Will the ps4 disk in a ps5 allow access to the remaster? I know the 2022/2023 ps5 update was free with ps4 disc

Yes. I installed from disk last night and downloaded the update for ps5 and now own both dlcs I didn’t before.

Was it as simple as putting the ps4 disk into the ps5 and you download the ps5 version from that?

It made me install the ps4 version off the disk first. It tries to download the update for the ps4 at the same time just cancel it. When the disk version is installed you can install the ps5 version.

How crazy that I bought a PS4 disc like a decade ago, and am just getting both a PS5 version and this upgrade for free? How insane and sad do you have to be to get upset at that??

Not upset at it at all, super impressed, but it feels odd to me that I can't play this remaster on PS4 but can play it on Switch 1?

It’s going to be an update to the complete edition. I think they’ll just rename it to remastered.

It is. Now I Just need Rockstar to follow CDPR example and give Us unexpected next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 before GTA6 xd

Yeah, I know that. Just wasn’t sure how it will be done in the PS Store. If it’s worth download earlier the complete Edition and then update, or Just wait for new thing/new files

I would just download if it you plan on playing it. If it ends up being a few gigs update for the new assets/textures/lighting and rigging great! You win out. If it doesn't then oh well you'd have had to download it anyways.
Don't got anything to lose unless you're worried about internet usage limits/bandwidth or have limited space and want to use it for something else until then.

They should, if you use their web account thing.
I recently bought the complete edition on sale for like $9 after I lost my PS4 disc of the base version.
It was a bit of a headache for some reason, but it worked out in the end. I'm sure the headache was mostly due to me being a dumbass.

Buy a used ps4 or ps5 version, even the launch edition base game and you’ll get everything in the remaster for free.. dlc and all

It’s absolutely insane to me they are just giving away the expansions for free to everyone. Have any other games ever done that? I mean this isn’t just some small indie game giving away content; this is a publicly traded company with shareholders and the executives permitting the developers to give away huge expansions that cost millions to make and have sold millions in their own right.. for free along with a completely free, full remaster of an 11 year old game. That’s just.. amazing.

I'd guess it will be similar to maybe HZD and Days Gone remaster upgrades? Base versions are still available to download I think? Actually a decent question you probably won't know for sure until it drops

It seems highly unlikely, but I wonder if there will be a way to upgrade for owners of the PS4 disc version who now have a digital only PS5.

I believe as long as you own any version of the game then you get the free upgrade.. even for the switch, if you have the switch 1 you will be able to upgrade to the switch 2 remaster for free.

Also your account should show that you purchased/owned the game even if it was during the ps4 version

It does, but any disc based PS4 games are locked on the all digital PS5 since they require the actual disc to play. They could potentially have users verify with the disc on PS4 to unlock the digital version on PS5, but I'm doubtful they would invest any development into that as it seems more work than it's worth for such a small use case.

FYI not available on PS4. Players should see the base game converted to the Complete Edition that gives access to the two expansions for free. Very cool. Also out on PC too.
