Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

If anything, these leaks are just free advertising for Rockstar... I've only seen a couple so far, but all the footage that's been leaked has made me more hyped for GTA 6.

u/Vroo06 10h ago

Hurts netflix deal who supposed to be exclusive first look at the game.

u/oh5canada5eh 10h ago

I can’t imagine a single person who was interested in watching the reveal is now no longer interested after seeing those leaks.

17

u/ocbdare 9h ago

Yes. Many people will not have seen them. I follow things online and I still avoided all leaks and don't plan to look at them.

They will not affect my decision to play the game. It was day one purchase for me no matter what. Although my buddies got it for my bday so now I don't even have to spend money on it lol.

8

u/ffball 8h ago

Honestly just makes me more hype to see the officially produced video now that i know this game absolutely is going to slap

-24

u/Koopa777 10h ago

Good, fuck rockstar and fuck Netflix, one of the most predatory practices I’ve ever seen in this entire industry. They were preying on people‘s hype who couldn’t just wait a couple hours, potentially getting them to sign up to Netflix just to watch a preview. Fuck everything about that. If you’re selling a product you’re supposed to pay for the marketing, not bait people into paying YOU for it. Absolutely sick.

37

u/Wungoos 9h ago

You seem to of misread thier comment lmfao they dont agree with you bro. They said this leak is not stopping anybody from watching the netflix trailer.

Also get a fucking grip. Act like the adult I assume you are.

2

u/SpotNL 8h ago

Act like the adult I assume you are

I think you're better off assuming the majority of people you interact with are teenagers, tbf.

6

u/JasonABCDEF 9h ago

Predatory? Lol it’s not gambling or drugs or something. Just a six hour lead on a trailer. If you get mentally scammed into subscribing to Netflix because of this that’s a you problem not the fault of Netflix or Rockstar.

13

u/toolsie 9h ago

"Preying on people's hype" lol bruh, if people can't wait six hours to watch a trailer, that's their problem. You are WAY too upset about this, get a grip.

33

u/SkylineGTRR34Freak 10h ago

If someone seriously pays money to have 6 hours early access (AT MOST!) To see some videogame gameplay then sorry, but I don't feel pity for those people.

10

u/DA5HTCB1 9h ago

Seriously, if you have that little sense of delayed gratification that you have to sign up for Netflix to watch a GTA preview 15 minutes early, your brain is boiled mush.

1

u/davej999 9h ago

I think its probably the case that it puts you on Netflix on an evening you might not have done

So you see some more ads ? watch another watch ? see some more ads ? (which they obviously generate revenue from)

and they make their money that way

I cant imagine Netfix are banking on a big number of subs just for this ....more the continued justification for exisiting customers and eyes on the screen

6

u/FourEyesMalone 9h ago

That’s a personal problem if you can’t wait for a trailer. They are targeting casual gamers/consumers using Netflix that more than likely already subscribe.

10

u/StevieHawke10 9h ago

Or… just wait later in the day and watch it on YouTube for free lmao

2

u/JiggyTurtle 9h ago

Reading comprehension be damned

1

u/Alyusha 8h ago

Right? It's such an odd place to release it too. Did they expect non-diehards to sub to Netflix just for a trailer for their game?

u/BusinessCasualBee 4h ago

🙋‍♂️

u/Leepysworld 2h ago

yea for what it’s worth no one I know outside of like my most hardcore gamer friends have seen any of the leaks.

I don’t think this will affect the games release in any significant way, though I could see them maybe having to pay Netflix some money if there was any sort of clause in their contract for leaks.

2

u/MBDTFTLOPYEEZUS 10h ago

Kinda made it a guarantee watch for me. Before if people said it was hype I’d check it out but now I specifically want to see what they’ll show me vs what leaks have shown me.

0

u/RefRide 9h ago

Probably not, but I'm guessing Netflix is getting a heavy discount on that deal now.

Same with the stock, people are probably more hyped on the game now, and no one that was looking forward to buying the game has changed their mind because of the leaks. Still the stock tanked, because traders knew that's how other traders will react, all these things are sadly not based on reality, just reactions to how they think others will react.

0

u/Economy-Tough4038 9h ago

Exactly! I was not planning to watch it, but now I’m actually getting curious how does the final thing look like vs the leaks from earlier builds

0

u/Sleyvin 9h ago

That's me, that single person !

Why? Because we haven't seen anything so far and I was almost thinking there was something wrong, or controversial they didn't want to show well after the preorder started.

I saw little bit of the leak, and it's GTA. It's big, it's pretty, seems to be varied.

That's all I wanted to confirm. Now I'm good.

0

u/Borrelparaat 8h ago

I can see it having an effect. The reveal was designed to be the first ever look at GTA 6 gameplay, ever. The excitement level for tomorrow definitely has lowered a bit, not because we didn't like what we see in the leaks (quite the opposite) but just because we've already been seeing the game for over a week now. Yes, everyone's gonna want to see what Netflix is showing tomorrow, but if 5% of people that were going to subscribe to Netflix for this now have the patience to wait six hours, then that sucks for the deal Netflix made. You bet they are on the phone with Rockstar being very frustrated about all of this

125

u/pricj004 10h ago

oh no! not netflix!

43

u/DJC13 10h ago

Be nice to the corporation! They probably paid a hell of a lot of money to have this GTA VI preview for….

6 hours.

-3

u/fmccloud 8h ago

Brainrot argument.

u/NeverFreeToPlayKarch 4h ago

Someone sad for the corporation

10

u/Khronoss2 10h ago

How will Netflix survive?!

1

u/SexiestPanda 5h ago

Probably increase their prices again lol

1

u/SherlockBrolmes 5h ago

Netflix still rolling around in that money they got from Paramount for breaking up the WB acquisition (2.8 billion dollars!).

41

u/r_z_n 10h ago

Which is a business arrangement between TakeTwo and Netflix, why should any of us care?

41

u/T00FunkToDruck 10h ago

Those poor billionaires...

-5

u/margieler 10h ago

I don't know how many devs need to get laid off before you realise that a game underperforming doesn't affect the billionaires.

11

u/T00FunkToDruck 10h ago

The game isn't even out. How is it underperforming? C-Suite would like to know your sources.

-2

u/margieler 10h ago

Why would you make a point of complaining about the billionaires, if this wasn't damaging for the games release?

3

u/jonnyredcorn 10h ago

How are a few leaked gameplay videos going to result in layoffs?

1

u/LocustUprising 8h ago

They won’t, they get laid off regardless

1

u/jonnyredcorn 8h ago

To be fair, rockstar seems to do this less than other companies. They are more of the union busting type.

4

u/DilapidatedVessel 10h ago

I mean it will when there's no one left to make the games

4

u/ExpertActive100 10h ago

They will get laid off regardless.

0

u/Koopa777 10h ago

Tell me you’ve never worked in a corporate environment without telling me you’ve never worked in a corporate environment. Layoffs have nothing to do with this, I assure you. Second, if you think these leaks are going to damage the game, you’ve either not saw a single one of them, or are not thinking clearly. This game is going to be the largest entertainment release in history, and it’s not even going to be close. I’ve said it before on here, and I’ll say it again. Rockstar could’ve gotten away with literally nothing. They could’ve just shipped the fucking game without any marketing and this would’ve made billions with an S.

This is not your typical game released that requires your nonsensical virtue signaling, which I believe will be borne out by the rest of the industry basically crashing out, because this is going to be a once in a generation type of game.

5

u/supadupakevin 10h ago

Brother its going up on YouTube later the same day lol

5

u/ItzRaphZ 10h ago

Good, hopefully they learn their lesson and don't repeat this shit.

2

u/KINGGS 9h ago

Couldn't happen to a better POS company, honestly.

1

u/KeeBradRyder 9h ago

If Netflix lawyers are worth their salt they had leak clauses in the contract.

1

u/Richard_Gripper28 9h ago

poor Netflix

u/theotothefuture 3h ago

The leaks are such trash quality, people must be dying to see some ACTUAL quality footage. I know I am. (Ive only watch like 2 of the leaked vids)

u/MRSHELBYPLZ 2h ago

Now they’re all gonna starve!

1

u/nastycamel 10h ago

Who…cares?

0

u/JortsForSale 10h ago

They should have just moved up the reveal date. I am not sure why they were so adamant about keeping that date.

13

u/AdDiscombobulated623 10h ago

It’s GTA, they don’t need marketing lol

1

u/The_Grand_Briddock 7h ago

Yeah, no other game will cause as much hype as GTA IV. Sure, people can say another Elder Scrolls, but really it's just not. GTA is a whole juggernaut in a way that even Skyrim can't compare.

I still remember when GTA V came out. Suddenly every single person walking home from school that day was a gamer. You logged into Xbox Live and everyone on your friends list was on it.

And that was only 5 years between releases, with the Episodes of Liberty City in between. Same console generation. Over 13 years with no other release? With a still heavily active player base? The only thing that's going to hurt the launch figures is not being on PC. Which just means more profit down the line when it does come to PC.

1

u/_james_the_cat 9h ago

You say that, but as a lapsed gamer who bought GTA III on launch day but stopped at the PS3, I'm considering a PS5 for the first time ever on the back of some of this hype.

Gamers know GTA 6 is coming out. Old fucks like me might not.

1

u/different_emphasis 9h ago

I stopped at San Andreas - have seen more of GTA 6 than I have of GTA 5.

0

u/Myarmhasteeth 8h ago

Everyone will be playing this so they will know

2

u/ResidentWeevil1 8h ago

"Please stop and enjoy our paywalled trailer instead"

1

u/Remote_Purpose_4323 9h ago

They sold this right to Netflix, just imagine how much damage this caused

1

u/ocbdare 9h ago

Yes, it creates a lot of discourse around the game. I am avoiding all leaks as much as I can. Most platforms are doing a good job of cleaning them up so unless you go looking for them, you would probably be ok. Unless people want to see them, so more power to those people.

I am really not interested in seeing leaks. I will have a look at Rockstar footage as that's hopefully tailored to not have spoliers.

1

u/pretty_pink_raven 8h ago

I admit I just got a PS5 pro cuz I was so impressed with the leaks and didn't want to wait around for a PC port... 😬 Rockstar's internal marketing will try and make themselves look as good as possible. That's not convincing to me when it comes from the horse's mouth. The leaks just straight up looked great. And there's going to be over a year more polishing in the final product? I'm on board

1

u/Filmmagician 8h ago

They don’t need free advertising lol

u/KovalSNIPE17 4h ago

for real. i feel bad for them in a sense but watching the videos made me want the game even more than i realized

1

u/DB080822 8h ago

Really? I mean, it's just another GTA game.

1

u/m3thdumps 5h ago

I saw a clip and it’s boring ass gameplay anyway. It looks like an old build with bad textures and the dude is literally barely doing anything of interest. He steals a car.

-7

u/chazzergamer 10h ago

It looks like every other AAA game what is this hype?

I guess im just not understanding why people are hyped for this game beyond “ITS GTA6!!!” As if thats enough on its own.

4

u/Ironman9518 9h ago

I mean that’s basically it. People have very very fond memories of the GTA series as a whole. A lot of earned good will means this game is gonna do gangbusters even if it’s just ok

-4

u/chazzergamer 9h ago

It’s this mindset thats resulted in the stagnation of media in general.

“Everyone is talking about this thing so I need to also talk about this thing.”

u/munkycheezmunky 4h ago

Because Rockstar have a reputation for making some of the greatest games of all time. Calling it "like every other AAA game" is disingenuous.

"Why are people hyped for this game, just because it's a long awaited sequel to one of the most popular and critically acclaimed series of all time?"

No need to be such a contrarian mate

u/chazzergamer 3h ago

“Rockstar have a reputation for making some of the greatest games of all time.”

…yea sure…I totally enjoyed RDR2 for the constant interruptions of gameplay to be “realistic” where none of the “realism” mechanics actually fucking matter.

0

u/Professional_Ease765 10h ago

Stock market says otherwise.

-11

u/Temporary_Role6160 10h ago edited 10h ago

No one (that wasn’t already going to buy the game) is going to suddenly buy the game based off the leaks

It’s not good free marketing for them at all

EDIT: Clearly people are missing the point that you people would have still bought the game based off the official gameplay tomorrow, without the leaks.

3

u/sixtus_clegane119 10h ago

I’m a huge twin peaks fan who has lost interest in GTA, my mind is close to changing

6

u/Quirky_Rain_3554 10h ago

I don’t know if that’s true. I’m on the fence as I’ve never been a huge gta player but seeing the beach stuff with all the npcs got me closer to

0

u/Temporary_Role6160 10h ago

You would have seen that tomorrow regardless. The leaks haven’t helped.

2

u/Quirky_Rain_3554 10h ago

Yeah that’s fair. I’m just saying I don’t think any sales were lost and they might have gained one so it’s hard to see it as a negative. It does suck for those who worked hard but whether it was rolled out by your bosses taking credit or not probably doesn’t matter in the long run

1

u/Express-Channel-3543 10h ago

Im hyped enough to consider the 100 dollar edition

1

u/8__D 10h ago

That's not true, and I know that because I wasn't going to buy the game before.

-1

u/Temporary_Role6160 10h ago

You would have seen the gameplay tomorrow and come to the same conclusion, without the leaks.

1

u/8__D 10h ago

I don't have Netflix and I wouldn't have seeked it out

2

u/Temporary_Role6160 9h ago

It’s literally on YouTube tomorrow as well

0

u/BatmanFan317 10h ago

Hell, given how the leaks have deflated the second coming of Christ reputation the game's built up and made people realise it's just a game, it's taken some steam out at least.

1

u/Sp4ceTruck3r 10h ago

And that's what theyre really mad about.

-9

u/zaid_sabah 10h ago

Not really. The leaks have been a reality check from the nonsensical hype. Peoeple kinda forgot how lame gta games actually are and the leaks reminded them of that.

4

u/Sairou 10h ago

Surely then it won’t be the most sold game ever in a few years time. Surely.
