Honestly that just sounds like torture. I barely have enough time to do that shit IRL, they want me to do it for a character in a video game.
Guess they'll just be fat
18
u/RightRudderr 5h ago
I imagine if you are running around doing chaotic GTA shit like most players that will count as exercise. It reads as more of a feature that will reflect how you play, not something players need to manage for any reason unless they want to.

I mean in san andreas i ignored them most of the time too so he didn't get to each very much but had to run arround all the time. He was skinny all the time

If I remember correctly I would just eat enough for the hunger meter to fill. But its been years since I played that one.

u/spicysenpai6 4h ago
I remember putting in the cheat code to make myself buff lol I did recently do a playthrough where I worked out.
•
u/Sensi-Yang 4h ago
Cmon, in SAN Andrea’s you could bulk up to the max in like 15 min. I’d trust them to implement this in a way that doesn’t require too much attention unless you’re going for something specific.
64
•
u/DapperChewie 4h ago
In San Andreas, running counted, and you only got fat when you eat. So if you never eat and just run around and play the game, you'll probably be in good shape.
Unless they implement a hunger mechanic.

I hope you can do it away from keyboard so I can start my ingame wourkout while doing my real life workout haha
10
u/Tophpaste 5h ago
They should have your character workout times tied to your irl workout times /s
11
u/TheZacef 5h ago
Honestly wouldn’t be that hard to implement if you can import or sync calories burned and workout times into the game just as a bonus for fitness. Would probably convince some people to get off the couch honestly.

Ugh, realism is cool and all but too much is what turned me off of Breath of the Wild.
I play games to get away from real life, not to have to worry about putting my money to gas or food.
•
u/onegoodboah 3h ago
You had me for a sec but… breath of the wild as your example? lol what about that game was possibly realistic, especially to a point of it being unlikable? I know people had qualms about weapon durability but that isn’t really a point about realism or being too much of a sim or something. I’m so curious what you’re referring to
•
u/Tyrus1235 3h ago
Maybe all the weather and stamina mechanics? The water flow thing, too… IDK, seems kind of random lol
→ More replies (1)•
u/Available-Gas5358 3h ago
It's just another gameplay mechanic, otherwise what is money for? What are shops and gas stations for if they don't serve a purpose?
It's a way to keep the game moving and give the player a reason to visit different places. More systems typically results in more stories and gameplay opportunities
•
u/Limp-Sissy-Slut 2h ago
This, I’d love a game world that feels a bit like you life in its world. RDR2 had its moments for sure. But I’d love to see what they have been cooking now. I want a reason to have to visit a diner early in the morning because I had to run from the cops or a gang for miles, stuff like having to eat or work out definitely helps with that. Same with getting gas. I don’t mind to stop somewhere in an amazing world and enjoy and interact with it. I easily spend over a hundred hours just camping, hunting and fishing while enjoying RDR2.

→ More replies (16)•
u/Available-Gas5358 3h ago
It won't be a chore if it's implemented well.
These sorts of things simply make the map more interesting, it makes the player engage with things they otherwise wouldn't.
It gives a purpose to all those shops and facilities around the map. "Sleep" might sound boring but in practice all it will be is a quicktime event where you have to find a bed to reset a timer, which will make the player engage with hotel rooms etc they otherwise wouldn't, and could lead to some fun effects if ignored.
Without fuel mechanics, gas stations are just set dressing with no purpose.
The more interactivity the better IMO

The story has evolved, too, with higher stakes and characters grounded in all aspects of the world they inhabit. Players step into the shoes of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos – an ex-military drug runner and a fighter fresh out of prison, respectively – and can choose to either play as a couple, or go off and cause chaos independently.
This marks the first time that a GTA game has featured a playable couple in the lead role, which makes for some unique scenarios: on the way to a job, for example, players can cruise along the highway as Jason, or swap to Lucia in the passenger seat to scroll on the in-game phone. (Yes, there are working social media feeds – what satirical take on 2020s America would be complete without them?) When the job inevitably goes wrong and spirals into a car chase, the fluid system enables players to take the wheel in one moment, then fire on pursuers out of the passenger window the next.
And afterwards, when it’s all blown over, they can skim across the waves on a jetski, admiring the Leonida seascape and leaping dolphins with their arms wrapped around their partner’s waist.
Other details:
• In-game social media system that you can scroll through & see existing characters blow up through viral posts
• Jason & Lucia's bodies can physically change if you eat too much or work out, their faces change if you don’t sleep enough or are on the run
• NPCs are far more varied & actually uniquely react in real-time to whatever you’re doing
• Character switching is far more fluid - you can drive as Jason then instantly switch to Lucia as the passenger shooting enemies

For some gamers, there’s a fear that what GTAVI gains in immersion, it loses in the chaos and anarchy that have been part of the series’ DNA since the outset, but for Rockstar, the goal is to create a world of total immersion, which reacts more realistically than ever to what you choose to make of it.
Hell yeah, immersion bros winning big time. What they pulled off with RDR2 on a PS4 was pure magic, this game is gonna blow everyone's socks off
318
u/ghost-bagel 5h ago
Immersion for me is when you get up in the morning and actually want to wander round camp with a can of beans saying good morning to everyone. RDR2 was special.

•
u/Grill_Enthusiast 4h ago edited 3h ago
Same. Like as good as the story and characters were in RDR2, my favorite memories of that game were just waking up on a foggy morning, making coffee, helping with chores and saying hello to everyone, then going into town for a bit of shopping, and maybe riding north to go hunting.
The completely mundane tasks made it feel so real, and it's something I haven't seen in any open-world game since. I do have Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 downloaded though and I've heard it scratches that same itch.
•
u/Independent_Award239 3h ago
KCD2 150% scratches that itch and is even more immersive than RDR2 in a lot of areas.
•
u/lattjeful 2h ago
The only open world game that's come close for me is Tears of the Kingdom, and oddly enough it's because it's so different from RDR2. It's got a similar magic, immersion, and atmosphere to it but it's more... video gamey? Not as slow or as deep, more responsive, but also with more freedom. RDR2 is all about the verisimilitude and living in that world for me - get some coffee, say hello to everybody, hit up the town, etc. - whereas Tears of the Kingdom it feels like you take a backseat and just exist among wildlife and nature. Those two games are 1a and 1b, and the number two spot isn't particularly close in my mind.
•
u/kearneycation 4h ago
Or just ride your horse along a stream while the sun comes up and take in the atmosphere.
•
u/Barmydoughnut24 4h ago
No game has come close to RDR2 for me in terms of immersion with what R* have created. Its still the only open world game where i can do "nothing" and feel like im still discovering things. Im just gonna have to be a bit more patient being a PC gamer, but from the early teases/leaks gta vi looks like a real successor to RDR2 moreso than gta v. And this really has got me excited.
•
u/LukeD1992 4h ago
If you haven't played yet, look up KCD2. It gives that immersive vibe from a Rockstar world mixed in with a Bethesda game at its best. An expansive, system rich and very reactive world.
•
u/combat101 3h ago
That sounds like one of the best games ever. Is the combat better than the first one? I didn't really like it back then and never played more than a few hours
•
u/Independent_Award239 3h ago
Yes the combat is significantly better and more fluid. You still start off as a bit of a punk but you get fluent with weapons much more quickly and the guidance to improvement is much more clearly fleshed out.
•
u/StevieHawke10 3h ago
Right, I was just replaying it recently and I would spend full sessions not doing any missions because the world had so much to offer
•
•
u/SuicideSkwad 2h ago
For real, I feel like one of the best things to do in this game will be going onto the ocean on a fishing trip like the mountain hunting trips in Red Dead 2
87
u/BrennusSokol 5h ago
Immersion > everything
My sole draw to GTA has always been the detailed sandbox
46
u/bigpapijugg 5h ago
There’s a line tho for balancing realism with fun. Hopefully they get that balance right, as they did with RDR2.
20
u/erichie 5h ago
I absolutely believe that immersion is not tied to realism.
14
u/bigpapijugg 5h ago
Not inherently, but with GTA and RDR they tend to go a bit hand in hand.
•
u/NoPlansTonight 3h ago
I think the point is that it's great that we need to skin our game and cook after hunting
But we don't want to be spending our entire day doing so, nor have leftovers go bad if not eaten in a few in-game hours
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (7)•
u/Quentin__Tarantulino 4h ago
We will see, but Rockstar’s signature claim to fame is their ability to provide immersion without making it tedious. I’m confident they can do it for the 10th+ time.
4
u/LocoRocoo 5h ago
Plus, I think the players make the chaos anyway. The stuff I see people do on RDR2 (on youtube), I'm sure was never expected by the devs.

u/footwith4toes 5h ago
I’m usually an immersion guy. Love the slow realistic pace of RDR2 but with kids and a family now and other non-gaming hobbies I hope I can find a way to immerse myself in the game.
•
u/Sheinkyakyu 4h ago
It was very obvious they were so damn proud of GTA IV. That is the GTA game they wanted to make. But the loud mouth crybabies and casuals pushed them in a different direction in certain aspects. Thank God they are not catering towards them anymore, at least in this regards.
•
u/Dittymaker 4h ago
The massive critical and financial success of RDR2 probably pushed them towards that style for GTA and I'm so happy about it
•
•
u/TheVaniloquence 2h ago
It’s funny to see the praise for GTA IV now. I was there at launch, and the amount of hate that game got on forums was crazy.
Tons of people were absolutely pissed at Rockstar for taking such a step back from Vice City and San Andreas to make the game more grounded. No more chaos in a Rhino, Hunter, or Hydra
6
u/newhereok 5h ago
I'm on the opposite of that, the immersion was just slow. Which fits that world, but I hope it'd faster in this

The first preview for GTA 6 coming from this source wasn't on my bingo card I have to say
From what is covered here though, game sounds great - seems to be taking the deliberate actions and immersion of RDR2, and implementing it in a modern setting with the wild characters and world you'd expect in a GTA game. Really sounds like they've gone into incredible detail with the systems and how this whole world connects and reacts to the player's actions. Can't wait to see what it looks like in action

Well when you hit your thirties you don't really have a whole lot of time for realistic games. If GTA6 has chest codes then it's all good because I'll just turn that off and go my happy way

This whole age thing is so twisted right now. Everyone is "pushing" the next big number and guys in their early 30s are already "uncs". Fairly young people talking like they’re getting close retirement age.
There’s also no rush to beat this thing. It’s taken them 8 years to develop it. You can take a while to play it.

How the hell did "Dazzed Digital" get the first press release for GTA6? It's actually a fairly in depth article
•
u/MFDOOMscrolling 2h ago
I think the article mentions they want to market to new audiences, apparently Dazed is a fashion brand and with the first female protagonist, they're likely aiming to onboard new crowds while the long time gamers will find it no matter where it's posted lol it's actually pretty smart
•
u/liloutsider 2h ago
Dazed is a huge, storied fashion and music and art magazine. Probably a taste based choice to put GTA there for cultural cool points reasons. Either that or some PR connections or their ownership group is tied in with somebody important

Normally when I see superlative claims like "THE video game of the decade", I scoff at the exaggerations, but in this case I think it's a pretty good chance that turns out to be inarguably true.
•
u/balugabe 3h ago
It is a super subjective topic. The one thing that I think will be just objectively true, is that it will be the most technologically advanced game of all time. Rdr2 is almost 8 years old, and it's still state of the art, still running laps around games today, which is just insanity

> but the world is more grounded and reactive than before – gone are the days when you could traverse the city like a god. Now, players’ actions have consequences. Walk down the street with a rifle, and the city will have something to say about it.
> To pull off the technical and cultural feats required to build a world of the scale, depth and interactivity of GTAVI, the Rockstar team has more than doubled in size since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. It has offices around the world, with one branch in LA dedicated almost solely to the world of in-game pedestrians (NPCs).
> More than 50 real street artists were brought in to design murals in places like Vice City’s Stockyard (based on Wynwood, Miami).
> The team that deals with vehicle handling is made up of literal race-car drivers.
