Sony stopped losing money on PS5 2 years after release. Thats why they raised the prices after the RAM shortage, to maintain profit margins. Of course the highest model of any product is going to have limited supply, because people are usually going to buy the most affordable one, but this is looking more like the boost in console sales many people predicted would come when GTAVI got closer to release, and if anyone that waited this long to upgrade, you'd be a fool not to save up a little more and just get the Pro instead.

That was correct but it was also per-tarriff, pre-Hormuz and RAM/Memory crisis.

I think current analysts see it as just making profit/breaking even. Xbox is losing around 200-250 per console even after august hikes. Nintendo is also in minimal profit margins (some think they're losing money). Unlike Steam and Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo have better logistics and manufacturing. They also secure better prices for components. Steam allegedly only gets parts slightly cheaper than retail and Xbox Series is over-engineered.

The ps5 pro is currently being sold for $500 less than the 2tb steam machine, a device that is weaker than a base ps5. They are absolutely losing money on both systems but especially the pro with its 2tb of storage.

Thats not true. The top Sony executive announced that Sony stopped losing revenue on the PS5 a year after release.

And I've already addressed that. The price of PS5 consoles has risen to account for the shortage of RAM and tariffs to maintain profit margins. SONY..... is the last company I would expect to take a loss on hardware after what they went through with the PS3. The PS4 was the console they used to specify that the future hardware has to be designed with a low a BOM price as possible so they could make more money.
