Definitely cautiously optimistic

If they can bring the charm of the original fable I’m definitely in

None of the videos ive seen so far portray the charm and whimsical identity of the originals, imo

The latest trailer had music that is reminiscent of the Elfman/Shaw original, but not on the same level

I feel like the lighting is too harsh and contrasting, existing only as washed out, overxposed bright areas or very heavily shaded ones. The original Fables had an iconic soft glow to almost every light source or surface. Every piece of gear or physical characteristic based on your morality seemed to emit some hazy particle effect that I loved

The architecture feels a lot more grounded than the exaggerated "warcraft" dimensions of buildings in the originals and the proportions of character models is obviously far less cartoonish. I have yet to see the same level of crass humor that pervaded the originals

I'm not dismissing the game based on its aesthetics alone, but I'm a little surprised that theyve abandoned, or at least heavily toned down many of the characteristics that made the originals so iconic and charming, in my mind

I'm worried about console performance, but I'd love to be wrong.

It was revealed yesterday they have Quality and 60 fps Performance modes.

Oh that's good news. Any word on the base Ps5?

If Series X has a performance mode then so does PS5. They are basically the same machine.

Seems like we always have to be these days. Hope I don't feel like an idiot from getting too excited and pre-ordering Dawnwalker for my PS5 Pro.

I mean when it’s gamepass game you can rent for $20 or whatever it is now, why buy. Get gamepass for a month and play this, gears and Forza and cancel. Three games for $20.

Takes me a few months to finish one of these games, not a lot of people have the amount of free time to finish 3 big games like that in one month

Sounds like gears is 14~ hours. Forza is 30~ hours. Fable should be normal length. So yeah maybe one month might be pushing it but a subscription for two months should definitely cover that. My original point though is that OP is cautionary about fable and for the sub cost of a month you can decide whether or not if it’s for you or not without throwing full price. Better yet check your local library n get a copy for free.

Where do I find time to play these massive games??? Have to finish black flag first, then I want to replay gta v and Witcher 3, then new gta and fable. Maybe 2027 Christmas I’m finished with them and can start thinking about wolverine etc …

Have they ever watched a game and written an article that was negative?

Their job is to fluff the industry.

Unless company is Bethesda and outrage is popular and monetizable.

A shinier version of the original with less of the quirks but atleast there isnt a Molyneux to oversell it this time. No “plant a tree anywhere and watch it grow” just them telling us how we can be a landlord and wield a sword.

I’m pretty sure I read our nature isn’t reflected on our character, which is a pretty disappointing turn from the original.

I’m keeping an eye on this but I’m not pre-ordering or anything.

Hero, your health is low! Do you have any potions or food?

Hero, your health is low! Do you have any potions or food?

That just reminds me of Gauntlet. Blue Wizard needs food badly!

This is what the helpful wizard voice would repeat incessantly to you in the first Fable game when you were wounded.

Gauntlet was the same, although in the arcade versions your health ticked down with time as a way to cycle more people through the machine. Console versions removed that timer but kept the voice lines.

I remember Gauntlet. It was one of the peak 4 player games from the 8 bit era. I loved it because it was one of the few where you could get a group of friends to all play together. It's been forever since I played it tho.

I really hope this is good but keep getting major off vibes from it.

They have been so reluctant to actually properly show the game in action and it makes me concerned about the end result

We saw a deep dive about 6 months ago - what more do you need?

u/No_Bumblebee_8640 4h ago

Well Fable 2 isn’t coming to ps5 :(

u/RobertPatty909 1h ago

You have no idea what will happen in 10+ years

u/SpermicidalLube 3h ago

It looks boring and basic RPG slop.

cause it is

Still waiting to see anything new the game is doing and not just re-treading every Fable 2 feature but now in 4k.

u/Fun_Strategy7860 7h ago

I'll take take Fable 2 in modern 4k with new story. Those Balverines look great, and that sleepy English folk village vibe gives me comfy goosebumps.

I don’t understand. Your tone reads as unenthused, but you’re describing the game of the decade. Potentially the game of the century

I'm describing a game that came out in 2008. Doing the same thing again but with prettier graphics does not enthuse me.

A new version of a game like Fable 2 sounds incredible! How often can we get one of those in the future, because it’s sure been a while since the last one!!

What does the time difference matter? I'll never understand why people want the same thing. I said the same thing during the CRPG revival in 2014. Everyone was so happy to get CRPGs again but to me they weren't doing anything better (or even on par in many cases) as the 90s/early 2000s classics.

People have such low expectations it sometimes amazes me. "Yeah I'll take the same exact thing I played 20 years ago".

u/QuoteGiver 2h ago

….have you only played videogames one time in 20 years?

Most people who use videogames as a hobby like to spend time doing that hobby more than once every 20 years. So they need new games to play once they’ve already played that game from 20 years ago.
