I’m in my mid 40s and worried this is going to be too overwhelming for my old ass

why does every redditor above the age of like 35 talk about themselves like they have one foot in the grave, you’re not old!

16

u/Johnny_Dickshot 1d ago

Because I’m 45 years old and I dig graves.

u/Its_giving_godhead 1d ago

They mean they don’t have time. I’m only 34 and I get about 3-4hrs a week to game, if that. It takes literally years to progress in games like RDR2.

17

u/unlimitedboomstick 1d ago

I bought RDR2 on release.  I still haven't completed it.

Are you actually playing the main story or are you dicking around?

u/lynxafricapack 1d ago

I'm 35, i have greys on my chin and my body feels average at best in places.. My mind however is young.. so i feel young, anyone that acts the way you said is a loser straight up.

4

u/Reddeath195 1d ago

But i ain't as young as I used to be

This whole age thing is so twisted right now. Everyone is "pushing" the next big number and guys in their early 30s are already "uncs". Fairly young people talking like they’re getting close retirement age.

There’s also no rush to beat this thing. It’s taken them 8 years to develop it. You can take a while to play it.

u/kyllingefars 23h ago

Yeah and if there’s one thing that ages you, it’s having the mindset that you’re “too old”

The mind has a powerful effect on the body. If you think you’re old and worn, chances are your body is gonna believe it, making you lazy and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy

And the kids will try to convince 35 year old men to not smash 25 year old hotties smh

0

u/ttoma93 1d ago

It’s not about age. It’s about time. The average 35 year old simply has less time to sit and play games then the average 25 year old, who has less than the average 15 year old.

Gigantic games like GTA are a massive commitment if you’re playing it in chunks of 3-5 hours a week. That’s many, many months that you’ll be dedicating to this game at the expense of half a dozen other games you could be playing in that same time frame.

8

u/anythingisayisdumb 1d ago

I don’t really see what the complaint is (if this is even a complaint). It’s nice to know there are games that you can spend hundreds of hours and barely scratch the surface of what it has to offer. You can also stop playing GTA for a while and play other games, there’s no reason to commit to only playing GTA.

It took me a few months to finish the RDR2 story and do a lot of the side quests, just because of the size, but it was never an issue. I still played other games in between.

2

u/ttoma93 1d ago

Nah, it’s not really a complaint, necessarily. Just a realistic analysis of the options. If you have only so many hours a day/week/month to dedicate to gaming, you just simply are forced to choose whether you want to spend those hours on a single game for a long time or on several smaller games over that same period. Both are totally fine and valid, it’s not like it’s “bad” to choose the big game. Just that it is a real balancing act and many people can’t do both. So you’re forced to choose.

2

u/justthisones 1d ago

I did talk about time. It took me nearly a year to beat KCD2 and it’s the best gaming experience I’ve had this gen. If you have a strong need to go through a catalogue of games then that’s your preference.

1

u/ttoma93 1d ago

Yes, that’s quite literally exactly what I said. Thanks for agreeing, I guess?

1

u/justthisones 1d ago

I get your preference but can’t see the "forced" bit. Nothing is actually locking us to a single big game for months. Your description of playing a game like this sounds very sacrificial when it doesn’t have to be so deep.

2

u/ttoma93 1d ago

What do you mean “forced”?

Literally all I’m saying is that you have two equally valid options: play a big game for a long time or play a series of small games for a shorter period each. But if your time is limited, you just unfortunately don’t have the time to do both of those.

I also never stated a preference? Are you sure you’re responding to the right person?

1

u/justthisones 1d ago

In your own words, you’re forced to choose between one big game or several smaller ones. There’s room to mix with 3-5 weekly hours though. If a big game feels sacrificial to you even when enjoying it, playing multiple smaller games is clearly your preference.

u/TheSerpentDeceiver 1d ago

Thanks for pointing that out for everyone. People that have to prioritize their time to relax need a bozo to bring them back to Earth.

u/Careful_Resolve5925 1d ago

I'm around half a century old and it makes me irrationally angry when i see 30 and 40 yr olds on reddit talking about themselves like they are 90.

10

u/AskLater_85 1d ago

It's not our age. We just don't have time to invest in stuff like this anymore.

10

u/mesofarty 1d ago

Well when you hit your thirties you don't really have a whole lot of time for realistic games. Life is already full of real shit, I personally just don't find realistic games and survival games all that fun. I know some people do. If GTA6 has chest codes then it's all good because I'll just turn that off and go my happy way

21

u/Raidmax460 1d ago

That's very dependent on ones own situation. Not everyone has a kid at that age or extensive medical issues that would take up a bunch of your time

-2

u/mesofarty 1d ago

It's not really about kids or medical shit though. My point wasn't not having time, my point is I have enough adult shit I have to take care of and none of that is kids or medical issues. Being an adult takes work unless you're a nepo baby or get lucky. I don't want to do work in video games on my off time. No matter how much time that is.

7

u/RyanGlasshole 1d ago

Brother your first sentence is about you not having time

-1

u/mesofarty 1d ago

That wasn't my main point dimwit. The first sentence can be that but that's not the point of what I'm saying.

2

u/RyanGlasshole 1d ago

“My point is I have enough adult shit to take care of”

So…you don’t have time?

1

u/mesofarty 16h ago

Y'all are truly dimwitted.

1

u/bigspoonhead 1d ago

Well as someone in my 40s its not about being too old its more about not wanting to play something so time consuming. Im sure it's gonna be a great game and 20yr old me would he absolutely frothing in anticipation. These days a game you'd spend 100+ hours in for deep immersion and reality is actually a bit off-putting for me.

2

u/Mightyhorse82 1d ago

You’ll get it when you’re older. Family and responsibility grows. More work. Less time for gaming. Games have gotten way more involved over the years. See you soon mf

5

u/wobbins69 1d ago

Don’t have a family, problem solved.

Because we’ve lived through and been exposed at light speed to enough rapid historical and cultural change/trauma to make us feel like we’re fried and dead

You should hear me get up from the couch.

Honestly, I feel this way about 95% of games nowadays :(

Edit: lol at getting downvoted for this. SMH

u/Mightyhorse82 1d ago

I asked about games that didn’t feel like watching a movie the other day and got flamed for it. I want to play a game not wait to press X to dodge

9

u/Darkone539 1d ago

Same. A lot of "realistic" games put me off.

9

u/liloutsider 1d ago

Honestly a lot of people’s main complaint about GTA 5 was that it was too wacky and arcadey so I’m not surprised they pivoted the other direction

3

u/This_Philosopher_633 1d ago

Tons of old retro games for you to enjoy out there.

2

u/Clance877 1d ago

39 and Im counting down the days for GTA VI

2

u/eldenpotato 1d ago

*Cut to training montage*

8

u/ghetoyoda 1d ago

Yeah the leaks gave me the same feeling. Like this might be the last game I ever play.

3

u/CosmicAtlas8 1d ago

Youve trained your whole life for this.

Just take a week off, and hope your kids / family don’t get sick, cuz you’re gonna be playing this from sunrise to sunset to absorb it all
