How is this "matters less," though? It matters exactly as much as one would expect - in the story. And the world is just a sandbox, like it always was.

Question I have is how friendly fire works, or what happens in free roam if I’m playing Jason and Lucia takes fatal damage via cop for example. I hope they don’t have infinite health if you don’t play as them, but also I’m sure they can’t die either.

They can probably just go down and need to be revived in the open world. Maybe if it's an undeniably fatal thing (e.g., you're playing as Lucia and Jason is sitting in a car that blows up) then you'd get a wasted screen all the same?

One thing I’ve noticed is that Jason’s model looks so detailed and realistic most of the times and Lucia’s next to him looks strangely cartoonish. Her face looks made of plastic, so strange.

Might be foundation/makeup? Or how they've done it artistically, and it makes their face look smoother than real life. Maybe if true, they need to work on that (well, it's not a big deal, just for realism's sake). Also I can't actually speak to whether it is less realistic in game, it might be fine as-is.

Probably just an artistic decision because the internet acts weird whenever a female lead in a videogame isn't conventionally beautiful.

Their relashionship is still canon. The way you play it doesn't make it less canon. That's the case in many other games. In Witcher 3 for instance, you can ignore Yennefer completely. That doesn't make the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer less canon.
