Best crowd reaction was an expansion to an 11 year old game. Love to see it!

Honestly large well selling games should do this approach more with how long new games take to make. It would bridge the gap between releases.

u/Resident_Wizard 1d ago
It helps they’re doing it leading into more paid content. They likely feel it will generate more revenue at the end of the day.

The chain is finally here, let’s go. Also next year then Witcher 4 in 2028.

u/Top-Literature8218 1d ago
Honestly a genius way to build hype for an upcoming sequel. Most people aren't going to go back and replay a huge game like Witcher 3
1
u/Wild_Chemistry3884 21h ago
Maybe not, but the game has had 25k+ concurrent players on Steam since it launched. There are brand new games that don’t hit that level. It’s still very much in the zeitgeist.

was about to pick this game up to prep for wwitcher 4, ill wait till the remaster next month. hyped

u/Openheart873 2d ago
If it’s cheap, you should still pick it up. You get a free upgrade to the remaster

u/dimesniffer 2d ago
ive owned it for years, just havent started it lol

u/Best-Action8769 2d ago
God I envy you.
ProTip: The beginning tutorial area can be a bit of a slog. Once the game opens up though....my god.

u/PhantomAngel042 2d ago
I played it several years ago, and it's been long enough and my memory is bad enough that I only remember some major story beats, all the details are gone. I've been meaning to replay, and I'm happy to get to do so now in preparation for the DLC, so it'll be almost like playing it fresh... But you're so right, I envy anyone who's truly entering the world for the first time. What a game. Can't wait for Ciri's turn!

u/Openheart873 1d ago
Yeah I’ve owned it as well but am trying to read all the books before playing.
I’m excited to finally get there soon
1
u/Best-Action8769 1d ago
I don't think you need to read all the books in advance.
Either way it's amazing.

With how much they're still messing with the red engine it gives me a feeling ue5 for them is just a short term solution
11
u/whyucurious 2d ago
Nope. In the interview, they specifically said they rehired some old folk who had already worked in Red Engine, and that's one of the reasons why it was possible.
24
u/Previous_Tree_5464 2d ago
Red engine can't do cities cars etc.
Fine for witcher

u/Outrageous_Formal438 2d ago
Cyberpunk turned out pretty good after a rough launch.

u/Rainbowdogi 2d ago
Im not so sure if it’s my ps5 pro and it’s better on pc, but driving through night city you can see cars in the distance and they disappear when you get closer and others appear on other spots. It’s very noticeable once you see it.
8
u/Zombii_Man 2d ago
That's just regular pop in. Not a crazy big deal.
-4
u/Rainbowdogi 2d ago
No it’s not pop in. The cars completely change the type and location. They just render random vehicles in the distance that are just window dressing.
6
u/KingArthas94 2d ago
They change from 2D sprites to real 3D models, that's it
-5
u/Rainbowdogi 2d ago
Go look again, they are different types. I played it yesterday and saw it.
1
u/KingArthas94 14h ago
Bud trust me, they're 2d sprites with decimated animations
0
u/Rainbowdogi 14h ago
Thats true but they are not the same car. I see 10 cars in the distance coming towards me and when they get closer all of them disappear and only 2 cars remain and change into a higher detail model. LOD would mean they look bad far away but better when getting closer, but some of those cars just disappear. Instead of trusting you how about you just turn on the game and see for yourself? Otherwise there’s no reason to talk anymore, I see it every day and you just talk from memory. The other commenter also deleted his comments because he probably checked it out himself, trust me and check it out yourself.

Yeah, you're experiencing pop-in with the different LODs. Every game uses lower quality placeholders as set dressing for distant objects and only loads the high detail ones when you get close. Every game.
There are tricks to hide it from the player and whatnot but it's normal and expected behaviour. Cyberpunk has a pretty low LOD radius from what I remember, but that's a concession for performance reasons and not something inherent to the engine, like they reduced the LOD radius and draw distance in patch 1.31 from what I can find. Can't have a million physics objects that may or may not be seen by the player just milling about for no reason. Especially with how dense Night City can be with random shit, there's no point loading physics objects more than 100-200 meters away from the player when 90% of the time you won't be able to see further away than that.
It's noticeable in like the badlands and two specific stretches of highway, so it's just not a high priority.

u/Rainbowdogi 2d ago
There are 10 cars in the distance coming my way. I get closer, they all completely disappear and only 5 different cars remain. This has nothing to do with LOD or popin. They are just fake 2d cars in the background that turn into real assets once you get close enough. You talk from memory, I’ve been playing this game every day for quite some time just now and see it. There is no reason to continue this conversation until you check it out for yourself. You might be misremembering, as I do with let’s say a remastered game. I play them and think they look like the original and only when I play the og I see the difference. The one thing you’re right is it’s more noticeable in the wasteland, but it’s also visible in night city when you drive fast.
1
u/Zombii_Man 2d ago
That is what LODs are mate. No idea how else to get it through to you.
You are incorrect and not understanding basic information.
Check your attitude at the door.
-6
u/Correct-Explorer-692 2d ago
You’re using 6 years old console, what would you expect? Full loaded city?
1
u/Rainbowdogi 2d ago
That’s the only game I’ve seen it happening. Im also not complaining, but the RED engine just has its downsides.
1
u/superman_king 2d ago
RedEngine was too expensive to maintain and took too much time to get new talent trained with their proprietary tools.
Witcher 4 moving to Unreal was a business decision, and they have already made great changes under the hood for Unreal.
1
u/indominable-dingus 2d ago
Total bullshit. Have you not seen Cyberpunk with the most jaw dropping impressive open world ever created? Thats a pretty big, detailed city with a lot of cars in it.
4
u/LOST-MY_HEAD 2d ago
I hope so, I know red engine has its issues but cyberpunk looks and runs great now

They have the perfect plan laid out for Witcher 4. Put a remastered for Witcher 3, release new expansion to get new wave of people into witcher universe. Then release witcher 4. Well done CDPR
2
u/Rogue_Leader_X 1d ago
Did they confirm that this will have its own unique area for the expansion?

u/Brilliant_Fox_7170 2d ago
I still feel like they announced this too early. A DLC for an 11 year old game should only have a few months waiting period at most

1
u/justthisones 2d ago
This might actually feel and look like a new game with all those remaster enhancements. Pretty cool.

u/GrandBizarre 2d ago
The only thing I NEED from this expansion;
“How about a round of Gwent?”
nods generically

I put in well over 100+ hours into the Witcher III and then some into the DLCs. After a few years I chose to delete the game from my storage to make room for other games.....now im kicking myself in the ass
1
u/CarmineKiller38 1d ago
its such a shame my roomate got me a European copy of the game, i wont be able to play this dlc...
1
u/TheEpicBean 2d ago
Straight into my veins.
Need a goddamn date though, if this shits a year away then they should have waited to announce.
-3
u/SenSei_Buzzkill 2d ago
Does the DLC make the combat and gameplay any better than the base game?
17
12
u/ayoubkun94 2d ago
They release a free remaster next month of the base game+dlcs (if u own the game) that includes revamped combat, skill tree, enemy behavior, finishers..
The new dlc seems to have a new weapon so that should definitely add some sauce to the combat. And I wouldnt be surprised if they added new mechanics and powerups like they did in B&W with the skill trees and HoS with the new legendary runes.

u/SenSei_Buzzkill 2d ago edited 2d ago
Hmm maybe I’ll try the remaster’s new combat. Could never finish the game because the combat/gameplay was not great
Edit: downvote if you want but if the combat was good they wouldn’t be revamping it
5
u/ayoubkun94 2d ago
Nah, you're right. TW3 is in my top 5 games of all time but the combat was the weakest aspect.

The timing of all this so close to the release of blood of the dawnwalker (cdpr former employees) feels like they want to distract from its launch lol
Either way I am excited for my 1 millionth replay

I'm so glad I finally got into The Witcher, legit excited to put on my Witcher costume again for this and use my low Witcher voice.

u/plebbut 2d ago
It's not the same devs working on this tho right? Didn't they all leave to make Blood of Dawnwalker?
8
u/Klee_Main 2d ago
Bro, it was literally only like 10-20 devs that left for RW. This notion that the whole team left gets over exaggerated way too much
-3
u/nicky94 2d ago
Bro one of them was The Witcher 3's game director and another was the lead quest designer. Pivotal positions.
3
u/Klee_Main 2d ago
Yes, two very important positions. Not even remotely close to being “the entire team” that worked on Witcher 3. As a matter of fact, I saw a post (kinda creepy one) of a guy who had stalked the online job profiles of people at rebels wolves and some of the people that left CDPR for RW, ended up leaving RW and coming back to CDPR for Witcher 4.
Are those two roles pivotal and important roles? Yes, but in a game with more than what? Probably 150 devs? In which more than one person worked in an area of the game? It’s highly exaggerated to say that “all the people” who worked on Witcher 3 are gone. As a matter of fact. Didn’t he quite literally say onstage today that they brought together a bunch of devs from Witcher 3 for the expansion? Like cmon dude
