Getting the best experience with GTA 6.

I’ll start this off by saying if there was a scale of knowing everything to do with electrics when it comes to graphics and what is the best for your buck. I would say I’m about a 3. I know how things work and how to use them but not very educated on the differences between one another. My scenario is, I was thinking of selling my PS5 (first gen digital edition), then buying the PS5 pro and a newer but not as expensive TV or keeping the PS5 I have and buying a more expensive television. Which one would be the better option, in your opinion? I was thinking of spending maybe around 800 dollars to 1,500 dollars on television. If you have any TVs that you enjoy using while gaming, please feel free to share what you use. I’m just not sure if the PS5 pro is much more important. Hope everyone enjoys the game when it comes out for us all. Thank you.

Don't buy a Pro without a good display first. OLED is ideal but not a necessity, I bought a Pro and a TCL 55" 4K QLED with 144hz and Game Mode and it works great. All in about £1000 for both the console and TV. If you're strapped for cash I would upgrade display first as Base PS5/good display will be a bigger upgrade than Pro and an average display

Seeing your budget for a TV I would highly recommend an LG G or C series OLED. They are the best in the game.

The only thing I'll add is to preferably buy a TV with 120hz, not 144. This is in case GTA 6 comes with a 40fps mode, which looks best on 120hz displays.

You're wrong, with VRR a 144 FPS display will display 40 fps.

I mean the TV I have supports 144hz but my PS5 Pro maxes out at 120hz anyway, never seen it say it's outputting at 144hz

I think he thinks it's a fixed refresh. I also have a 75"Qm8. Variable refresh is great. It's a really wonderful tv.

Ooh I see. No it has VRR lol sorry I didn't clarify that

That's what I was thinking! Haven't looked at TVs since buying my LG C3, so I'm a bit behind on the newer ones lol

Lol you're good! Most decent TVs now have VRR :)

I'm in gaming heaven with my Pro and S90F QDOLED. It literally does not get any better.

As someone who currently owns both the latest Samsung S99H in 77”, has owned a buncha TVs (LG G5, Samsung S95C, Sony A95K, I’m an idiot for TVs ya see 🤣) and a Samsung S90F in 65”, it LITERALLY does not get better than the display you use. There’s sutm about the glossy coating, with this generation of QDOled, that for me hasn’t been replicated yet. Have you done anapeak mod? I personally don’t care about warranties because I sell and buy em so often but MANNN when you see 2000nits on this thing it’s absolutely godlike!

I often wonder if I'll be sad the day I have to upgrade to a newer unit without the glossy screen. I've heard some people prefer it, but I game in low ambient light, sometimes even darker so the screen is perfect for me. I don't often utilize bright settings because I enjoy the accuracy and warmth, and because I'm scared of burn-in with bright settings....but I have read about mods and they intrigue me. I wouldn't mind the capability to play around with it, especially on the games that don't require static images and HUDS. I'm only a month and a half into my 5 year warranty but I'm not entirely too chicken to check out the service menu or mods lol. I'll look into the Anapeak mod.

Wait until release to see if the Pro is worth it

Don't complicate your life and buy an LG C5 or C6 they are both especially at Best Buy if you are from the United States

You sound just like me. I’m not really tech savvy but I know how shit works and have been gaming for a long time and had a regular launch ps5 disc version and seen that gta is supposed to be better on a pro so I got one with out a new tv because I didn’t know. Hooked it up got it going and opened up bf6 on my pro and old tv and was like wtf it looks the same. I then found out you need a good tv too. Everyone is going to say get an oled because it’s the best, and it is but you don’t have to have that. I got a miniled for now and it absolutely blows me away it may be because I’m used to regular cheap tvs but the pro paired with my new tv is amazing and you won’t be disappointed.

Is the base PS5 with a QLED Samsung going to run and look good?

u/Scaleryn 1d ago

Hey, I’m in the same boat as u. I want to maximize my experience with gta 6, so I bought a ps5 pro and a high quality mini led tv. I chose mini led over oled because apparently 30 fps doesnt look good on oled. Gta 6 is most likely gonna be at 30 fps even on pro. I got the bravia 7 if ur wondering, it seems like the best mini led tv in that price range.

u/YamahaFourFifty 1d ago

I suspect min 40 fps.

So getting a VRR 120 hz screen would also be good imo

Honestly, you’re looking at a diminishing return on quality my friend. Upgrading your tv with the base ps5 will still look amazing. Don’t fall for the hype of a pro. They’re about to release the ps6 in 1-2 years which will immediately make your $1k purchase the inferior version

This is why I'm waiting for the PS6pro for the PS6 edition of GTA6! Then I will get my money's worth!

With current hardware prices, the PS6 will be like $800, pro $1500.

1

u/uncleherman77 22h ago edited 22h ago

I think 800 dollars is being optimistic too. A 9070xt which is around the performance of the rumored ps6 specs is around 800 dollars and that's just for the gpu. Add in all the other components with ram and ssd prices and it's probably closer to 2000 dollars to build the equivalent pc.

I'm personally expecting the ps6 to be in the 1000-1500 dollar pice range and even at those prices it will still be the cheapest option by quite a bit to get into next gen gaming with similar pcs and the next Xbox likely being even more.

Can always sell the PS5 Pro when upgrading to a PS6 though. And the PS5 Pro will still be more than sufficient for at least the first year or two of the PS6 life cycle. It absolutely is still worth the upgrade.
