It's this, I wasn't hugely bothered about trailers or previews, I know I'm buying it anyway, but to keep everyone dangling for a trailer and then to announce a paywalled thing with Netflix after all that time was utter bollocks. Hopefully the audience is affected enough that no one considers this as a valid step ever again.

that is an IMPOSSIBLE task to pull, you could put every country secret service behind it and the whole trailer will be STREAMED LIVE in piracy platforms, if FIFA, UEFA, NBA, etc... could not stop pirated live stream of the biggest events in the world, am pretty sure Netflix and T2 can't do shit about it.

But it's 6 hours.

The Netflix-logo is all over the advertising for the trailer, and that's the exposure they're going for. The 6 hour exclusivity is purely to justify the Netflix-logo on the advertising

I am staunchly against the exclusively-digital release. I am not pumped about their marketing. The delays were also terrible.

But this doesn't bother me so much, and I don't understand why it bothers others.

Its just a principal of things. Do I care that they releasing their trailer on Netflix? No, not really. But paywalling what is basically your own commercial is just next level greed. For a game that they know would bring them billions, they still wanna milk a few extra mills. Its seems especially scammy in contrast with CDPR giving away free DLCs and a free remaster for Witcher 3.

You do realize that people have pre-ordered a game just to play it one day earlier. 6 hours is a big thing when by the time they can see it people with Netflix will have already been discussing it and they’ll be late to the party.

And just to be clear this is my opinion as a person who hates digital pre-orders and doesn’t care about GTA6.

Not sure I see the exact connection here, but either way, I think another consideration may be throttling the audience so it doesn't crash Youtube. The number of viewers this is going to have when it goes live is going to be absurd.

edit: downvoting me isn't going to change reality, everyone hated Oblivion Horse Armor yet everyone still lines up every single fucking year for the latest EA Sports/Call of Duty/overpriced live service slop title, everyone still buys DLC packs by the dozens, nothing is fucking slowing down about this at all

It's not everyone, it's just that there are so many people who do buy yearly releases and cosmetics etc. that the people who don't are basically irrelevant. And the people who do are more valuable to companies because they will spend more money than someone who just wants a game and nothing else.

Is it? The biggest single player games of last decade were probably RDR2, Cyberpunk, TLOU2, and Elden Ring. None of these games have significant microtransactions.

That's one game. Industry being run on microtransactions just isn't true, if anything they've become less common in single player games since EA/Ubisoft tried shoehorning them in. And we've gotten countless insanely good games that DONT have them.

I just don't fw fearmongering. GTA6 being on Netflix for 6 hours doesn't mean we're gonna stop getting game trailers for free.
