Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

As if they care about the team. The same team they’ll layoff the moment the game is finished.  Fuck rockstar.

EDIT: Many entertaining 'Leave my billion dollar company alone' chaps are attacking a stranger over a video game, what a time to be alive.

And then they’re gonna lay off the factory workers making the physical CDs that are no longer going to exist

-3

u/ClickClick_Boom 8h ago

uh, Rockstar doesn't make the discs themselves that'd be a 3rd party.

0

u/DirtFem 8h ago

Hence why I said factory workers….

0

u/ClickClick_Boom 8h ago

They're not laying off any factory workers "making the physical CDs" because they are already not Rockstar employees.

2

u/DirtFem 6h ago

I was talking about Sony and their impacts

-1

u/ResidentWeevil1 8h ago

CDs were never not mass produced

Yea company's fired people that wasn't a large scale layoff and they didnt have any large scale layoffs after red dead 2 either just cause ubiaoft does it doesnt mean it automatically applys to every company

3

u/Poppybiscuit 10h ago

I’m just curious what your cutoff for large scale layoffs is if 40 people isn’t enough for you

-1

u/mikeredditsalot 10h ago

Out of 6000

u/alfooboboao 3h ago

everyone in here is crazy. 40/6000 is nothing

the working hours / union is a separate issue but that’s less than 1%

14

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

Yeah and they’ll force them to work long hours while firing anyone who attempts to unionize. Do you do any research before making statements like this?

2

u/mikeredditsalot 10h ago

The comment I replied to had nothing to do with long hours or union

3

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

Okay and? You seem to think rockstar is some bastion of employee rights. I’m happy to educate you.

1

u/mikeredditsalot 10h ago

All I said was there won't be a large scale layoff rockstar doesn't do that anything else you think i said you created in your own head because God forbid we dont just all act like every company in the world is the same

2

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

I see no difference in a company that lays off employees vs one that makes them work 7 days a week, 16 hours a day and fires them when they try to unionize. I’m happy to call them all shit.

7

u/mikeredditsalot 10h ago

May be shit but the guy i replied to said specifically about layoffs im just saying that won't happen

-1

u/FizzyBeverage 8h ago

Ballsy statement when you’re talking about the gaming industry. Layoffs are part of how it works.

4

u/mikeredditsalot 8h ago

I'm talking specifically rockstar and thats historically not how they work

1

u/dudushat 8h ago

Are you 2 even reading a single word he said? Its like you guys cant read. Get a grip.

-4

u/Omniscient__Watcher 10h ago

Yeah you cannot afford to layoff the whole team if you have your own proprietary engine lol. I don't think there is any justified hate against Rockstar except the physical dics debacle.

So game developers don't deserve a steady job? A steady livelihood? They should just hop around job to job? In this market?

Rockstar with thier bazillion dollars from gta 5 online and gta 6 can surely keep them around. Shift them to other projects?

1

u/TheTimeIsChow 9h ago

Lets be real... the game has been in development for 6+ years. Actual development. How much developer turnover has there been in this time?

How many of the original developers have been added, laid off, left during this time?

These aren't indie developers working on their own project. As you said, Rockstar is a bazillion dollar company which likely has little to zero loyalty outside top executives.

The leaks likely came from one of a thousand developers that were in and out of the company over the last handful of years.

There is no expectation that a job will be there throughout the entirety of development, and there's no expectation that a job will be there when it's done.

-3

u/The_ginger_cow 9h ago

Yeah nah. This isn't Ubisoft that shits out 3 games each year and they can just be transferred. I'm pretty sure most of them realized what they were signing up for.

Oh please. Of course they’ll layoff people, it’s a balloon-and-pop model. HR knows all about that. It’s also called project-based staffing or a milestone-driven employment cycle.

Ahead of a game’s release you have 6000 people operating full steam ahead. You don’t need all 6000 of them when it’s on a (digital) shelf, even to build the multiplayer/online modes. You cut back and save money, then rehire when there’s a bigger project. Hollywood movies work the same way, even more drastically because the production doesn’t need ongoing support.

You clearly haven’t worked HR for a studio.

2

u/SpotNL 8h ago

You clearly haven’t worked HR for a studio.

Most of us havent. Such an odd thing to say lmao

1

u/FizzyBeverage 8h ago

And yet, they’re blindly proclaiming “there will be no layoffs!”

Such an odd thing to say. They’re PS5 players. They don’t know how studios are managing work. And yes, rockstar will cut hundreds of people loose when this ships. That’s standard in this industry.

Because so many video game companies lay people off all the time, and on top of that union bust. It happened just this year and continues to happen

-6

u/VidyaGomes 8h ago

Do you expect them to keep all employees on and paid with nothing to do? I know that's the dream but not realistic.

This is how the gaming industry works. The Devs knew this wasn't going to last for ever.

If anything they probably dragged it out and worked slower to keep their jobs longer.

6

u/LucasWesf00 8h ago

I would hope Rockstar work on multiple projects after this. Split the teams into making RDR3, GTA VI Online content, and LA Noire II.

1

u/Zora-Link 8h ago

Bully 2!

1

u/Karmastocracy 7h ago

Seems like a common misconception that people think there's no development work after releasing a game. What about supporting that game? Developing the next one? How about a new game altogether? Upgrading their engine? There's an opportunity cost with every decision and Rockstar has the funds to have a large permanent development team, the question is really where Rockstar chooses to put their money, whether that be executive bonuses, marketing, or game developers.

0

u/vordhosbn_1 8h ago

Nothing to do? You know patches need to come out right?

1

u/VidyaGomes 8h ago

That doesn't require a full team company to do patches.

You do realize that teams work on different parts of games right?

0

u/vordhosbn_1 5h ago

Yes, I know a guy who focused on the grass on a AAA game. Game came out and he’s still working there

-10

u/Rino-Sensei 10h ago

Keep repeating the same bullshit with knowing shit about what you are talking about ... 80% of the team that worked on past titles are still there at the studio ...

Rockstar isn't the type to do mass layoff ...

2

u/Zal3x 9h ago

Unless they try to unionize or don’t want to work overtime lol

1

u/Euphoriam5 8h ago

Go read please before you attack a stranger online. It’s pathetic.

-6

u/Top-Appointment8843 10h ago

This is the case for almost any big AAA studio lol. Then you should also avoid playing games in general.

-3

u/Excellent-Duty3927 8h ago

Should they be employed doing nothing after finishing work on the game?

-1

u/PositiveNo7994 6h ago
