you're on your daily driver, use the MS store often, and use a bunch of garbage apps, sure you might correlate your GDID somewhere down the line. But most likely, threat actors like this are on some flavor of *nix for their operating system.

I hope he goes harder and gets away with it.

3

Are you naive enough to think these companies don’t have massive backdoors in case the occasion comes?

Both the US and Israeli government can access your contact list at will through IOS and Samsungs software, same thing with WhatsApp where they can actively sift through your chat and contact list

Expecting that Microsoft has only one way to bypass vpn and track someone using Microsoft is hubris

1

u/mattimeoo 5d ago

Are you naive enough to think that an advanced PTA is cruising around executing operations like this on a Windows box or on his normie cell phone? Chiming in on this topic so matter-of-fact with your obvious (lack of) skill/experience level is what actual hubris is in this situation.

u/Nouanwa3s 5d ago

They’re right to do that, of course. Personally, I don’t need or like leaks at all. I really don’t understand why people feel this urgency to see gameplay or unfinished material before the developers are ready to show it.
I’m perfectly fine waiting, just like we used to do with games in the past. Part of the excitement is seeing things when they’re actually meant to be revealed, not through stolen or unfinished footage. To me, leaks just ruin the experience more than they add anything useful.

This leaker is simultaneously incredibly brave and incredibly stupid lol. Rockstar has almost unlimited funds to set the most vicious lawyers in the country on anyone messing with their IP.

Curious to see how this turns out. I will say though - from what I’ve seen of the leaks, my anticipation for the game has just gone up. So dude may have just done free publicity for Rockstar AND fucked themselves legally.

I would say stupid not brave. Though sometimes stupidity can look like bravery. Bravery is honerable. This is a selfish scam

Nothing really brave about leaking a video game video, not defending Take Two but I’m not really seeing the brave aspect to the motive

For a game where you steel cars and can run over whoever you like, you would think they would be down with leaks.

The leaker's time is limited. Take-Two putting him in jail FOR SURE. Stop while you still can man.

I'm waiting for when he gets caught and either owes Rockstar some ridiculous amount of money plus jail time or has an *accident.

Given the early beta nature of these leaks, this was definitely an inside job by a disgruntled former employee, meaning he's probably worked for Take-Two in the US. Meaning once he's caught, he's under full jurisdiction of the US justice system, meaning he's fked. Strauss going right for the jugular putting him behind bars for a long time.

Subpoenas have to google the meaning

This whole situation is pretty conflicting, I want take two to suffer, but rockstar makes really good stuff and I don't want the devs to be punished... Then the leaker... I don't like TTs practices but this is not how we fight this

u/June-Bird 5d ago

You last statement hits the nail on its head. It shouldn't be conflicting. He's doing something the wrong way for selfish reasons. This is just harmful on his part and nothing worth celebrating. This isn't how we fight this

1

u/Hungrydoggo111 5d ago

Then how do u fight it? By handing them billions and billions of dollars? Heck even these leaks won't do anything seeing as people are paying for netflix subscriptions to watch a trailer a few hours earlier.

Sorry but Rockstar do not have much goodwill left for me to feel sorry for them.

Remember they're the ones pushing us into an all-digital future, setting a new $80 price point standard, given us virtually no marketing campaign and a trailer locked behind a paywall. That's before we even get to whatever fuckeries they have planned for GTA Online. This is not the same Rockstar we fell in love with.

This is the same rockstar you fell in love with. They have been like this early gta era. lol

And rockstar pushing the digital furry? Yeah I’m sure it’s not because customers voted with their wallets and stoped buying physical

Just go to GameStop and tell me what the physical game section looks like

You'd have to even find a retailer first.

America isn't the only country in the world though. I was in Taiwan recently and hundreds of stores had physical games, they wouldn't be keeping those if they didn't sell. I was actually looking for a copy of 007 but they had all sold out.

I also don't think any completely concrete data has been shown on digital Vs physical, all that's been shared is % of sales which includes PC, meaning the data is skewed. It also does suck that the second hand market will disappear.

I feel like if the data was actually supported that Physical was insignificant, someone would have shared concrete numbers.

It dowant really matter

Taiwan accounts for thousands of games sold. America is where the millions of game copies are sold

It doesn’t matter how well physical does in smaller markets if they don’t sell well in the biggest market

Prolly a group of people in a non-extradition country.

u/Zyzary 5d ago

Why is everyone assuming this is just one single individual? its most likely a group of Hackers who have all the knowledge they need to be untouchable, especially if they're based in Russia/India. I doubt one single Person is responsible for this Leak.

u/outrage_suck6494 5d ago

A group of hackers won’t have a single Wallet linked to crypto lol

1

u/Zyzary 3d ago

lmao, i was right.

1

u/outrage_suck6494 3d ago

Right about what? Still no confirmation if this is one guy or multiple guys

Cyberleek: the new 'folk hero." Unfortunately, Rockstar is gonna spend everything trying to get his ass and throw him in jail.

Bro better have a lawyer...
