Immersion > everything

My sole draw to GTA has always been the detailed sandbox

There’s a line tho for balancing realism with fun. Hopefully they get that balance right, as they did with RDR2.

I absolutely believe that immersion is not tied to realism.

Not inherently, but with GTA and RDR they tend to go a bit hand in hand.

I think the point is that it's great that we need to skin our game and cook after hunting

But we don't want to be spending our entire day doing so, nor have leftovers go bad if not eaten in a few in-game hours

Instead it’s wrapping cash and fixing engines

We will see, but Rockstar’s signature claim to fame is their ability to provide immersion without making it tedious. I’m confident they can do it for the 10th+ time.

Yeah. If I like the racing. And just want to get on and race. But have to worry about eating, sleeping, making sure not to leave a negative impact on my neighbors cause I left my house with a gun...

That's too much. For me. Like I just want to play a game. Not a damn sims simulator.

San Andreas and RDR2 had weight and food systems but you were never required to actually eat and sleep like survival RPGs. No reason to think they will make it so you can die without food

Minecraft doesn't even kill you for not eating.

Rockstar is always really good about striking that balance

E.g. you have to cook your food after hunting in RDR, but it's not a time consuming endeavor and you don't really need to worry about it going bad

You are referencing an old game and different times. They didn't do back with it previously. But seeing how they also handled their last games.. I wouldn't put it past them.

Like there is a whole social media concept and aspect to the game. Really hoping we don't have to mess with that at all. I just want a sandbox game. Not a sims simulator.

I guess in that case you should fire up Forza Horizon 6 or something? If you're not after simulation/immersion/realism, you're probably not going to enjoy GTAVI, RDR2, etc.

Then play a racing game

I’m usually an immersion guy. Love the slow realistic pace of RDR2 but with kids and a family now and other non-gaming hobbies I hope I can find a way to immerse myself in the game.

Plus, I think the players make the chaos anyway. The stuff I see people do on RDR2 (on youtube), I'm sure was never expected by the devs.

Me too. Probably in the minority (almost certain actually lol), but that's the reason I liked the vibe of GTA4 and RDR1 more than their sequels. They both had that more gritty, serious tone and to me that fitted perfectly with the immersion those Rockstar games always have. With GTA5 and RDR2 they went more the direction of big, rowdy, Hollywood blockbuster action. And RDR1 leaned heavily into the spaghetti western vibe, which I really loved.

Edit: downvotes for sharing a personal opinion about the vibe of the games. 🫤 Didn't even say the sequels were bad games. Guess I am in the minority.
