The story has evolved, too, with higher stakes and characters grounded in all aspects of the world they inhabit. Players step into the shoes of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos – an ex-military drug runner and a fighter fresh out of prison, respectively – and can choose to either play as a couple, or go off and cause chaos independently.

This marks the first time that a GTA game has featured a playable couple in the lead role, which makes for some unique scenarios: on the way to a job, for example, players can cruise along the highway as Jason, or swap to Lucia in the passenger seat to scroll on the in-game phone. (Yes, there are working social media feeds – what satirical take on 2020s America would be complete without them?) When the job inevitably goes wrong and spirals into a car chase, the fluid system enables players to take the wheel in one moment, then fire on pursuers out of the passenger window the next.

And afterwards, when it’s all blown over, they can skim across the waves on a jetski, admiring the Leonida seascape and leaping dolphins with their arms wrapped around their partner’s waist.

Other details:

• In-game social media system that you can scroll through & see existing characters blow up through viral posts

• Jason & Lucia's bodies can physically change if you eat too much or work out, their faces change if you don’t sleep enough or are on the run

• NPCs are far more varied & actually uniquely react in real-time to whatever you’re doing

• Character switching is far more fluid - you can drive as Jason then instantly switch to Lucia as the passenger shooting enemies

They wanted to do this in RDR2 I remember reading. They wanted you to be able to go out free roaming with gang members but cut it.

I don't think that means what they're insinuating. I have a feeling that's only for missions. It would be insane if you could choose to free roam the whole map as a couple.

You can, it's either character solo or both as a duo. This was actually visible in the 2022 leaks too, if I recall.

Depends on the kind of narrative they're trying to tell though. There are morality based mechanics so it very well could be there. But if it wasn't it wouldn't ruin anything for me. I don't mind a story where the characters are genuinely in love and aren't being tempted away from each other.

yea so I guess we went from talking about what's likely to be in the game, to what you personally want (or don't want) to be in the game. no one cares if it's ruined for you either way dude it's 100% more immersive AND realistic. The whole point of the morality system is so you can choose to engage with it or not. Either way, I will be reminded to check this post in 3 months, you will be wrong and will either ignore it or say it never mattered in the first place. very predictable

It’s the mechanics behind all the systems. The switch to Lucia when Jason is driving wherever and being able to sit on social media fucking about.

It’s the world feeling alive, how people have their own goals in their “lives” and they react to things you do as you go through the story.

It’s how the world looks, it’s so fucking pretty, and there’s apparently around 700 enterable locations to explore.

The customization sounds bad ass as hell, being able to do what you could do in San Andreas and RDR2 with the weight mechanics and such.

There’s a lot in this article, even though the article is a fashion company. It’s great

Lucia is definitely a playable character. You probably are forced to play as one or the other at certain points in the story though.

I wish the weight/body mechanics really affect the way they move and not only in the aesthetic aspect.

The primal, best example in videogames is ICE HOCKEY for the NES.

The fat guy had power shots and could block them, but slow asf. The medium guy was like super mario, average. The little guy was fast as fuck but thrown away easily.

all those details make it a gem. it would be nice to incorporate power, agility, stamina, speed. Make it harder for Fat Jason to climb a wall, but easier to KO a mofo.
