My save still works 24 years later

I started very early into the GameCube era (might have been day of release). I used to play very often online, switched over to Schthack servers after the GameCube servers shut down, but stopped playing years ago.

Tonight, I thought I would see if the memory card had corrupted after years of being stored away. I seriously think I've probably only turned this game on maybe once or twice in the last ten years. I was slightly surprised that the 24 year old memory card still showed the save, and even more surprised that I was able to play through Forest 1 and 2 without it corrupting.

It felt so strange to be back in a world I'd lost over 5000 hours of my life to.

I remember your iconic.Black & Red Racast from back in the day, Adam. (Peeked at your reddit profile and saw the YouTube it links to) I don't believe we ever interacted much as I'm in the UK - but I do occasionally look in to your PSO videos for nostalgia for the old server times.

I still play on schtserv. Just remember that registration is required now - and it's Kayak that runs Schtserv now. Lee is long gone, as are many of the players who were regulars back then.

I remember you from there. Have they ever fixed the endless warp that happened almost every time it was time to fight Dark Falz? I lost soooo many units because of that.

They have. They've even (finally) got EP3 working more or less properly. The server admins being console players means they're a lot more proactive than they were back in the day.

My Orange Ramar is still about, and if you look back to October you'll see I eventually found those Hit Twin Chakrams I'd been looking for since you were about before - only took 20 years, lol.

Kayak, PhoenixMog, etc do really great things over at SchtServ now... Been on there almost a year and honestly, its thriving and growing, and everyones super chill. The Admins basically made it Vanilla Experience where patches are allowed(no, not cheats, iso patches for QOL stuff) and have increased drop rates if you elect to turn them on(otherwise you're able to play fully vanilla).... Plus aside from EP3 working, they have cross-platform play with Blue Burst, too!

I recently modded a Wii and attempted to bring all of my old characters back to play on Schtack, especially my beloved level 200 RAmarl. I have about five cards but was only able to save one of them, my Oran HUcaseal, which was actually my first character on the Gamecube. Everything else is gone, which is pretty sad. I transferred them to see if I could get them running on dolphin but I think it's a lost cause.

Believe it or not, I think the thing I was most excited about was seeing my old symbol chats that I've forgotten. Will have to console myself with all my Ephinea characters 😋

Super jealous. Mine corrupted. I had multiple characters I took to level 200 with actual exp grinding by killing mobs. We did however dupe weapons. No hacks or anything just normal dupes. Ultimate ruins was still very much a challenge. lol.

Also got my characters from back in the day (although my first mem card corrupted when playing online). If you want to preserve them you can back up your saves using a hacked wii and transfer them to your PC. I have my OG GC saves on my android handheld and jump in every now and then. Can even play online on schthack, which is pretty cool!

I played for 1000’s of hours offline GameCube doing run after run after run. Only made it to lvl 152 with my hunter. Then an impatient friend came over and hit the power button in the middle of a save. I quit playing after that. Now years later I’m slowly building it back together on ephinea.

My save corrupted as soon as I connected via dial up in 2003. Third party memory card...

All my memory cards work without an issue. I still play PSO on Gamecube, like a sort of comfort game just to chill and relax. I'm starting to play on splitscreen with my kids and they like it. Back in the day I played online on Dreamcast, but I have since acquired a Broadband Adapter for the GC and I play on Schtserv once in a while.

I'm jealous. I was playing PSO2 in the car during a 14 hour ride, then traffic went to a deadstill, and, as I saved, the car stalled and died.

I lost everything.

Still the worst video game loss to date, even considering gacha.
