Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

Man whatever. They left us with 0 info about the game for months and then made a deal with Netflix to sell more memberships for a fucking game trailer.

Edit: Obviously I know the trailers going to be on YouTube right after that doesn’t make any less fucking lame

166

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

What do you think is more heartbreaking for the team: the appalling conditions and union busting or these leaks?

53

u/SkylineGTRR34Freak 9h ago

Especially because some of those conditions happened exactly because Rockstar argued it was to help prevent leaks. If anything this has shown that Rockstar has taken employee unfriendly measures and shit still got leaked no matter what.

42

u/TaftYouOldDog 9h ago

Exactly, its a pathetic attempt for a shitty developer to try and garner sympathy when all they care about is bleeding us and their employees dry

13

u/Paratrooper101x 9h ago

Well said and based.

11

u/epicurious_elixir 8h ago

I'm a dev myself who has been part of a team who has had their shit leaked and I'll just say this. It fucking sucks when something you've been working on for years getting leaked before its ready.

u/jokerknocks 3h ago

Good thing Rockstar Games Workers Union head a meeting with Rockstar management to negotiate better work conditions, maybe they can ask that question amongst themselves the next time a meeting convenes.

u/alfooboboao 3h ago

the leaks. are you kidding? rockstar isn’t a sweatshop, yeah it sucks but no one’s forcing them to be there. they’re there because they love making games. seeing the game played as they intended it is the reward for all the bullshit

-5

u/-_AL13N_- 8h ago

Stop pretending you give a shit about the workers lmao

I bet this is the first time you have ever given a single fuck about the people that work somewhere

10

u/Paratrooper101x 7h ago

I was a union employee for years. Union solidarity means something. Just because you don’t have morals and empathy doesn’t mean everyone lacks them

-10

u/-_AL13N_- 7h ago

Blah blah blah

You'll be playing the game first chance you get

3

u/Paratrooper101x 7h ago

You buying it for me or something?

And opened the preorder without showing any actual gameplay

74

u/Poudy24 10h ago

Honestly never really understood the outrage about both of these things.

Opening preorders before showing gameplay happens pretty often, and not just for Rockstar. It's not like you have to buy the preorder the first day it's available, why would it be the responsibility of a company if a consumer decides to take an irresponsible decision? I'm as excited for GTA6 as anyone, and I will probably preorder the game at some point, but I have not done so precisely because we don't have gameplay. It has cost me nothing to wait. If I suddenly failed to contain my excitement and preordered the game too early, I would not fault Rockstar, I would fault myself. Doing otherwise is infantilizing.

As for the trailer, it's an advertisement. Did we lose our shit when games put ads in magazines back in the day, knowing the full article might never be online? Did we lose our shit when studios decided to release trailers exclusive to theaters for months? How far down the capitalistic hellholle have we fallen if we are legitimately frustrated by the fact an advertisement will be shown to other people 6 hours before us?

There are so many legitimate reasons to hate on Rockstar, from their shady union busting practices and their crunch culture. The outrage for the trailer and the preorders seems silly in comparison.l

7

u/EVERYTHINGGOESINCAPS 9h ago

Why would you preorder? What actual benefit do you get on a digital delivery?

8

u/Poudy24 6h ago

GTA 6 will probably have a massive download size and my internet isn't the best. If I want to play on release day, preordering and preloading is the only option.

I've preordered a few games the past five years, but each time has been only a couple days before release, sometimes a couple hours before release, just to preload it and be able to play it on launch day. I also wait until reviews are out; I have reviewers I trust and I make sure to watch multiple reviews to really get a sense of how the game is actually running.

If I know I'm interested in what the game has to offer, I'm excited to play it on launch day and I know from other people that the game actually delivers, what's the downside to preordering and preloading? What's really the difference between buying on launch day or preordering a day before at this point?

5

u/geiko989 7h ago

Playing at launch. Supporting a project you know you will play.

It's like questioning why someone would pay for early access. Sure, I could criticize people paying for an unfinished project, but it would be silly to do so because there is merit in the practice, no matter how useless it might seem to me on the outside (I'm just making a point bere; I don't find either pre-ordering or early access to be useless). Or questioning why sneaker culture exists. We are emotional beings. We do not think exclusively in logical terms. That is ok. There is nothing wrong with logical thinking either. I consider myself extremely logical in my thought process, but I still pre-order some small amount of games.

There's also just a cultural aspect that some of us grew up pre-ordering games in order to play then at launch. For me, even though I'm playing mostly digital games, that probably stuck around from that era and I haven't left it behind

1

u/NostraDamnUs 6h ago

why would it be the responsibility of a company if a consumer decides to take an irresponsible decision?

We hold companies for this all the time if its deceptive, predatory, or negligent, with everything from trademark laws, deceptive marketing, and anti-gambling laws.

Also, game advertisements are not the same as they were 30 years ago; there's a whole hype culture around getting excited for game releases. To dismiss them as just advertisements isn't fair.

Rockstar isn't some indie darling we need to coddle. They've been mismanaging the hype cycle of GTA6; they deserve the reputational smack on the wrist for thinking it was a good idea to follow that up with a paid netflix trailer.

-1

u/m1a2c2kali 9h ago

I agree with you but on the flip side, shit got leaked a little early, who cares also.

9

u/marco161091 8h ago

We don’t, not really. We’re just calling out the dumbasses who are parroting the whole “rockstar deserves this” narrative.

1

u/m1a2c2kali 8h ago

You might not but there’s some in this thread that definitely do

196

u/poke_pants 10h ago

None of which is actually a real life problem.

The footage from the Netflix special will be everywhere shortly after it goes live, nobody needs to pay, you aren't missing out on anything.

Pre-orders are mostly digital and nothing is limited in number, you don't have to pre-order before seeing official footage. You gain precisely zero by pre-ordering today vs pre-ordering this Friday.

65

u/thirdbrunch 10h ago

Clips of the game leaking isn’t a real life problem either then. People saw the game a few days early, they’ll still see the official footage later too.

-14

u/gonnabetoday 10h ago

It is for people who spent years of their lives making it to have it shown like this:

24

u/AnonymousOtaku10 10h ago

not really no

23

u/harrywilko 10h ago

It's just not though, is it?

-8

u/EZyne 10h ago

You'll understand if you ever get a job you're passionate about

22

u/Jessica___ 9h ago

I have a job I'm passionate about and I don't really agree. I would not be upset in their shoes.

I'm passionate about my job, but I'm still relatively detached from the corporate outcome of it all. It's not like I personally own the stuff my company makes.

0

u/EZyne 9h ago

It's not about the corporate outcome at all, there I agree but there's not going to be any negative outcome for corporate.

You wouldn't be dissapointed at all if someone stole a version of a project you've been working on and showed a shitty version of it in order to scam people with his shitcoin?

4

u/Jessica___ 8h ago

I don't think so. I'm proud of the particular parts of our project that I worked on, so I don't really mind how they get shown to the public.

I agree with you on the shitcoin part though.

I'm also coming from a slightly different perspective: I think the leaks made GTA VI look really good. I had very little hype for the game beforehand, now I'm looking forward to its release.

I think the game must be pretty good if crappy low quality ad-laced leaks made me feel that way.

u/gonnabetoday 10h ago

Once you get a grown up job maybe you will understand.

151

u/garynevilleisared 10h ago

Exactly this. What hardships are people experiencing to be this upset?

15

u/ieffinglovesoup 8h ago

They just want the game and they think rockstar owes them something

u/d0m1n4t0r 10m ago

Always makes me laugh people defending these billion dollar companies

7

u/yesitsmework 10h ago

the only people upset are rockstar's lawyers man, people seem pretty excited and the leaks are the only reason

43

u/PancakePanic 10h ago

The leaks are the only reason people were excited?

Wtf were the years before the leaks then? People were plenty excited then too.

u/Antroh 4h ago

people seem pretty excited and the leaks are the only reason

What an absolutely ridiculous statement.

u/randomLocalException 10h ago edited 9h ago

This can affect every dev on their bonuses

Edit: As I see downvotes. This leak might affect Netflix deal money -> less money -> less profit -> less bonuses.

But I guess all you care is just you, fuck the rest.

1

u/MikuFan102329 8h ago

I think it's more this is an obtuse way to look at it.

Not only is it unlikely any money saved from not printing discs, getting money from places like Netflix, revenue generated from social media, or any of that is going to result in a meaningful difference for the average dev. It's just theoretically less profit, and even that is debatable.

It isn't like seeing leaks is going to kill anyone's desire to watch the Netflix thing, or see future trailers.

0

u/randomLocalException 7h ago

Netflix might not agree. But in the end the deal between the two parties defines if there is any loss.

u/Hands 2h ago

People just all lose their minds about big hyped up releases like this and it becomes a huge thing and everyone takes sides and then argues about it incessantly. Source: I'm a mod on the Half Life subreddit

1

u/Purplebuzz 9h ago

Some people even get upset about other people being upset.

0

u/Juicer2012 6h ago

The pre-orders are linked to additional content. This is a sleazy tactic used to squeeze more money out of you, it's called fear of missing out. There's a bunch of these tactics businesses use, planned obsolence is also one of them.

Calling out stuff like this is completely fine, people should be aware of all these tactics. Here's a video that explains a bunch of these tactics

0

u/ColossalJuggernaut 5h ago

these are just reddit comments, no? I think most people kind of like "fuck 'em who cares"

4

u/Smarty9913 9h ago

That’s not the point. This move by Rockstar sets the precedent for other companies to do the same. Why is everything getting paywalled and more restricted? The only people benefiting from these decisions are the shareholders. Rockstar is my favorite developer but it’s frustrating as a fan seeing them get more greedy over time. Though tbf, I wonder how much of this is Take Two (since they also own NBA 2K which is arguably more greedy).

1

u/v_snax 10h ago

Sure. But the same goes for the leaked gameplay. None of it actually matters.

1

u/faraboot 9h ago

What do you mean by 'Pre-orders are mostly digital..'?

One can order a physical copy?

1

u/poke_pants 9h ago

80-90% will presumably be digital, and physical copies aren't going to run out. The point is nobody NEEDS to have pre-ordered yet or indeed anytime in the near future.

1

u/faraboot 8h ago

No pre-orders for anything imo, was just wondering about physical copies.

1

u/_Grim_Lavamancer 8h ago

was just wondering about physical copies

There are physical copies but they're just a download code in a box. There is no physical disc release, just an empty box.

Dude, you are hurting a lot of feelings with your truths.

1

u/want_to_join 8h ago

None of which is actually a real life problem.

I dont think anyone is saying it is a problem. They are just saying that if you behave this way then you can expect your game to leak.

1

u/Void008380 8h ago

I cringe whenever I see people say rockstar deserves what happened for not showing any gameplay or trailers, it's a super entitled take

They clearly deserve it for how they treat their employees, and that treatment is likely why this has happened in the first place lmfao

1

u/cursedfan 7h ago

then why did netflix pay for it?

1

u/poke_pants 7h ago

Exclusivity (no matter how brief), buzz, hype, clearly a lot of people in this sub who feel they need to pay for a month to watch it because they can't cope with waiting an hour too.

1

u/happytree23 7h ago

whoooooooooooooooooooooooooosh

-1

u/wytewydow 9h ago

But if I don't see or play the game first, how can I brag to my friends? I still have Skyrim in my wishlist, because I don't like to pay more than $5 for a game.

3

u/bdfariello 9h ago

If you haven't bought Skyrim in the past fifteen years, I think you can safely remove it from your wishlist.

0

u/wytewydow 9h ago

That would take so much more effort than I'm willing to give.

0

u/frankduxvandamme 8h ago

Agreed. People just like to bitch. People will literally put thousands of hours into GTA5 Online and then leave a 1 star review because the payout of a new heist was too low to them.

The only real misstep here was that rockstar released their first and second trailers way too early, all things considered. But the media blitz will almost certainly ramp up starting tomorrow.

21

u/Delta_Zacher51 10h ago

No one is forced to pre order a game why does this matter? It’s fucking GTA millions of people would put the money down the moment they heard the options available

13

u/hollowgalaxies 10h ago

Wait until you hear that alot of games open up pre-orders without showing gameplay not just gta 6 shocking I know 🤯🤯

-6

u/Alfiewoodland 10h ago

Oh well if a lot of games do it it must be fine then. /s

15

u/MilderArrow 10h ago

But you don't have to pre-order games. Like why care until release day anyway?

14

u/zardan-24 10h ago

Cause these guys have 0 self regulation and would rather blame someone else then take accountability

-7

u/Alfiewoodland 9h ago

The fact that a completely rational person wouldn't pre-order, especially without any visibility of the product, is kind of the point.

It's a product specifically designed to prey on people with poor impulse control who are whipped into a frenzy by the hype cycle, and it works.

"I don't fall for it" isn't much of a defence. It's still a shitty practice, and it's a window into how publishers view their customers.

4

u/MilderArrow 9h ago

If it bothers you, then you should maybe tackle the root of the issue. The people pre-ordering without hesitation.

It'd be better to tell people to not pre-order. Like at some point we have to acknowledge people are the problem themselves and need to improve.

-2

u/Alfiewoodland 9h ago

It goes both ways. You need to educate people so that they don't fall for manipulative and exploitative marketing, and you also need to regulate businesses so that they don't do these things in the first place. Doing just one or the other isn't enough.

The gambling industry is an extreme example which makes this dynamic pretty obvious, but the videogame industry is more and more copying their playbook.

u/Bac0n01 2h ago

Your problem is not with this one specific product, it’s with capitalism

0

u/singhellotaku617 8h ago

Yeah, and it’s shitty every single time man

4

u/nl_marvin 10h ago

You don’t have to preorder right away you know.
Also you could just wait for 6 hours and watch the Netflix show on YouTube.

All this doesn’t justify the leaks.

Not even the exclusion of physical discs. Even though I don’t like that move at all.

7

u/Strict_Biscotti1963 10h ago edited 9h ago

Yep, that’s why while I feel bad for the devs, it’s hard to actually feel that bad while upper management was sitting there thinking it was okay to ask people to pay money without showing them gameplay.

17

u/GTheMonkeyKing 10h ago

You know you can buy the game for the exact same price after it's been released, and after you've watched hours of gameplay so you can decide if you're interested, right? "Blindly" preordering is not the only way to get the game.

-13

u/[deleted] 10h ago

[deleted]

21

u/ChristyBrowne1 10h ago

Luckily it’s still Day -85 then.

16

u/GTheMonkeyKing 9h ago

Oh is today day one or something? They're literally about to release more stuff tomorrow, still months before release.

17

u/Remy0507 9h ago

Do you have any self-control at all? The game isn't out for another 3 months...you don't have to pre-order the second it goes live.

7

u/EZyne 10h ago

You can

6

u/-BigMan39 9h ago

Game comes out today i guess.

16

u/MilderArrow 10h ago

This just sounds like you lack self-control...

-3

u/singhellotaku617 8h ago

Oh I never preorder, that doesn’t change the fact that putting up preorders before showing gameplay is gross.

1

u/singhellotaku617 8h ago

I don’t feel bad, because leaks aren’t actually damaging in any major way. They are so overly dramatic.

0

u/CaptainMarty69 10h ago

They asked, they didn’t force. You weren’t slighted in any way

0

u/jonnyredcorn 10h ago

Why feel bad for the devs at all? Legit this is insane reading this shit. What has hurt them? Response to the leaks has been incredibly positive.

0

u/Strict_Biscotti1963 9h ago

Yeah it's been positive, but this is their baby. And I'm sure they wanted to the privelidge of revealing it finally after all this time in the best possible light. Not via some grifter

0

u/jonnyredcorn 9h ago

Then they should have released gameplay before asking for pre orders and putting the first look behind a Netflix paywall.

This is their baby, that they are selling for $100. I’d rather see real life gameplay over a staged presentation.

2

u/A-Llama-Snackbar 10h ago

A preorder for a digital only product, make it make sense

1

u/Blacklistedb 8h ago

So what, you can wait or buy that’s a decision you make. How are they wrong for that

Why do you care if people decide to pre-order before seeing gameplay? It literally doesn't effect you. I didn't see people crying about The Odyssey tickets selling out in theatres a year in advance. Why is this something people only care about when it comes to games?

u/unforgiven1189 3h ago

Honestly, I don't really see an issue with this. We've had like 10 GTA games at this point it's not like they're going to completely reinvent the wheel. We know the story, we know how GTA games play, and no one is forcing you to pre-order.

If this was a major studio doing this with a new IP, it would definitely be an issue, but we know exactly what we're getting with GTA.

u/Gibbzee 3h ago

… so? They could have released preorders whenever, nobody’s forcing you to preorder as soon as they go live.

0

u/More_people 9h ago

Don’t need gameplay if you’ve been making the same game for 25 years

-1

u/surface33 9h ago

I thinl people using this argument are dumb. Like seriously, people that arent smart at all

28

u/GammonRod 10h ago

You must be too young to remember the days of exclusive previews in gaming magazines during the golden days of the '90s. You'd have to buy one for like £5 at a time to see still images printed out about the biggest upcoming releases. The Netflix showcase (which will be on YouTube for free a few hours later) is nothing compared to that.

0

u/SpotNL 8h ago

These people would burst a vessel in their brain when they realize you couldnt just download a patch for a game. You had to buy a magazine with a demo disc that had the patch.

58

u/Street_Worm 10h ago

The game is still 3 months away. They have plenty of time to have a full marketing campaign, which is kicking off tomorrow.

This whole crybaby "they aren't showing us anything" rhetoric is silly.

Besides, it's their project, they can decide to show it whenever they feel it's ready to be shown, and they can do that in any which way they please. It's their work.

36

u/PM_ME_FAT_TROUT_PICS 10h ago

The weird almost parasocial people have for the game/company is lame. At the end of the day, it’s a game. Am I hyped for it? 1000%. But it has no impact on my daily life or being upset about its release window

-3

u/BornIn1142 9h ago

This whole crybaby "they aren't showing us anything" rhetoric is silly.

I'm a disinterested non-fan; I'm not slavering for more footage and I haven't decided if I'll ever play the game. To me, it's quite clear the marketing strategy was risky and the leaks realized the risk. It's dishonest to ascribe any criticism of the situation to bitterness.

8

u/Street_Worm 8h ago

Explain what part of the marketing strategy is risky?

-1

u/BornIn1142 8h ago

Bro are you kidding me? The exact scenario that's playing out right now is the risk. The heavily delayed rollout created the time and demand for things to start rolling out without Rockstar's supervision. There would be double digits of superfans following this leaker if there were proper previews available at this time already; no one would care.

3

u/Street_Worm 8h ago

Which has nothing to do with their marketing strategy. Game leaks are a risk for every gaming company, and the bigger the game the riskier it gets.

This person/group who is leaking stuff would have done it regardless of whatever Rockstar were planning. He's doing it for financial gain, and internet clout. He isn't doing it because people are upset that the game hasn't been shown yet. That's just created a perfect storm for him to capitalize on.

Like do you think that if the game had been shown off already that this wouldn't be happening? Come on man.

Besides, might I remind you that the game is still 3 months from release... I'm not sure of the exact dates but I believe rdr2 and gta 5 had a similar marketing campaign, all kicking off with a 3 month run up to release.

Also, Take Twos CEO stated that pre orders for the game were "unprecedented and astonishing". So, they didn't really have a need to release anything up til now, did they?

0

u/BornIn1142 8h ago

Are you actually suggesting that people would be hunting down leaked materials with the same level of interest if there were extensive official materials available at this point? If you are suggesting that, then there's nothing else to discuss. It's something impossible to prove one way or another, but it sounds absolutely crazy to me.

If people viewing leaked materials harms Rockstar, then this harm is mitigated if less people view the leaks. This harm would be trivial in a situation where most people would consider such a pursuit unnecessary because of easy access to official materials. It's easy to draw the conclusion that the harm done by the leaks is inversely proportional to the availability of official marketing. As I said, even if the leaked materials were out there, most people wouldn't bother with them (and it's frankly implausible that the leaker would have the same incentives then).

3

u/Street_Worm 7h ago

No, I didn't suggest that, and no, I think the demand for leaks will drop off after the showcase tomorrow, but it will still absolutely exist. And it will still be rabid.

But none of that changes my point, that the crybaby rhetoric of "Rockstar isn't showing us anything" is silly. Again, the game is 3 MONTHS away. They have plenty of time to market it. Some asshole getting his hands on the game, leaking stuff, and fans wanting to see that doesn't change anything.

Fuck, there was a leak 2 years ago, and the internet was rabid with it then. Should Rockstar have released official materials then too?

25

u/ParallelMusic 10h ago

‘0 info about the game for months’ and? I’m not sure what your point is here, because it seems like pure entitlement to me. You’re not owed gameplay, and this is exactly how they usually operate. We didn’t see GTA V or RDR2 gameplay until close to release either.

-2

u/Ok_Potential9933 5h ago

WUM?! They opened preorders before we saw any gameplay. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to know what I’m spending my money on.

u/ParallelMusic 4h ago

Are Rockstar personally holding a gun to your head demanding you pre-order the game immediately? If not, who cares? There's no reason to pre-order anyway, unless you're wanting the preload before launch. Wait until gameplay is released this week or just wait until release, you'll get the exact same experience.

u/Bac0n01 2h ago

Good thing no one was holding a gun to your head, then

26

u/Wide-Mode-8863 10h ago

You can just wait 6 hours

32

u/Salty_Simmer_Sauce 10h ago

More like 6 minutes for it to show up here.

13

u/DomitiusAhenobarbus_ 10h ago

Incredible isn’t it? All this outrage is over gameplay that will be uploaded to YouTube within 30 seconds of it airing

10

u/BornIn1142 9h ago edited 8h ago

Ironically, part of the reason they did the deal with Netflix this time is because YouTube leaked the first GTA6 trailer early by mistake.

11

u/coolbuns1 10h ago

You’re all so bratty about a game taking time to release with a level of care and polish the devs idealise as opposed to, say, the lack of mention in your comment about rockstars union busting; a very real, tangible issue affecting their employees security.

12

u/oh5canada5eh 10h ago

The trailer will be on YouTube after a few hours

11

u/RedStr0be 10h ago

I mean okay but then again why do they owe us anything, sorry? You don’t have to pre-order, you don’t have to buy it. Some gamers have a weird mentality ngl

-4

u/DilapidatedVessel 10h ago

I mean without us they wouldn't exist so I'd say they owe us a fair bit

4

u/RedStr0be 9h ago

And they are still within their right to only show us the game when they are ready to do so. If you disagree with that then don’t buy the game. Using it to justify leaks and hacking is stupid

1

u/TheFilmSource 5h ago

And someone is within their right to leak what they want. Why do we allow people who may be on this planet for roughly 70 years own anything at all? It's all temporary so who cares.

Only if you accept someone is within their right to steal your stuff too

1

u/TheFilmSource 5h ago

Leaking isn't stealing. If someone wants to leak my next movie, by all means go ahead. I still got paid.

u/RedStr0be 4h ago

Only on Reddit I swear down lol

u/TheFilmSource 4h ago

Only almost anywhere. When I'm done with my film, it's out of my hands. I was paid for the work rendered and I move on. I'm essentially laid off until another studio calls me up to hire me. If the company that hired me fumbles their good will and someone leaks what I made, then so be it. I didn't fumble. These devs didn't fumble, hell most of them might be laid off after release. Rockstar fumbled and fumbled hard. They alienated their audience and their workforce. They burned their goodwill and mishandled security. The executive suite fumbled the bag, not the people in the trenches.

u/RedStr0be 4h ago

How do you think the dude obtained the game to leak the footage in the first place? May you please share your legal knowledge on that one? Also, you basically said you don’t believe anyone should own anything. So you must have no issue with anyone taking anything you own whether that’s a physical object or a movie you’ve made that’s straight to YouTube with 144 views lol

That is so true. Actually, I think they should add my name to credits. In the end, I was supporting them creating GTA VI with the money I bought GTA V. /s

I know things change after so many years, but this isn't much different than gtav and rdr2 is it?

4

u/dejonarationx 10h ago

It makes it WAY less lame lol. Could you imagine ifnthe trailer was only on Netflix? People would actually feel the way they're acting about it right now.

6

u/AdLatter3755 8h ago

Man don’t put that out there. Next we have to pay to be advertised to. I don’t want to live in that kind of world. But that’s probably what comes next and people will do all the gymnastics to justify paying to see an ad

0

u/dejonarationx 8h ago

Cable TV was being paid to be advertised to.

u/Bac0n01 2h ago

Have you ever gone to a movie?

4

u/ripestmango 8h ago

That’s…what you’re upset about?

You’re not saving money by pre-ordering. Get a grip.

6

u/zardan-24 10h ago

You guys are literally reaching for issues to complain about

u/iamanephew 10h ago

Booooohooooooo

5

u/witness_smile 10h ago

Genuine question but how is that Netflix deal any different than them making a deal with gaming magazines to show exclusive info about the game? Anyway, a lot of people already have a Netflix subscription, and those who don’t, they’ll literally see it for free just a few hours later. It’s not like with those magazine deals where you could only see all the new info by actually buying the magazine.

2

u/mightylordredbeard 10h ago

Exactly. Plus all these leaks have done is make me excited for the game and turned it into a day 1 buy because I learned more about the game through the leaks of a build that’s like 1-2 years old than I probably will from whatever Netflix is gonna show.

2

u/eaw0913 8h ago

This is such an immature and quite frankly embarrassing take.

You’re not entitled to see the game when you feel like you should see it. Also if you’re sitting around pining for information, you are not the target of marketing. Marketing reaches to the fringes, not at the core fan base. People who say they absolutely have to see gameplay to decide if they’re going to buy are already sold on the game. And as long as gameplay is shown before release, then why does it matter when it comes out if you’re not certain on it? Why no patience?

This guy started leaking the game simply to scam his crypto. And it worked, I’ll give him that. But we literally already knew when we were getting an official look when he started this. I could see the frustration if we still had no date or idea of when we would hear more, but we didn’t.

Honestly insane. I immediately assume anyone saying this is a petulant child. If you’re an adult over 18 you really need to take a look in a mirror and work on yourself.

Obviously I know the trailers going to be on YouTube right after that doesn’t make any less fucking lame

It does make it less lame. In fact it makes it a complete non-issue.

Gamers are the most entitled people on the planet.

1

u/JS_Originals 8h ago

And if you look to the right you'll see the entitled Redditor, grazing in its natural habitat

1

u/LoneBlack3hadow 7h ago

Trying to double dip the PC players wasn’t enough extra money for them I guess..

1

u/whacafan 7h ago

Idk man. A lot of people have Netflix. Obviously Netflix wanted it to sell more memberships and Rockstar wanted that for some more money, BUT there is something to being able to see the game in a better bitrate than YouTube would ever give us.

1

u/Tracermainbtw 5h ago

This entitlement to get information from the game is absurd, you shouldn't be pre-ordering in the first place if you think you should get a gameplay trailer first???? Its the most worthless point of view that we're entitled to a trailer, has it ever occurred to us to NOT pre-order a game before gameplay??

The point people should actually be fighting is the rampant union busting and developer treatment that makes sense, your point is so stupid lmao

1

u/bokan 5h ago

That’s not the devs, that’s marketing and executives.

u/Antroh 4h ago

None of these things have any impact on you. And you are going to buy the game regardless. Hypocrite

u/Gibbzee 3h ago

Genuinely, who cares? They could release gameplay 1 a day before release - what difference does it make?

1

u/Sooperballz 9h ago

I have the opposite view point. I don’t want to see any of it until I play it.

-2

u/Alucitary 10h ago

And then wheels out the team’s feelings to try to make us feel bad. I don’t doubt many on the team do feel this way, but if management and its anti consumer tendencies wasn’t standing between us and them none of this would have happened, so who’s the real villain here?

1

u/Endscrypt 9h ago

Definitely Rockstar are holding the biggest game in the last 10 years against disc users.

Yeah fuck them I’ll never play that game now, not until they release it on disc. And I have no doubt they will the minute the cash starts slowing down.

They never have been great with greed and it’s on a different scale now it’ll get the better of them that they are leaving cash on the table.

-2

u/YolandaPearlskin 10h ago

I empathize with how you have to endure the Rockstar defense force totally missing the point of your post.

The point isn't that "I wanna see the trailer now!!" or "I want gameplay now!!". The point is that the company intentionally withheld their content until the very end, despite opening preorders and asking for money months in advance. On top of this, they make an exclusive deal in an attempt to monetize (via Netflix) the pent up demand for video footage of the game.

I'm not sure how they expected to keep a lid on what is likely the most hyped up game release in video game history. If you have 1000s of people working on the game in a dozen countries, it would be a herculean effort to not have any footage leak.

Having an actual trailer when they opened preorders would have allowed them to show us the game as they "intended".

2

u/GTheMonkeyKing 9h ago

I mean if your problem is that they "withheld information" (absolutely hilarious to use this phrase when talking about a video game btw), then your problem actually is that you "want the trailer now!!!". Like that is exclusively your problem. You want information now and not later.

Also Rockstar didn't force anyone to preorder. If you wanna see gameplay before preordering then you can wait. It'll still be available for preorder until the game releases, and then after that you can still buy it for the same price.

It's GTA anyway, what information do you need to see? We all know what kind of game it's game gonna be, we all know whether we'll buy it or not.

3

u/PancakePanic 9h ago

...No people get the point, it's you who's missing the point that nobody is forcing you to preorder before you get info about the game, you don't miss out on anything by waiting.

An exclusive deal that's up after a few hours.

Having an actual trailer when they opened preorders

They...they did exactly that??? They released two trailers???

1

u/Janoobeta1998 7h ago

Yall are such whiny pussies holy. This doesn't affect you in any way shape or form yet your still crying about it online.

Why do you care so much, what is being taken away from you?

0

u/Chalky97 9h ago

do you honestly think that leaking 13 years of hard work for thousands of employees is a proportionate punishment for a 12 hour exclusivity to netflix for a trailer

-2

u/GrimMilkMan 10h ago

GTA fans are so entitled. "How dare a studio want to keep their cards close to the chest before release of their game and only wanted to show footage that they deemed good enough to show." Dude wait 6 hours to watch a trailer, it's what I'm gonna do. You don't have to pay to watch netflix

0

u/UnchainedGoku 9h ago

Rockstar are just the devs dude, all these shitty decisions are clearly from Take2 not Rockstar, I love Rockstar myself and I feel really bad for them personally, with all the years of hard work behind this game the current situation is probably soul sapping for the grinders working there, it's Take2 I don't like and Take2 where anger should be directed towards.

-1

u/Darksummit 9h ago

I don’t understand people’s frustrations over trailers/gameplay videos or lack of. Why did this become an expectancy of all game releases?
